Slightly ahead of the deadline this time round… but still fairly last-minute as I’m away with work over the next couple of days, so it was now or never.
that is sweet Paul , a touch dark maybe, but a good listen and some lovely playing .
2.
Here we go!!
I think that would sound superb if you did play it with the trio Bilbo
Can I just apologise for my entry this month?
Great fun , straight out of the BBC stereophonic workshops
3. Last Saturday I played my first gig with the bitsa I built , it was great , no problems and to be honest because it looked so odd it got more attention than my Spector
here is my main gigging bass - it comes out with the intention of being the back up to my status, but more often than not it's the status which stays in the bag pre-loved squier affinity 140 from t'local music emporium - sounded fine just stock but now it has wizard hammers the status doesnt stand a chance tbh
I don't often get taken aback , but this is just a beautiful looking bass , just stunning .
4.
Sounds like you've been busy Kev! :-)
One tries Mal , but that is just joinery , the bit I can't quite understand yet how you get to know where your fingers are supposed to go , especially when they are up over your left ear and you cant see them , even with a rubber neck wearing bifocals !!
5.
I recently upgraded from an Antoni to a second hand Strunal that I found on eBay. After taking the Strunal to a luthier for a new bridge, soundpost, nut and set up, I'd spent a similar amount to your budget. In my case I'd say that the upgrade was most definitely worthwhile. The Antoni is a great starter bass and definitely served its purpose and got me hooked on Double Bass but I'm not convinced that it would have been worth spending money on trying to improve it. I'm sure if you're patient something will come up that meets your needs and fits your budget!
I have just got my first DB , an Antoni as it happens ............ From Mal While I haven't spent any money on it , I have put a few hours in lowering the action a fair bit , I have small hands you see . I am now in a position to learn how to play it , and it feels great , I might come to the Derby bash just to feel how other guys have them set up , I have only ever held one , and then took my tools to it . I think in my case it was just bite the bullet and find an opportunity to get one, I had been looking for a while and was suitably confused as to what I wanted or needed, I now have something to learn a bit of the craft on and am really looking forward to it .
6. I have a hat Oh , and a DB , I could not believe how big they are , an essential is a decent size space to put the thing in but I am well and truly subscribed in here
7. Just a quick thought , I have a tanglewood that I got in bits as a project and when it all got put together I had an issue thinking the truss rod head was stripped , but after taking it apart again found the the socket was a lot deeper than it first appeared , thus adjustment was perfectly doable .
8. I just did a swap with Mal for a DB of his with a Warwick streamer fret less of mine , great easy deal and easy comms. Many thanks Mal ....... I hadn't realised how big these things are , only just fits in the the car with the 5 people :0

Mark bought my Schroeder 21012L today after meeting up outside the prearranged hotel meeting place . With a fistful of folding and some suitable sideways glances the deal was done and I was left to negotiate a further deal with Malbsss Mark is a great guy to deal with , dead straight and easy to communicate with , I hope this cab cures his GAS ,,,,, for a while at least A quality BCer
10.
Try this for size... Wind In The Wire (54 + 1...)...
It fits very well , I can hear the inspiration building through it really well
11. Many thanks Dad , you are too kind No vocals alas , but Lurksalittle did help with the lyrics So another family effort
12. Well there's no folk in here , but you are welcome to tell me what you think it is https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/tweet I hope you enjoy
13. I have got close with mine now , but I have to say , mine is a totally contrived and calculated piece , with a certain randomness , but no improv at all , folk , Hmmmm, no , no Hmmm , no, club style it is then
14.
I know what I want to do but will need to find some other musicians to make it happen as I cannot play any of the instruments involved to the required level. Mmmmm?
That sounds very like my monthly dilemna
15.
Leftfield is good!
, Yup , far too much reverb in there
16. I have an idea for this now , it is a touch left field maybe , and could be a lot of work , but I can make a start
17. Well done Paul, back on top again !! I voted for Bilbos this time as it appeared to bring me on a journey through the story , and I think I liked it just a touch more than the others Seriously guys , great work all round , and I hope to back in the pack this month
18. Ah yes , but for those in the know , I have reproduced the lyrics of the title sequence , and being a US show it just uses different terminology ( and holiday doesn't rhyme with generation ) . You can still see a bit of the original colour where the truss adjustment is, I will paint that out in due course ,but it plays really well Alan, I will try it at rehearsal tonight to see if it fits with the band image
19.
Quite the opposite with me My guitarists are always looking to me to help them with chords and song arrangements. They nick named me the "Chordmaster" as I always seem to know what chords go where and ask me for advice.
A bit like this for me too , as it appears that I am the one who actually listens/studies/learns the new tunes proposed before rehearsals , but that is another kettle of fish entirely .
20. There's 104 days of summer vacation, then school comes along just to end it So the annual problem for our generation, Is finding a good way to spend it. Like maybe... Building a rocket , Or fighting a mummy Or climbing up the Eiffel Tower …........... Or even building a Bass-inator , Arent you a little young to be building a Bass-inator ? Yes, yes I am . Well that was unexpected, well, when I say unexpected I mean.........Curse you Perry the platypus , the end of another fine evil plan …. M-U-M..... Phineas and Ferb are building a Bass-inator. Ah well , just a bitsa fun , just waiting for the knobs and a bit of plastic to tidy up the around the pickups , but it works OK , I may redo the headstock as I have overdone the lacquer, and If I do another I might get a proper sprayer to do the finish for me , it is still not perfect , but it turned out reasonably well .
21. A tie as it currently stands , this is a close run thing , every last vote will make a difference
22. I have for sale my trusty Schroeder 21012L . This is a fantatsic cab and has given me faultless service since I bought it 5 years ago. It was bought from Geoffbassist on here with its pedigree available to see on the sale thread I got it from http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 2x10 forward firing and 1x12 angled with an adjustable tweeter, it is the lighter model around 26Kgs as far as I can tell , though I have not weighed it , it is certaianly very handleable. Comes complete with padded cover and the control knob for the tweeter seperate (as it was when I picked it up) There are 1 or 2 scuffs on the cover and the cab corner protectors but apart from that it is in very good condition 4Ohm and 1000watts it will handle just about anything you throw at it and will cut through in a live situation with ease. I have bought a TC Electronics rig which is slightly more versatile for the rooms we end up playing in now and gives me a tiny footprint, and while I would love to keep the Schroeder , it really has to go . I was thinking of holding on to it but have seen recently that there is still a fair bit of love for Schroeder cabs so I thought I would help out out by sharing that love I would prefer collection / meet up for the deal but could also get hold of some packaging should anyone wish to organise a carrier. Thats it I suppose , I believe the price realistic for the quality of the cab as it still has plenty of quality service to offer . Many thanks
23. I saw a band at Disney Paris the other week , They were a proper band, soundman , lights etc, now I know Disney can afford it, but these guys played to 10 people , even when 93,000 had been at the park that day , I saw some great bands at Butlins Bognor a few years ago , but again, playing to a handful of punters , shame really
