OK then , I have had a go , I think I am at my limit , so I put up what I've done , I think it is an improvement on last months entry, and I have a few kind people to thank for pointing me in the right direction, whether I followed any of it however is for you to judge. I noticed the headphones comment earlier , headphones is all I have at the moment so that is my monitoring method, I guess that proper studio monitors are the way to go , but one step at a time Linky

I fear this one may be a need a new computer , I don't think my laptop could handle that , still I will give it a try tommorrow.

Hi Ben , I am pretty new to the idea of mixing , but something that appears to be the crux of the issue is the seperation of the space for the sounds to be able to be heard properly and I reckon trying to record and mix live would be the hardest way of approaching it . To me the mix lacks the brightness that equing and shed loads of FX would bring if each track was done seperately, but I would have been happy with that as a recording of one of my gigs. With the sort of kit that DAW FX make on a track , I would shudder to think what hardware kit and time would be needed to do it live at a gig . Good work I reckon , but I am sure you will get some more practical advice from some guys who know stuff

Is this/are these mahoosive files ? my machine says it will take 15mins to download . I thought zips were really quick ?
Not sure buddy. The google earth things a cool idea. Where there's no set route, I really wouldn't know what to suggest
I wasn't thinking in terms of planning the route , more of reporting it pictorally , IYSWIM , I will give it some thought and have a play .

Does anyone Know how to share Google Earth files? I can and will do a simple map trace like that in the first thread , but I was thinking I could do a google earth trace so that it could be followed in detail but I cant suss how to share the route on Earth or whether peeps would follow it at such detail , I could easily do the route and save as a picture and refresh that for each event . Any prefs Jim / Bcers ?
Because at the moment I'm dealing with it mate.
Ah OK -
Well done Paul , I think it is fantastic , They are all great but yours is brilliant , a deserved winner .

I have only just sussed this feedback thing , but I bought an Ampeg pf500 in the middle of last year , very easy transaction , I wouldn't hesitate to deal again with Ben .

Why don't you go round his recent posts start quoting them and asking for some attention , he may get the hint if he is following some threads , it probably is a bit dodgy forum ettiquette , but might just kick something into life -
Does anyone even look at the GIG page on Basschat?
lurksalot replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
As an aside , I was in a sports car club for a fair few years and did a number of trackdays , while there was a large web forum presence of friendliness , I found that I was the only person of those that drove the marque to go and introduce myself to other owners who were there , it was bizarre , only once did someone come and introduce themselves to me in 6 years. I suppose though , I could be the guy they all wanted to avoid and maybe my sh1t stinks , or they were sooooo embarrased at being soooo slow . but still I still think it was odd. -

what with gigging, rehearsing, the occassional show and the odd night on the lash , I would be on thin ice running around to see to many BCer gigs , having said that , I have been to see a couple that were local and nearly got to see one while on holiday, there are a few I would love to go and see that seem waaaaay off the beam , but the logistics often don't work out. I think I need someone to explain what the wife and kids will enjoy if I take them to Wakefield or Nottingham for a night out -
Where are you from? I could drink beer and listen to that
+1
Sorry if this is rambling, was up till gone midnight trying to get a half decent version of 'Going Underground' under control.
Be careful with this one , fantastic tune , but you need to be up in the mix and quite bright , almost clanky and it makes you exposed , the song is not that awkward to play but the start needs the confidence , if you get a chance run their start through a couple of times so that you know who does what, where , if you are not expecting what they throw at you it could get a bit messy. I played along to the CD for ages and new it inside out ..... until the band tried it out for real , it took a few goes to get the start right .

that sounds like a shame , good luck anyway
10/10 for 'Lonely Boy'!
[thread hijack] is lonely boy an 'in' song ? to listen to it it is a touch lack lustre, our lead guitar suggested it as the kids love it , and after 15mins we had a good dynamic sound to it , but is it a crowd pleaser ? [/thread hijack]

Good luck with getting it all nailed , but I think they are both taking the mick TBH , I'm with Les on the audition thing , and why on earth would band 2 leave it so late to make a call , and even then it sounds like you are effectivelly depping for a non existing player

Cheers Mick , I will do a bit of digging with that info and see what crops up , it sounds a bit odd ATM but I am sure I will pick it up when I have a play with it. Kev

I think I have sussed the FX thing , creating sub groups as you said but every group is then in a folder which contains the whole track , then you can apply FX to this folder so that the FX affect everything , is that right .
As for my mix, it went something like this.... Listen to the tracks up at a unity gain
Is that like normalizing the tracks to a common gain?
Set out the tracks and group them all into sensible and useful groups and subgroups, I ended up with:- FX group - Plate reverb - Ambience reverb - Delay
Does this mean you have groups of effects that apply to the whole mix as opposed to applying effects to each track?
I spent about 4 or 5 hours on the mix
I spent that learning how to pan ed for spelig

I am only just getting my head around Reaper , I can record on it now , I jave just started to grasp the concept of envelopes on each track for volume and panning , I have aquired some headphones (Shure 440 ?) , and I have played with a couple of the EQ VST's you mentioned earlier. I haven't got as far as the grouping of tracks, effects etc I am not sure what that is all about , I will do some you tube research on that stuff , But I think you are correct about the ear training as well .

I use an Ampeg pf500 , bought from the classifieds on here, I kind of bought it as a back up to a warwick profet 3.2 , but find I use it as my main kit. I was always skeptical of behringer stuff , but my experience of seeing 2 old ep2500 power amps being thrown about (dropped off sack trucks etc) and condensated to scarily dripping levels , yet putting out the goods on the PA just amazes me . I worry now though that just saying that might just be the curse that sees them off ed to alter a potential infection into a term of suspicion

Daft as it sounds I have used cab carpet which is pre glued like sticky back plastic , it gives a great finish and as long as you have corner protection will stay in pretty good nick . I can't remember where I got it from ATM , it is a far cry from the old Thixafix glueing method , though it was always an added bonus that with the fabric glues you could always view your finished work from the same altitude as the kite you where as high as
