Yes, sorry I didn't mean that everyone should have their action as low as possible, just trying to illustrate the fact that I think a good setup is best done in an intuitive way rather than a mathematical way. That's why (exactly as you said) it's best to learn to setup your instrument yourself, because no-one will ever do it as well as you can yourself. The majority of people I did setups for just said "make it play really nice" when I asked them how I liked their action. I only had a small percentage of people tell me how they liked it, and I certainly never had anyone ask for a really high action. I guess maybe the majority of people who are paying someone else to re-string and set up their instrument don't really know what they do or don't like with regards to action as long as it feels okay and isn't causing them any problems?
I know where you are coming from on this one , not guitar related, but some customers know exactly what they want, specify it , and are chuffed when you do it . Others are happy for you to do as you see fit and mostly are happy , though some then think that you could have done more , and without specifying what they wanted (because they often don't know what they want) are are then a bit miffed when they don't get the latest guru tech spec (that looks after itself) that they percieved they would get .

I had a chuckle on Tuesday when he said that he liked Fleet Foxes , he said they weren't overtly commercial, now, correct me if I am wrong , and I can't find a reference , but I remember seeing an episode of Dragons den where a band effectively sold a share of itself to peter jones . was that band not the fleet foxes ?

Awesome wedding gig last night in a marquee in the middle of nowhere to about 200 peeps 20-30 people on the dance floor alll night (bar 2 numbers) and we rocked out 36 songs !! We had a PA amp blow at sound check but I used my power amp in lieu , and my warwick profet 3.2 is normally my preamp but handled the rig fine . our new led cans worked superb. we stopped for a 10 min break and as soon as we did the generator ran out of deisel , after a 10min top up we started again. The daft thing is the side of the marquee was open for the outside crowd , but it pi55ed down halfway through the 2nd set and we didn't notice. All the extension cables from the generator where soaking wet as were speaker/xlr cables and a takiamine 12 string !!! but it wasn't until we were packing away that it became obvious. everything seems to have dried out just fine LOADS of bullets dodged and a great party for everyone .
[PEDANTRY] I think you'll find that's plectrum. To prevent further confusion: plectra is plural, plectrum is singular. [/PEDANTRY]
Ah come on , your not telling me you can't use at least 2 plectra at the same time ? you must have small hands , maybe Spike could do 64ths at 720 bps with a bit of practice -

I have no issue with whichever playing style someone uses , but one thing I have noticed is that if I start bouncing around at a gig it is easier to keep control of actually playing the notes if I throw the pick away and use my fingers , it somehow feels that I can keep my hand in position better when the guitar is moving about a bit -
We played at the Llay Gala last night, it was supposed to be outside in a small marquee , but the weather was so bad we set up inside , It was a bit of a struggle getting any crowd involvement , and we chopped the set about on the fly to get some interest, it worked a bit , but while everyone seemed to enjoy it , it lacked the vibe of a normal pub gig. It was a big room though and I suppose we were on early before a disco/ Kareoke , and there were a lot of children running around. All in all we enjoyed it , but I think we worry too much about the audience reaction sometimes, we know our stuff and should really just nail it , If we look as if we are having a good time it will rub off, Still , I think we are back again next year

I only used a pick on my bass once , One good swing, and the guitar was firewood , never really understood the obsession with them after that . -

Who made you decide "I'm going to play bass!"
lurksalot replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
Graham Tristram I have no idea of his competence as a musician , but I bought his guitar from his mum , and it only had 4 strings , so I learned to play it , ipso facto ergo historantum Ed to add , I just googled him and found him straight off , first result, I think I shall say hello -
I understand that DSR and internet shopping is big and will get bigger, but at some point do we really want warehouses in the countryside and boarded up high streets ? I am sure what comes around goes around , but if you don't use it you lose it ... please leave any other meta 4's and similies here before i get sick of my own !!

Who's had a jubilee gig cancelled because of the rain?
lurksalot replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
If you are only lending kit , I don't think you have the same risk as if you were hiring it out. It might still be reasonable to suss the competency of the peeps using it though, both for their own safety and the wellbeing of your kit -
there are some very small minded peeps out there , and to be honest, with thinking like that I hope that they stay out there, or maybe prepare to be enlightened and apart from my own drivel , yes Basschat is VERY funny , VERY witty, VERY informative and a pleasure to read and contribute to.

Ah , this helps , I was aware of Roosendal and Stijlorenrijk , Brabantse the area that they are in ? but is it a flower based festival ? It is a bit of a distance to Norway though. You speak distance in miles , is that as a translation thing , or is that your measure of choice ?

Bert, you are most kind, and of course equally welcome , It would appear that there are many places where the grass is green and the girls are pretty, I like these places. Ed for cheese on toast fingers
