The band I play in. Apparently we're sexual deviants...
lurksalot replied to far0n's topic in General Discussion
+1 to this. You are letting your bandmates down..... Now get back out there and start asking random girls for handjobs!
How random do these girls have to be , but while we are chatting , any chance -
it is a simple contract , player provides goods / services for an agreed fee , simple . what any individual gets out of the deal is of no consequence , except to the individual. If at a future point in time you have reason to believe you are worth more , then renegotiate if you can, but it boils down to value and available resources, a bit of a poker game if you let it get that way.

Do you have your own personaity on the bass.?
lurksalot replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Great post PAINY , I think it difficult to pick up personality from a recording , competence maybe , but personality is surely something you get from a person . Individuals show their personality when they play , it maybe one of total concentration, smiling joviality , closed eyed groove , head banging dizziness or even a BigREDX , so we all show our personality when we play , and if we are doing a show , then our personality may even be hidden by our 'persona'. It is an odd concept to me , I am who I am , but if I am playing someone else , then that is who I am trying to be . But as I do mainly covers , I entertain , and if my onstage personality fits the band, the image and the material , the notes I play do not really convey my personality. -
Now that is clever , and beautiful , but is all the re-tuning with the special heads necessary ? Ed to add I watched the previous tube , where he explained the guitar , now that is great , and there was some very interesting stuff in his explanation .... BUT... he spent the entire time fiddling with the tuning and it really started to bore the pants off me . so is this a case of art or entertaninment etc....
-
is it the TYPE of bass you are after or THE bass you sold ? did you note model numbers etc or are you just hoping memories will help ?
-
Our Rhythm is fantastic at this stuff , while we tend not to play covers sooooo analy that retuning more than a string or two is needed , at rehearsal he will demonstrate some the tunings he has picked up , and he has a great ear for it , top fun .
-
to be fair , it is a 2 second trick , even without a hipshot , which I did consider , but my pedal board has a tuner and it is very straightforward , as long as you remember to tune it back , though I am getting used to playing up a couple of frets until I get a chance on an open string to let me wind it back in
-
A quick drop D is all I use occasionally , but the times I forget to wind it back up
Another thing that might be good would be to have the logo/slogan on one side towards your shoulder so that people wouldn't have to stare directly at your breasts in order to read it! :-)
Apple have a new product for that based on the ipod , the i-breast , it is especially for issues when women complain that blokes keep staring at their breasts and not listening to them .

Excellent stuff BlackDog , Can you post up the event details and I will add it to the map

it is a great song and comes across really well as it is TBH , it sounds clean and crisp , a fuller version might be good also , but I like this anyway .

New song from All The Queens Ravens! Taster from forthcoming album
lurksalot replied to Clarky's topic in Share Your Music
Niges comment on the track fits very well ..........superb , I really enjoyed that . I shall keep my ears out for the album -
I don't know enough about that , but I had the same thought with mine.
-
Cheers Paul , I try, but I am starting by attempting to keep it simple and trying at least 1 technique each time I open up Reaper .
-
Cheers all , some great Ideas , I am leaning towards the Hercules jobbies , as I can tilt them to 45 degrees and stack them a bit tighter , those climbing grips look doody , but alas I am afraid of heights . I shall consider a little longer then make a decision when I am told what I am allowed .
If the body is very close to the wall then the standard round door stops or amp feet will be perfect. recessed screw holes to. A quick look round any hardware store will give you lots of ideas and solutions. It might be better if they did touch the body. This will be more stable. Only drawback with this is just make sure your body finish wont be tainted or react with the rubber or whatever. A
I am with you totally , you have helped evolve the idea , I have since googled some closed cell foam stuff , and that is up to 20mm thick , and might be a little more aesthetic if cut to shape . Mrs Lurks might be a tad , shall we say , objectionable , to having door stops screwed all over our brand new brickwork . Custom made always wins if compared to B&Q , even if who is doing the customising is not entirely transparant . excellent point about the contact point reaction , I will investigate that one .

Bert I guess Kiwi wont have a guest spot on the next PF album , but then I guess some of PF wont either , it must be hard for Kiwi (and Ped) having to let his (their) baby grow up, answer back and then having to bite his tongue to let it carry on growing , granted you can teach your kids how to approach certain situations , but (while I missed the initial spat) the guests can also sometimes forget that whatever their status , they are still guests. I have no Idea of the relevance of my observations, and I am sure you are correct in in yours , you always seem to be very level headed. If it is a Kiwi support post , I am with you, but I missed the bit where it went pear shaped , If it is all the right shape now , maybe OP could edit the the thread title to reflect this.

G.
thats the idea , yours looks superb , Are you just careful hanging them up then ? ed to add 'superb' being used with the noted excess of strings
You are not being a fanny. Get some rubber blocks 2"x4"x2" ish. Secure them to the wall where the body would normally meet the wall. You would need to recess the fixing screwholes etc and it would look a little odd when the guitar isn't hanging but it would work a treat. I saw this at a bar we used to drink in, in Ireland and thought what a clever idea. I'm not sure if it was home manufactured or bought as it was quite well done but I'm sure it would be easy to replicate. Their walls were stone. Good luck.
it seems like there are some good ideas on this one , excellent , and hearing a story of its application is top , I could even use some odd shapes and make them a feature , , I think I will see what I can get by Mrs Lurks . many thanks guys ed to add , Thinking on, a bit of mastic will stick the pads to the wall , they will have no load and in theory won't even get touched , but are there if needed . I feel a plan coming on . Photos will ensue when I get round to it .
Masonry drill and some deep seated wall plugs. Or expanding bolts. I have 5 guitars hanging from a 10mm plasterboard wall
I reckon I can nail the things to the wall Tony , I built the room , appreciatte the input though
One or two small rubber faced protrusions placed behind where the body will be will solve the problem. One of those springy door stops maybe? You wont see them when hung and will be very inconspicuos when visible. A
This has legs , I like it

Musical Copyright - a bit of a strange one
lurksalot replied to Wolverinebass's topic in General Discussion
Ive heard it of Berts version aswell , same with lyrics , write them and post them back . it will probably come to nowt anyway. -
I have seen a few brands of wall hangers that all seem to work , and have seen some lovely displays of bass guitars and other stringed instruments adorning the walls , however, as a recent decorative and 'trendy' renovation to our music room , we have brick faced a couple of walls that are where I wanted to hang my collection , the problem I have, is that while decorated plaster finishes are quite benign to the odd bit of guitar/wall interface , I fear absolutely, that barefaced brickwork is somewhat less so. I don't have a problem in myself or the family using my guitars, and accept the inevitable , I am no kit prima donna , but I don't want to tempt fate in this way. Does anyone have any top ideas or proven solutions that will both retain the the look of a brick wall , yet provide enough protection for my axes . I could always be being a fanny, and there is no issue , that conclusion from a voice of experience would also be good . TIA

Superb gig tonight , we played as solid all the way through as we ever have , with the added advantage of a clean sound . As I am learning to mix recordings I applied some of the thinking to our sound and Rhythm guitar is fantastic, he did what I asked and we all seemed to have sooooo much more space to play in without resorting to volume wars , maybe the room helped , I dont know , but the feedback we had was awesome , I really think we have stepped up , chuffed to bits . Gutted for you Jezza , it can't be nice that , if he cant do it in rehearsal though , I would not have put the show on .
-
great story , all the better for the pics , but I doubt very much if there ar any pics of me playing when I was a lad , I cant even recall seeing any of my younger brother who played in a proper band for a while, those pictures are to cherish .

Do the exhibitors give 'show' prices , and good deals on the day ?
