1. I work with a fellow BCer who has a Shine and rates it - only 4 string though. What part of the country are you in? There is a store in Brighton (not GAK though they may) that stocks Shine instruments.
2. Not that I have used a Peterson, but if you have an iPhone there is a Strobosoft app available - it's on the AppStore at £5.99
3.
I am a fan of the GK MB150, I like the sound and they are very portable and relativley affordable, that said after carrying that and a DB on London transport I did wonder if there was anything as good but lighter still and have orderd a Genz Benz 10T combo, there are a lot of DB players saying a lot of good things about these, and this is the first time I have ever bought gear untried, so as soon as I have given it a good spin I'll let you know, if you hunt around you can grab one at a very good price.
Look forward to hearing what you think about that - would definitely be a suitable size
4. I know what you mean - I wondered about the logo. It looks as though Muse make a few versions of this - here is an Alden Cleopatra and again the logo is similar but not identical.
5. How about a Muse Cleopatra?
6. Looks something like an Ibanez Artcore but not sure...
7. Keep looking at this and wishing you could stretch the neck by an inch... but I keep looking anyway
8. There's one on the website that fits the description - if it is that one it is a very nice looking instrument
9. It's also worth having a look at the basses for sale section here - there are some good budget instruments available at very good prices. Edit: As max mentioned Squier above there is a Walnut Squier Jazz going at the moment and in a similar price range.
10. Thanks nig - I shall order one tomorrow
11. My wife has just taken up the bass and she is starting to develop GAS already I was thinking of getting her a Tascam MP-BT1 so she could sit and play along to slowed down tracks etc. After reading some of the threads on here I am now considering the Boss Micro BR instead as it has some extra useful features (not that I would make use of it of course...). The one thing I am not sure about is whether you can store MP3s on the Boss directly or whether you plug an MP3 player into it. If it does then I think it is no contest.
12.
It's the Encore 200 bass-specific one I was after. I've just ordered one from the Bass Merchant-£100. Should be here tomorrow, I'm told.
Sounds good - will be interested to know how you get on with it.
13.
I believe Hagstrom are re-issuing their 8 string, as used by Hendrix amongst others
Yes - reviewed in the May issue of BGM (the one with Flea on the cover)
14. Welcome to the low end Worth looking round the basses for sale threads as well - some bargains to be had at all levels
15.
I second that about 'New World' - it's pretty much the only thing I have been listening to recently and I am seeing JTQ at Havant in July.
Is that at Havant Arts Centre? If so it's 20th June - and thanks for mentioning it or I might have missed that one
16. Bump - excellent price compared to ebay Almost worth buying to try a defret
17.
Can you use them on bass? I've never seen it before.
Have a look at youtube and search for ebow bass. There is an amazing one with Michael Manring there somewhere but I can't see it atm.
18.
Where did you get it from? I'm after one too and I can't seem to find one online in the UK.
Amazon have a four guitar one for £130 here
19. Anyone tried the Ashdown Freebass? The sales pitch suggests it keeps the lower frequencies - but then it would wouldn't it... Edit: Just read the thread on this - time to think again then!
20.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful
You must have been there on a good day. I was in there today and all the guy in the bass section seemed to want to do was get back to listening to whatever music he was playing on the computer.
21. Met Nick yesterday to pick up a Genz Benz combo I was buying from him, together with a bass he was passing on from Barrie (molan) to me to save my traveling. Great guy and very helpful.

molan

Just bought an Overwater from Barrie - awesome bass and he is great to deal with (and thanks to Nick for helping out on the collection)
23.
This is my single favourite youtube vid. The first time I heard this piece I nearly wept. Utterly beautiful and my favourite solo bass piece ever. Adhan is well up there too.
My wife played a bass for the first time this evening - I don't think I should let her see this or she might not pick it up again. Come to think of it, I might not pick one up again! Amazing
24. Bought a Rockbass Corvette from Matt - great price and excellent condition. Would happily deal with him again - great to deal with.
