1.
Someone get him a Chapman Stick, for god's sake!!
A fretless stick? He does have a few basses, including a 10 string (though it's a 5x2) and a 6. Lists them and shows the tunings he uses (14 on "The Enormous Room" alone!!!) on this page of his website.
2. Shergold Marathon - starting bid £1 and BIN of £399. Seems high to me but what do I know
3.
I would probably go for the worlds most expensive bass. The $250,000 bass guitar, The Ritter Royal Flora Aurum, ...
From the website it says it's "on hold". So you decided to put a deposit on it after all? And for me it would be a Zon Hyperbass (as long as it comes with lessons from Manring)
4.
+ 1 all the way. Although this guy Zander is quite obviously heavily influenced by Manring.
Thanks for that link - like his work, even with (or should that be because of) the influences. Also interesting to hear the Zon VB. Just had a look at the Zon website and yes they are expensive, but a lot less than a hyperbass. Also note he is from the UK - is he on BC?
5. There is an article on baritone guitars (and it mentions the Glen Campbell solo) in the latest Guitar and Bass Magazine for those that get it (or stand in WHS to read the odd piece).
6. +1 Love his stuff - and on youtube there are some great vids of him doing a house concert. Have a look at this one and you should be able to get the associated ones from there. Would have loved to have seen him with Michael Hedges if they had been able to continue working together. Must search youtube for them, hadn't thought of that before. Edit: This video explaining the bass and his style is interesting as well.
7.
Or in fact, exactly the same! Think *rounding errors*...
Doh - yes - you would have thought someone who has a maths degree would have seen that one (it was some time ago your honour!)
8.
But only if you were using square speakers. For some reason, the number 3.1416 keeps flashing across my brain ...
I thought that and checked - the ratio of the areas is more or less the same square or round
9.
Yeah I've been watching this since about 9:30 Working till 8:30pm on a Friday night, what a f***ing legend I am!! (or a mug )
It's on again at 12:40 and 3:10 AM if you want to see the start
10.
Also, is there any way of displaying more than about 20/25 posts per page? I guess most people are on broadband now so 50 or even 100 wouldn't really cause a connection issue.
Options>Board Settings allows you to set the number of posts a page up to 40 if that helps.
11. Thanks for the tips Major and fatgoogle. I will let you know how I get on with the one I linked to - order now sent
12. Much appreciated Major - detailed reply as yours always seem to be. I have been looking on ebay and this seems to tick a lot of the boxes so I think I will give this one a try. At that price it isn't too much of a risk
13. Now I have nothing in particular against Warwicks (my wife is learning on the Rockbass in my sig), and I don't dislike the Katana... ... but does anyone else see where this guy might have been coming from?
14. That's the one problem with Basschat. You find all these people that would be really great to play in a band with, and they all play bass! As has been said though, don't sell your gear when down - I made that mistake a while ago and took a long time to come back to it.
15. Quick question. Have a Stagg EUB which I am starting to get used to (walked about three inches of that 10,000 mile journey!). I now want to get a bow. As the Stagg is 3/4 size should I go for the same in a bow or would a 4/4 be ok?
16.
Ok! The original ... [snip informative post] ...and data! Cheers! Nick
Looking at the picture you use as your av don't they have cheaper fencing in your neck of the woods?
17. Seems to have added a bit to the link for some reason - try this one.
18. Thanks for that - loved his sound. Just need to work out how to get it now...and learn to play like that... and get another string.......
19. The maker is Michel Fournelle - website here
20. Agree it has bits of Zon, Pedulla and Veillette in there but pretty sure it isn't any of them. Firstly though, the original quote asks about Remy Beauchamp. Isn't this Dominique "Forest" Lapointe? That's what the video suggests and from the date that would fit. From another thread I found there was a link to this page, where you can download three short hi-res videos (click on the pictures to download) plugging the DVD. Some slightly better closeups on that but only fleetingly. The OP on the thread that gave the link to the videos also said that Lapointe was his bass teacher at the time, so he may know
21. I guess it's this one. Saw it earlier and thought the same
22. Single Coil Precision Bass
23. Well it gave me something to do while I drank my wine It's a Dean Tropical - and the pics here may be useful.
