1. Knew I should have taken time out to look at this post yesterday, that Buttercream SR5 is lovely, shame it sold so fast
2. Has it got a Maple or Rosewood fingerboard? I'd also be keen to know the weight. R.
3. As suggested the 'floating Thumb' could work for you, it's takes a bit of practice but I use it all the time now, my thumb is at right angles to the strings and is used as part of my muting.
4. Here's a couple of pictures of the progress on the body finish, it still needs polishing etc. I actually preferred it before the burst was added but because the top veneer has been patched in places and the edges aren't pretty it had to be done to hide the imperfections (see first post for explanation) I realise it's 'Marmite' look but I really like it

New Zoom B3

I use my B3 connected to my computer then a hi-fi for practice and recording and love it, I have the 160 compessor on all the time, for me it seems the easiest to get a decent sound from, I've also used it at band reheasals and it was as good as many pedals, I now have a lovely Diamond BCP-1 and that knocks spots off any of the B3 sims but then it should as it's dearer then the Zoom and only does one trick.
6. Point well made MrTaff, I hadn't thought of it like that. Oh and I couldn't play that fast in any tuning/position Maybe look at a Lakland as they all have a 35" scale which might help stop any flapping of the B string.
7. Maybe look at basses with longer then 34" scale for the extra tension it provides. Ideally just adjust your playing to a standard tuned 5'er as all the notes are there except the low Bb
8. Going in the recycling bin tonight - anyone?
9. £18 posted but if there's no interest I'll take them to the charity shop.
10. Sound interesting, I just looked at a MM SR 5 bridge and they don't have guides but then it is a much sturdier bridge.
11. I have a bog standard OLP 5 string that I love playing, great bass for what I paid for it secondhand, I quite like it's passive tone and the fact that the VVT means you can mix the coils, I did consider changing the pick-up. Interesting project, I look forward to hearing your pre amp sound clips. What sort of bridge will you be making?
12. Pants! that's ruined my weekend I think I'll watch the Blues Brothers tonight.
13. Nice work on the neck, plus you can see the beautiful top wood of the body much clearer in this pic.

Daveybass

I bought a tc electronic tuner from Dave, it arrived the next day and is in perfect condition
15. Thanks Eude, I might just do that Good luck with the move.
16. Coming along nicely, look forward to seeing more. I think I need to try out a 33" scale 5 string.
17.
I've specced a 33" scale on my ACG which is due in the next month or so, on the basis that I've only got small hands for a bass player. I do sometimes wonder what difference it's really going to make though. One of my favourite basses that has passed through my hands in recent times was a Yammie TRB1004 - that had a 35" scale and I'm not sure I ever really noticed!
Is that a 4 or 5 string you have ordered?
I don't think you'll be dissapointed with either (the scale length OR the ACG). When you get to our age...comfort always comes first!!
I'll be trying to get the weight down on my next build, I'm getting too old for heavy basses.
18. Just back from meeting up with Andy and purchasing his Pedaltrain Mini, it's in great condition and Andy is a really nice guy to deal will - Thanks
