  1. I was impressed that the film crew were able to find his place , what with the streets having no names.
  2. A tie in January between @Leonard Smalls and @upside downer with 2 cracking tunes, the first off the blocks to claim the honour of picture choice, was, the latter. A picture that might inspire a slow leisurely pace, or does it... "Hope this gives our marvellous minstrels plenty of ideas. The light at the end of the tunnel. Just about to exit the south side of Crick Tunnel on our narrowboat." Have a listen to the entries and choose your favourite 3 1 Lurksalot A metaphorical tunnel? 2 @Leonard Smalls Knowing that narrowboating and drum'n'bass go together like Chas'n'Dave I've done some jazzy fretless noodling. Roni Size eat yer heart out! 😁😎🤘 3 @MoonBassAlpha I'm trying to capture the feeling of a slow, peaceful trip along a canal. Things happen slowly and I've deliberately kept it repetitive and relatively uneventful. 4 @Jean-Luc Pickguard My recording is called 'To The Light' As posted above, this is a poem I wrote based on the pic read over a repeated chord sequence. 5 @AndyTravis I suppose it’s quite like a canal boat trip, various locks, different places and people - some parts are rocky, some calm…etc. 6 @kingofthestuntmen The title has a double meaning; I'm always happy around and/or in water. 7 @upside downer A slow, meandering, folky acoustic saunter through the musical tunnel towards a jaunty exit. 8 @Baloney Balderdash Kind of a Sonny Sharrock inspired piece. There we have the February offering for you, I would have had this up earlier but the weather appears to be having some fun with the stability of my internet connection. Vote for your favourite 3 tunes this month Voting ends at midnight on 28th Good luck.
  3. Oh my, some fine work so far, fair play all
  4. I think that the reasons are fairly simple in the main, in that lots of people who have the talent and the inclination can make a mark easier, and can have the technology to do it on their own. They don’t have to share decision-making, they don’t have to share a diary, they just get up and do it. As a band you’ve gotta get on with other people, you have to discuss things, you have to agree things and you have to organise and make joint decisions on everything, whereas someone on their own doesn’t have that hassle. They can just perform, and they now have the ability and the technology to do it. Being in a band has social implications and interactions that some people don’t want, but plenty of people do.
  5. OK , its a bit early for me , but I'm stuck at home recovering from a wrist operation , so bizarrely, no actual instruments were played on this and I had time to get stuck in. I guess a MIDI keyboard might count as an instrument , but I played it left handed, so it took plenty of takes! Technical , EZ drummer , VG iron rhythm guitar , basic bass patch , lead guitar ipad garage band. all guitars through a few Waves guitar 3 and the bit you really wanted ... me on vocals All on Reaper with Ozone 8 polishing it a bit Lyrics ......not many mind
  6. before I forget , I need to uphold tradition while Dad is on sabbatical .... And the winners are @Leonard Smalls and @upside downer I haven't sussed out how to post a link to the PDF to print it off , but will do by next month hopefully
  7. I could do with a bird singing on mine , Pat Benatar or Alanis Morisette in their prime would work 😁
  8. To be fair if Dad was about, he’d probably suggest chopping the 5 minutes off and leave the 18 seconds. 😉
  9. A couple of BPM quicker should bring it just under 😂 it seems a shame to exclude a masterpiece for 18seconds, I’d post it and the voting public can apply there conscience to it 😁
  10. A tie in January between @Leonard Smalls and @upside downer with 2 cracking tunes but the first off the blocks to claim the honour of picture choice, was, the latter. The latter? is that a new member? did they even enter? Am i losing it? "Hope this gives our marvellous minstrels plenty of ideas. The light at the end of the tunnel. Just about to exit the south side of Crick Tunnel on our narrowboat." ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes, can you imagine the reverb in tunnel, a V8 maybe, but bagpipes! . ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 22nd , its a short month guys , get stuck in A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super smashing. Good luck, Have fun
  11. And still tied at the top, well done @Leonard Smalls and @upside downer in particular and the other entries which were brilliant. the first one of the winners to offer a picture by shouting AYE in the thread can PM it to me and we will get underway for Feb
  12. Oh no , apologies, I think my spellcheck might be making its own guesses from my awful typing
  13. Tied at the top , close call so far and not a lot of time left to split them …
  14. good timing Andy ! voting thread ...
  15. If you can cast your minds back to November , the challenge was won by @Jean-Luc Pickguard He thus provided the picture for the January Challenge ... Without further ado and no more fluffing about, as I'm sure you couldn't bear it , take care.... "Here's a pic that I think might prompt some interesting entries." And so, cute as it is, on to the entries this month , please choose your favourite 3 1 @Leonard Smalls Not being the target market for anything teddy-bear related, I done some funky stuff featuring slap ACG and DOD filter. POW! (or not...) 2 @upside downer The teddy bears have met up for a picnic and a bit of a dance. Led by Ted and Ginger, they gently two-step all their worries away. 3 @Jean-Luc Pickguard Miss Lila Bear has put on her best pink frock and has been excitedly awaiting her first dance with her new friend, Grizz. 4 @SH73 Bear with me. Ran out of time for vocals. 5 Lurksalot The idea was to get a soundtrack for each of Lurksalittle's favourite bears, but I so ran out of time. 6 @AndyTravis I’d suggest it could be the lamenting of a lost love - the bear remembers the summer of love with his now ex bear friend 🤣 There we have it , A great way to start the composition season Please choose 3 from the entries Voting will close at midnight on 31st Jan good luck all
  16. On a side note, I'm working in the morning so I might not get the vote thread up till midday-ish On another side note , I think I'll need to give everyone 6 votes to get one of them for mine
  17. I really struggled to get something for this , the idea was to get a soundtrack for each of Lurksalittle's favourite bears, but I so ran out of time. I am having my carpal tunnel done next week so I have been mad at work since Christmas to make sure I've got things up to date, and this track has suffered ! end of the excuses I guess EZdrummer is probably the best part of this, but I hack around my Ibby 6 string through Waves GTR3 , and my little Fleabass pretty clean ,
  18. Panic over the monitor section on the track arming button was set to a different preference , I don’t remember doing it , but must have I guess
  19. Reaper is playing games with me 🤬 arm a track and play the bass through it all is good , but if I press play to jam along to the others tracks, I lose the volume of the armed track playback to my headphones . If I hit record the playback comes through fine . i have not got the first clue and it’s racking me off . the only problem I have was a power cut while the pc was on sleep, but there must be a setting that escapes me totally.
  20. it will be a lot worse with my wind !
  21. I have to say that learning to home record was probably one of the most frustrating things I ever did, however, having eventually sussed with the help of loads of people on here, it is a fantastic opportunity to have some great fun. even the language that is used, really doesn’t explain the job in hand when you looking at the recording software and the DAW, it just doesn’t seem to make sense until one day it clicks and it just all falls into place. As BRX says, it doesn’t mean you produce some fantastic material, however you can record and produce songs, tunes and ideas. whatever it is just great fun.
  22. A friend explained that he used chatgp to verify that he was submitting both his wife and son’s tax return correctly. he had previously paid an accountant but the AI gave him the confidence to do it himself.
  23. If it were Jazz punk mr Smalls would be all over it , but I guess he’ll find a way 😂
