Dove? Pigeon? They were never the type of birds i was interested in!
I'm not much of an ornithologist myself , but I can spot a great tit from a good distance
Ok, I have been down there for a chat, we can have if wanted a sunday afternoon in say feb. ( or any time) food wise they can do a set price buffet or better still you can just order food from a menu and just pay for what you order, Now i dont know how this works so please bear with me... 1) is it just for bass chatters ? ( in which case there may be a fee for the room if not many in.) or 2) can this be open to public ticket sales, ? in which case they will let us have the room free if its akined to a charity. now i have used the room a few times free raising cash for Backford hospital which is a hospital for the terminally ill, hospice of the good shepherd, so very worthwhile, http://www.hospiceof...hester-hospice/ so if it is "2" then there are some local bass luthers, and also the ones you all know could get involved setting up stalls maybe, and i know one or two "very well known" bass players that might be willing to give us a chat, As said i dont know how these things work, and i know its not Manchester, but anyway its an option for a start.
I would have thought it just for Basschatters to be honest , If people in the next room are intrigued to see whats going on , well fair enough , but to charge a ticket you might get some random peeps demanding access to all the private kit. If we are all BC'ers , then at least there is some sort of hope that we know what we are doing if someone is trying out your precious rig

I turned a bit Merkin there , but Dad has it

I know that it is a poignant picture what with 11/11 , but I am getting Dastardly and Muttley flapping around trying to catch the pigeon

Voting Time -----October Composition Challenge
lurksalot replied to lurksalot's topic in General Discussion
Well done Indy , it is s lovely piece. if you'ld like to choose a picture for the November challenge and send the link to myself or Skol we will get it up and running this evening. -
I still end up referring to that place as the Shell Club ! Are Sundays a good time for the room there ? if so, then I guess we just need an idea of costs and hang a date out to see who can make it . I am not sure a full PA is needed , but its a great offer, I suppose it depends on what the objectives of the attendees is , if it is just a touchy feely mess around on as much kit as you can , then just a bit of space and a few hours is probably all thats required .

Voting Time -----October Composition Challenge
lurksalot replied to lurksalot's topic in General Discussion
Oh Man , that was a difficult choice , after scoring them initially out of 10 , the lowest was 8.5 , and that was mine It has again been a pleasure to listen to the offerings , thanks to all. Indys track is lovely and it reminds me that its about time The Boy pulled his finger out , -
I got past my Reaper recognition by just ignoring it ! The first time reaper ran with the waves plug ins , it threw up a non recognition of an application file , I clicked past it but it threw it up again After a while I realised it was doing it for each part of the plug in ie Gtr3 has about 12 vst parts so it kept bouncing me out , but by just closing each warning and ignoring the problem , it just went away

many thanks , she can sing really nicely when she tries , she wants to keep the notes from getting too high though as she gets her choir voice , and she only likes that in choir
-
Well I'm in, Its a little bit literal in its observation ,but takes a story in a slightly different way https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/keep-your-hair-on I can get listening to the others now
HI all, wasn't sure if i was going to enter an effort this month, wanted to do a stomping guitar tune for this but couldn't get anywhere with it. Came back after a long nightshift, sat at the computer, looked at the picture, felt a little sad, and came up with a tune, wrote some lyrics with reference to the picture and then recorded it live (not sure if this is allowed so feel free to bin it if I'm breaking rules!). Apologies for my voice and its my first ever effort as a piano song! Listened to some of the efforts so far and they are all brilliant and proper compositions, mines a very simple effort but its based on what I got from the pic, hence it being called Bones! https://soundcloud.com/thevelvetknock/boneslive
Pretty much any recording method is fine, no problem

You get fenders on the side of boats as well
Got mine done bar the listen-to-it-a-million-times-on-every-speaker stage............
I get to that point except I dont actually get to listen on every speaker , what happens with me, is that I listen to it a million times just to try and like the thing , then by the time I have convinced myself that it is actually worth anything, I have got to like the version I did first . The dark arts of production are ever elusive to me

A real simple start up and cheap as chips is an Ampkit it plays inline through a little box that your phone or tablet plugs into , it then goes to the interface and the DAW so no latency and it records exactly what you hear, if you monitor from the interface rather than teh ADW At the minute I am using a waves gtr set up which has some awesome tones for guitar and bass , but I have to use it once as a stand alone to monitor and then add as an FX on the track when playing back , other wise the DAW real time monitoring latency ruins the job !

I’ve had something mastered by Abbey Road Studios!
lurksalot replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
excellent , though subtlety will often pass me by, I loved it dude , bass track was awesome , top stuff , voted I have to say though the fact the blurb and title states ' Mastered by Abbey Road Studios' probably helps the ears define the mix on its own to some If I'm honest I am not sure that the tempo fits with the sentiment of the lyric , but when did sentiment ever matter on the dance floor great work , -
yep , even I can hear the difference there !! particularly the very trilly bits , the first run it almost sounded like clipping , but with the after it was a distinct trilly bit , I think it needs mixing down a bit now
-
there are always some people who know it all and like to tell , me I know next to nothing ...BUT... I love my little 2i2 and may upgrade to the new generation one , just enjoy it and when you have found its limits yourself , you can judge it , dive in

Wow , if you've got that lot and know how to get the sounds on to a DAW , I reckon you've cracked it It took me months to get that far with just an interface and Reaper I am sure if you ask specifics you'll get answers but as I recall you tube have a fantastic array of tutorials to get you past those sticky moments when you just want to throw the lot in the nearest skip and crack open that bottle to cry into
