1. we did a show with a few other bands and a great singer who was in the west end at one point , it was a fundraiser with about 400 people , they wanted to use our PA but we declined and suggested they hire a PA in , it was a bit late but they got one set-up , the biggest issue was that the only guy they had to run it had the 2-bob bits , what a night that was , I ended up playing tracks for the singer after a manic 20 second run through of the desk , while he went of for a 20 minute run through of a different type
2. brilliant stuff guys , a very difficult choice again but I have made one , I am itching to get started again next month now !!
3. Just bought an onboard preamp from Paul , a very easy and straight forward purchase , many thanks
4. we played out a pub 'fun day' last night , in the field behind the pub in a marque. It was great fun and we got quite a decent sound by all counts 2 new ones went down really well Blondie -Hanging on the telephone, and the killers -when you were young.. It stayed relatively dry for the gig but it hammered down on the load out , good job we have covers for all the cabs! The ground was awful and we had no stage, just set up in the corner of the tent on the grass, though we had enough mats and covers to keep the kit clean from the floor , tidying the cable bag this morning sees the long run stuff a bit muddy , A good night though and the promise of a return
5. I have got very little chance this month , but September will see me back in the fold I am sure , I will hang fire from listening to the input so far , just in case I find the time and the room . The lad has found gainful employment and will move all his gear out next weekend ,so all systems could be go again then !!
6.
It hadn't occurred to me, to use them like that
Nor me ! And it leaves the strap free to use on guitars that don't have the locks on , I may well try that method
7. I have a tenuous claim to fame with regard to Keith Hopwood , an original hermit, my lad is very good friends with his lad and has worked on various music and film projects with him
8.
Obviously people have better things to do and see there. I doubt the band would mind much...they know the score, took the gig and are getting paid. I'd bet it was a residency.
I guess so , it just seemed a bit mad to have such a decent set up and an empty bar , especially if it was like that most nights
9. They were in the country bar in disney village, a great venue , quality sound and lights, it had everything you would expect, except people !
10.
I guess those 93,000 people yesterday and 50,000 people today didn't go there to listen to a blues/country/softish rock covers outfit. Maybe if they dressed up as a mouse . . . . .
I think they did all dress up as mice , maybe the band should have as well Having stayed for the second set , the band were good , little raport maybe , a touch bland with the song choices , but deserved better than they got , I am sure they were a pro act though and the €€ would have been enough to settle their bar tab
11. Well I popped out to see the Kareoke and all the singing appears to be foreign , and so do the subtitles , je ne comprends pas
12. I have just sat through a really good first set of a blues/country/softish rock covers outfit who are really good , there is me and 8 others in the bar , now if we were in the horse & jockey or even the dog & duck there would be no issue , but with 50,000 people passing through the neighbourhood today , 93,000 yesterday, and a constant throng outside the door, 200 people sat listening to the drivel of a karaoke 150 yards away , the management of this place needs sacking ..... Or Maybe the wrong sort of adults go to Disneyland
13.
Not Greek mythology, but you're not far off. It's one of the illustrations for Oscar Wilde's play "Salomé", by Aubrey Beardsley. This is the last of 13, and is titled "The Climax". The play itself is a version of a biblical story concerning Herod, in which there is an erotic dance performed by his step-daughter (assumed to be Salomé...). He asks her to choose anything as a reward for the dance; she asks for, and gets, the head of John the Baptist on a platter. More here... Salomé... The picture can stand on its own merit as inspiration; the story illustrated is equally legitimate. Hope this helps...
Its a good job i clicked the link or I could have started writing a composition about a dancing Italian sausage
14. DOH , does this mean I have to get a headless bass to compose with, just for the sake of authenticity
15. Well done Dad , an excellent piece no doubt, as indeed were your competitors, so well done all, sorry I could not contribute this time. I will struggle this month as well ,to be honest , commitments being such in the summertime. not exactly making hay , but that sort of thing .
16. Well that one is sorted , I got an email reply by 10.00 this morning asking for my address , they are going to post a correct one out to me . So Ernie is defo on the Ball , well played boys
17.
Only 18 votes so far! Some of us need all the help we can get
one of you has had all the votes I can give
18. I will let you know if/when I get a proper set , I cant seem to get the right feel from the hybrid/custom 105/70/70/50 pack I opened this morning
19. I have already sent an email to EB UK , lets see what they make of it !! I will keep you informed . I had a tail snap on a Roto D string and they sent me a new one straight away , I wonder if Ernie is on the ball
20. I have been very lucky to acquire a set of Ernie Ball regular slinkies from a fellow BCer through the recycling , these are Brand new in a sealed foil pack , virginal to any purchasers grubby mits. These were destined for a project that I am playing with , and a dry run set-up was on the cards , except , on opening them , I opened the 105 E first and strung it on , then the A 85 , I thought it seemed a bit thin , but carried on , then the D then finally the G , I had terrible issues tuning the thing , so I got out the vernier and would you believe the labelled packet with the 85 was indeed a 70 , so bizzarely from a sealed unopened pack of strings it was put together wrongly , so now I need an 85 to suit . I generally use Rotosounds and have never had an issue like this , have I been incredibly unlucky ,or is this a relatively common occurrence ? ps anyone go a spare new EB .085 roundwound spare ,
21. I have had a busy month and we have house guests in my 'studio' space , but I did try a few things ,but couldn't pull anything together , despite having a queue of available vocalists . Maybe that is an issue in itself in that making up a composition is all well and fine if I am going to be the guilty party , but to write parts for others to perform is another step entirely . Being glorious weather means more out and aboutness aswell , Still I will vote ASAP , But august could be also be tricky timewise for me , and then Paul knocks one out in a couple of hours much respect
22. Just got in from a regular pub gig and it was a great one ,we had them bouncing even in the first set , blooded 3 new songs and it was the first work out for my new (used) TC Electronics rig , I was very pleased with what it sounded like and the way it worked for the gig ,, we are back there for a christmas party , so that should be fun , a good night all in , even if it was a touch warm tonight
23. Why didn't you stand at the door giving out flyers to all and sundry
24. That sounds brilliant Paul , what are you thinking of in regard an acoustically treated window ? do you mean curtains .
