1. well thats pretty much how the Razors do it too , though we do try to avoid parking the vehicles in a field
2.
About an hour after this poll opened 3 people had voted and I had received 3 votes. I promptly handed in my resignation to my boss in anticipation of the fame and fortune that undoubtedly comes with winning this competition.
I kind of feel your pain in reverse, I normally have to wait till the death before some kind soul takes pity and offers up a consolatory vote in my direction , this time I got it at opening time , so I was at least running with the pack for an hour or so
3. Well without sounding defeatist , I think I use all the other sounds I can muster to drown out the sound of my bass playing :-) I like the idea and in all honesty it might provide a bit of kick in the arse to get some more quality practice in !!
4.
747? That's so 1973! I've ordered a custom ratted Virgin Galactic shuttle. ..
.. with a vinyl roof, go faster stripes and furry dice
5.
So to anyone thinking of having a crack next month, just do it. Don't think about it, just go ahead!
Excellent advice Many thanks again Douglas for your superb input this month , both in terms of your composition and of course these reviews , I may try the sleeve note thing on mine next time if it really is that difficult to pick out what I am singing !!
6.
The pub owners will be happy to hear that. Blue
Maybe, but Bonzodog intimated that the pubs he does play pay around £250 (about $380) but he plays 1.5 hours all in , you play for 3hrs, at an hourly rate the pub pays more than some of your bars . bonzodog gets $190/hour for his pub fee , for yours you get $133/hour for your bar fee I guess the bar owners are happy about that
7. I am quite pleased to have got one done this month , there has been a lot going on in the Lurks household to start the year. As usual, as mine is done I have had a listen through the entries so far and a cracking set they are too , so all I can offer are the 'Boaterfly blues' https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/boaterfly-blues I do need to learn to sing though
8.
Well, driving 80 miles for a $30.00 a man show is certainly a good example of a bad gig. Bad business too. Did you guys actually play a gig like that? Blue
Blue I have to ask a question , you are banging on about doing these bar gigs as a business , paying for your living , you claim to be doing around 75 bar gigs a year, paying $400- $500 a time and the occasional festival . If we average that at $450 That strikes me that your share is $112.50 a gig at 75 gigs makes $8,400 , if we include another $1,000 for the odd festival or 3 , gives earnings of $9,400 that is of course before expenses , travelling costs , fuel , strings etc I may be well wide of the mark, but you seem to have freely offered up the info I have picked this up from and it thus seems to gives you an approximate income when worked out in sterling of £6,580 . Tell me I have missed something here , because it just doesn't seem right that you can live on this as your only source of income, sorry if I have misconstrued anything in my thoughts
9. What about Apple pie and custard flavour ice cream , I think that would work
10. I just bought a strap from John , a pleasure to deal with , many thanks .
11. I am sure that personality has far more to do with auditions than playing ability , unless of course a level of virtuosity is needed. Half the time the rest of the band don't have a clue what you play anyway, and as long as nothing stands out as obviously really bad , it wouldn't score against you. I had a first gig with one band where a guitarist had to sit out as he was barred from the venue , so he sat in on a rehearsal and said he was surprised at the input I had , he always assumed the bass was fine but never listened to it
12. Get a long lead or wireless , then get well out front and have a listen there , out front is where it counts , so as long as the overall mix /tones etc are good to the audience and you can actually hear yourself (and your band mates) then all is good
13. Both lyric and music are important to me , and I like to be able to hear lyrics in a mix . There is some pure poetry written to tunes and I think story telling and comments from a social and personal perspective are what brings music to life
14. My first ever gig with the previous band was a brahma, I joined the band .and got a gig at a pub I used to frequent. Two weeks before, lead guitar announces he can't do the gig as he is in a relationship with one of the bar staff and her ex and his friends would make him very unwelcome , we called on a previous band member who helped out , a new worked set mind
15. I reckon 9 times out of 10, if your front man had a connect with the crowd , or some really good banter to get them onside, then you have much more room for manoeuvre musically
16. Some frustration today , Reaper wouldn't find my VSTs , it took an hour to sort it and subsequently had drained my ideas, optimism and talent in the process. And now SWMBO has to depart to Crete to nurse her brother who is quite ill and support sister in law who is struggling a bit , so the picture now is looking a bit different to me. A rethink might be in order , I think I would like to write something that reflects the current problem , but I doubt I could do it justice , so I am in 2 minds
17. If I could get a word in edgeways ... You can pretty much choose whatever aspect from whatever picture you choose , for me I think the story is in the second one so that's were the focus will be , but the first one being Rain , might provide the style of the piece , I'm thinking Quo So maybe if the picture was turned inside out the, the picture is inside someones stomach and they are so nervous they are going to ship themselves. As per normal I reserve the right to completley miss my own brief by a country mile
18.
Ibanez Musician MC-924 in polar white, I believe. Lovely-sounding bass. I want one.
My brother has one in the dark wood finish , at least I think that's what it is, I did offer to give it a refurb as he hasn't really touched it in years, I might have to remind him so that I can get a feel of it , I seem to recall it being quite heavy though
19.
You've got it wrong. The giant butterflies stole their boat & left them stranded on the rocks. They did put up a fight & managed to kill 2 of the giant butterflies though. One's on the rocks & the other is downed in the sea. 2 appropriate pics to what December's weather has been. Water & wind.
Ah , That makes sense now , though on a technical level , it would appear that the butterflies themselves have attached themselves to the wrong side of the masts. I would of thought that the most efficient use of the butterflies aerodynamics would be to have the wind to the underside of their wings. This thinking would suggest that the butterflies should be facing the rear of the ship , it is all well and good making up these fantasy type images but the artists should at least apply some physics to give the idea some credence
20.
..................... It makes no sense.
Well I guess we know who you will be voting for then
21.
Aye! I'm guessing that this months pic will encourage lots of free improvisation and experimental stuff!
22. It feels like I've been waiting all year so far for the new picture to show up
23. Well done guys , great work , thanks for popping in with the certificates Dad , happy new year to you all
