1. Guitar Village has the Sonic at £2379 I'd have to add a white pick guard and covers!
2. AFAIK they will slot in fine, you'll have to drill out the mounting screws, that's all.
3.
I recently modded my Squier VM Fretless. Tort PG, Gotoh 301, fake grounding strip, pull-bar, Jazz Bass style knobs, neck pup cover, electrics replaced with CTS & Switchcraft units, replaced the original cap with an old PIO .05 cap off a 50's Telecaster, Series/Parallel switching and I had the fretboard planed as well. The bass cost me around £250 a couple of years ago and the modifications and upgrades came to more than £100 so in essence I've paid over £350 for a VM fretless. Personally I think it was worth it because it looks and sounds so much better than it did originally. (Not that it was a bad bass to start with ) Here's a before/after comparison:
That's it! Super looking Jazz bass... I'd put some vintage style machines on there, just my personal preference. Here's some on a 60s CV Precision...
4. Heh... I bought a 2002 Mexi std off the bay blind, I was expecting a POS... turned out super! I guess I was lucky?
5. Well depending on condition I would expect to pay £900 - £1200 tops. Lower than that, you may be on to a bargain.
6. Yes... I can vouch for the bakelite knobs, not plastic. I have them on the original control plate.
7. heh... it's in totally un-original condition.
8. Completely over the top price wise... Knobs are not original... his prices are a bit on the high side, if you look at the 73 P Bass. You can have my 62 Jazz for £10,000, how's that?
9. That's a lovely P Bass you've made there thebrig!
10. Sonic blue is my fave fender colour... up to you of course!
11.
This. Sooo many times I've been to gigs where the bass is just lost in an overly loud kick drum and the bassist could've been playing a tea chest with a piece of string and a broom handle for all the care the FOH guy takes.
Yes... half an hour to soundcheck the kit, and three mins on the rest of the backline... usually.
12. God I miss my Ray!... That sounded like a Ray every time!
13. Remove the frets and drop in a J-Reto... absolutely awesome for drum&bass...! My Jazz was a case inhabitant for many years until I did that to it, now I can't put it down.
14. IMO they look bloody horrible... I had a Grabber once... it was sh-ite.
15. Mrs B... Bless her...
16. Piccy please Mr truck!
17.
I agree...
That's it... right there... superb. Why can't they do that?
18. It brings tears to my eyes!... my 'always wanted' bass. That's why I saved that photo. I play a 62 Jazz and it's had so many mods now, over the years, that I wished I'd kept it in original condition. I plan on doing something similar to a Squier CV Jazz one day. Great stuff... look after it and play it.
19. Yes... DON"T mod it any further... what a superb replica!
20. Nice Dave... yours?
21. Crikey David... superb job. Love the dots, sonic blue is my all time fave fender colour, jazz basses are my all time fave basses. Loose the star. Get some covers on it, lookie here... Tokai's are superb instruments, I'm always on the lookout for one myself. If it was mine I'd have to de-fret it and drop in a J-Retro! Great Job.
22. Blocks on a P? in the seventies? I don't think so.
23. Well... I'm not so sure now. IMO the P should have a split pup in the regular position, also chrome knobs. The J should have a jazz pup in the bridge position. Just my 2p.
24. Lovely... I just can't do the vibrato!
