I absolutetly understand the learning resource part of the competition , thats why I have included myself in the process , I know my skills and kit is very limited , but, the whole idea is a great insight into the world of production. I have seen documentaries, read a few articles and hear reference to mixing quite regularly , but its not until you get your hands dirty that the pieces start to fit . Lots of people know this stuff and can hone their skills , me , I am in at the first rung and it is a fantastic idea. when I first saw the competition announced , I could barely start up a DAW , and had no idea what the competition was all about. ( if your hear my entry, you might argue I still don't) but at least I've got to the first rung . Some of the replies take a fair bit of thought and time to respond and post, so I for one appreciatte the effort that a lot have put into the project.

I've voted , I have to say this is as much a competition to the ear as it is to mixing , even learning to listen to the mixes knowing what was on offer is a total education .

My wife had reaaranged the surprise party for a month later and booked the band which was in the gig diary as a party for a mate of the drummers, I knew nothing until I turned up with the kit , went in through the stage door and the whole place shouted surprise , it was a superb night , so yes I played at both my 50th birthday parties

[/quote] Keeping it fluid sounds superb, thats a great vision , it would be a great to keep a list of participants , gigs , dates etc as part of the fun and I will do the map if you want me to .

We just do legwork , knocking on doors, talking to people and putting on a half decent performance when we get a gig , after a while the repeat bookings come along and make the work a bit easier , but always knock on new doors and see getting in at new venues half the fun, I think we are of an age though where friends are at notable birthdays and a fair few parties come our way , they all look good on a band CV , I personally had two 50th birthday parties last year , and the band played at both

Just a bit of fun to see how big I can get a map Ok that might work , it would need a list to follow with detail of the participants but there should be enough space to put some numbers/letters to index to the list on a route . I would need to update the picture as and when , and please excuse the iffy example above but it might work as long as the entire BC community doesnt join in, but if they do, it could be done region by region

Possibley best to get as many on board as poss , plan a rough route, then pester the heck out of everyone to fill the gaps, timescales will be a bit interesting depending of the BCers gig calender .

I have a pet cage surplus to requirements if anyone is interested. it is 4ft x 2ft and has a cage over a plastic tray base. I only just realised that to add a vocal I have to monitor the track , that involves ear phones so I had to work out how to recieve a signal via usb yet send it out vis the headphone socket , for some reason, the headphone out on the audio interface did not kill the output , and as I type this I realise I could of just pulled out the output jack when one headsmashing is just not enough

Oh , does that mean mine is a bit quiet , I did notice the others were a bit louder , but I used the K meter, does that affect the effect

I must be getting the bug, because I have understood most of this thread
