Esteemed followers of the recording sections of the forum . May I pay homage to the results I hear that come from your expertise , but I cannot grasp the process. I see comments on different options and have just downloaded Reaper , I have tried audacity , cubase LE and a couple of others I am sure , BUT , they all seem so counter intuitive , is it me , am I losing it ? I grasped photoshop , spreadsheets , word , even powerpoint but all these DAW jobbies just do my head in . I just seem to hit a hurdle every step , I even saw a post that said to copy and paste in Reaper was a piece of p155 , but that appears to be beyond me. I really want to get into this as it focuses the technique somewhat and while I can use it as a practice aid quite well , as soon as I try to get past the very basics I am lost . This is just a rant I suppose , as no-one will have enough info to help me , even the reaper wiki leaves me cold , I just think a level of numptie is probably a painfully hard upward learning curve , but I just can't see the logic so far , IYSWIM

I have a Spector legend which I have played for 3 years and love it , a reasonably priced Korean made bass and it is excellent.

Welcome dude , good timing aswell , there is a thread on here that must be close on clearing your boys out of your Zoom b9.1ut's , -
we did a fundraiser last night , and everyone was well up for a party , one of the PA cabs died at the sound check so a quick shuufle to use a moniter cab in its place and work around the stage sound , it was quite bizarre that the age of the dancers was a little maturer than normal , always a bit nervy when you are belting out 'sex on fire' and the grannies are singing and strutting back at you .

I could not resist this pedal. My b2.1u has been battered to bits and was due to be replaced , but this will do the trick nicely for a similar price . I will have a bit of fun trying it out I am sure. I might need some narrower boots though Cheers Wayne , more commission due I reckon

I love playing the song , I love the dual guitar parts , I love my bit too , but it never seems to get a decent reaction , we do it well , it rocks and sound superb but it is not a big hitter with most audiences ,
Sorry mate, but you haven't a clue.

Can I ask what kind of music you're into?
I enjoy a fairly wide spectrum thanks, but I struggle with Steely Dan , oh and rap , I appreciatte it is very clever, but it does nothing for me. While It seems to me a bit random , I guess it is very difficult to get it as together as they do , and they may be throwing a bucket full of random chords in the air and playing them in both the order and the time sequence that they landed , but they all do it together. It might be the most technically brilliant stuff in the world , but I can't listen to it, I have tried . even bought an album as loads of mates waxed lyrical about them, but it grates. No offence to anyone who loves their stuff.
my other half and her friend have just been watching the X Factor.... ive been accused of being cynical and taking music too seriously... the only people i can turn to for some back up are my fellow bass players.... when i was young i was brought up with stevie wonder, chaka khan, steely dan.....
Taking music too seriosly .......Steely dan ........UGH , I am sure they composed songs by throwing a bucket full of random chords in the air and playing them in both the order and the time sequence that they landed .

A great pub gig for the Razors last night , though , it was a bit odd cause the girl who booked us was having a birthday party in the pub, and she got hold of our reserve song list and proceeded to rebuild the setlist . we accomodated a fair bit by dropping a few of the 'heavier' numbers and dropped in another beatles , crowded house and a few others and had the place bouncing , we even had to put summer of 69 back in The end time is midnight , but the landlord came up to us and asked us to keep playing , so we threw beatles , highway to hell and finished with Tenpole tudor , swords of a thousand men !!! , got re-booked for a bigger fee and everyone was happy , cushty.

I have fallen in with a brilliant bunch who can play , gig, offer advice and listen to ideas, have wicked humour and they can all communicate . I texted them all an hour ago with the of chance of a gig from a cancellation at a decent local venue and within 10 mins , I was confirming the gig . A top crew and a joy to be a part of .

At what stage do you call yourself a bass player?
I do remember when I first met my Ex at a party full of actors and musos. He (muso) said to me 'Are you an actor then?' and I replied without hesitation 'Yes'. I remember thinking at the time 'should I qualify this by saying I'm just an amateur?' and then thought 'no - I am a bloody actor, so there is no need to elaborate at this point!'.
No disrespect , but if you had said "NO", would it , on balance ,have been a better answer -
Back in a band and excited again !!

I've got a spare fishtail parka, it might be a bit hot unless you have got LEDs and good draught -
have a look here , I am still researching as a result

with the NAD's my old 3020 ( which my mate still uses) had a function that would lower the input signal enabling you to wind up the power stage , this transformed the sound and the clarity was superb . but then I will be honest that with a garrard quartz lock table , a decent cartridge and wharfeldale laser 100s , with 'the lexicon of love' spinning , my ears weren't good enough to warrant spending any more .

I have taken a punt , there is some great stuff well done peeps .
my wife is awesome. i have plenty of basses, amps, cabs, pa kit etc and she rarely grumbles. the main problem is that i like buying run down instruments and doing refinishes so i regularly have dismantled axes which smell of fresh nitro stinking and cluttering up the house. she'd be happier if i spent more money and bought stuff in a1 condition.
Ha Ha , I love tinkering with my older stuff and I do a bit of cab building if the mood takes me , but the misses hates it , again she would rather me spend on clean and posh looking stuff , the sound or tonal quality doesn't really count with her , its how new it looks !! The Mrs bought the guitar that got me back into playing some years ago , so I keep it for sentimental reasons , and if I fancy some new kit I casually mention that maybe I should move it on so as not to upset her with an extra guitar , my collection will have a new addition by chrimbo , if Mr Spectors boys pull their fingers out
I made a couple of enquiries on a bass from the states , and boy do they want to do a deal, they will reduce the declared value fro vat and duty etc , but they are in the realms of pestering , I am not a tyre kicker and I respect the fact that they are asking for a sale , but I am not keen on the tactics and the duplicitous paperwork .
As it happens , after a few emails and spec discussion , I have managed to order a build from Bass direct and got a deal that is very favourable with the price of a US import /duty/vat and delivery etc So assuming everything is good It is for me
bluejay (Sylivia) took some stunning photos (Sylvia, they are superb!
Try to find fireproof cloth, if you can. Should have a certificate attesting to it's worthiness for public area use. Some venues could be a bit wary of non-certified stuff. Hope this helps...
I will will ask at Tranters market stall for an appropriatte rating certificate , but I may keep a bit schtum to the venues though , I shall store it with all the PAT certificates for our kit

I am not proud to say I have never had a bass lesson , but victor wooten, while being a fantastic artist , never inspired me , a bit like on the blues guitarist thread , loads of incredible players that sometimes seem to be w*****g the planking. I play competently , though not extravagantly , I have no 'chops' I play as much or as litlle as I feel is needed , my technique may not be purist ,but , I am not welded to my guitar and I reckon bassists hearing what a bass line is is sooooooo true , to most others the bass is purely filling the sound spectrum. Bass players need lessons in manual handling , GAS avoidance , self esteem (and when they have that ) sound and light engineering , me, I love it I do
