1.
No no no, even more reason why you should be out tonight... going door to door, canvassing for votes!
I did that last night , 300 doors on our street but I am not sure that I convinced them all
2.
Staying home tonight while my band is out gigging because I was given an impromptu flying lesson by a car driver while out on my bike a few weeks ago. Might have managed the gig from my wheelchair but not with my left arm in a cast from knuckles to above the elbow.
Tough one Dave , get better soon dude
3. I can't go out tonight , especially with the vote finishing on a new year , and I only need another 7 votes or so to pip it at the post
4.
Epiphone Eb0 horrible things. Only literally one horrible tone, awkward to setup right. They do look nice and are fairly well made. All Hofner violin basses they have one good tone Imo. Ok for playing certain things , useless compared to other basses for anything else. They do look good but are not well designed or made in any of there price range, stupid control panel. And too add awkward to get the intonation right in fact you can't it's a compromise. If not for you know who they would not be around today. I'm pretty sure they could modernise them somewhat and still retain the soul of the original too, but they don't.
I got a copy for the daughter , the neck has a significant radius , yet the bridge is almost flat , truly impossible to set up with any consistency , so I had to build my own bridge for it !!
5.
There are about 10 in the Imgur album for anyone that wants to see all the pics. http://imgur.com/a/z2q40/all

From those pictures it looks to me as if there's been some cracking and slippage of the truss rod anchor point, where that brass piece sits in the two cutouts. Hopefully Martin will also have done something about that.
If you look at the other pictures you can see that the break in the wood has been repaired by repositioning the broken bit, glued and metal pins inserted through it to strengthen the area. What would really piss me off would be the choice of the wood by the original guy in the factory in the first place, for an instrument of this value it is a fundamentally bad choice of timber to make the neck from , the knott at the nut with the corresponding machining has weakened the structural point of the truss bearing surface to the point of it breaking. I would argue that the cause of this problem is purely down to the shoddy choice of timber used to make the neck in the first place.
6. everyone hears the music their own way and learning how to listen to it is probably the biggest trick. being able to 'reference' your work, to compare it with something of a similar genre that you think sounds good, on the same sound system, will will supply loads of clues as to the overall sound , the balance of tone across the entire frequency range, volume , clarity of individual instruments etc . I think this gives me the best clues to my own production , that doesn't actually mean they are any good of course , but it gives me a comparison so that I know that they are at least listenable to a degree.
7. Quality story from the Daily Mail , following on from my entry this month we have a bit of life imitating art http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3373743/Is-planet-Earth-Astro-Tim-apologises-woman-prank-call-dialling-wrong-number-International-Space-Station-Christmas-greeting.html
8. I am happy to spend my money where I like and if a local shop has what I want, seems to be keen to sell me one , lets me browse and try if I want to and generally treats me decently as a customer, I will be happy to spend a little more than I would on-line. If a shop keeper doesn't seem to care whether I am in their premises or not, then I feel no obligation to do any business with him/her. you can sometimes even get that impression with web shopping .
9. Voted , that was a toughie , some fantastic use of synth in that lot , beautiful tunes and sounds quality throughout , well done guys I had to get myself a tally system and whittle the list down each time , strangely mine came out on top each time , but the final 3 was tricky between five of them !
10. Sad to say my first bass was the neighbours snapped neck Hofner violin bass that I acquired at 15 and in my defence, I didnt have much money at 15 and had never heard of a luthier, so my repair using woodscrews to hold the neck on weren't very pretty, they did the job. The'repair' may have destroyed any value in the guitar but I didnt know that the guitar would have had any value back then,
11. Had a blinder on Saturday, it doubled as the drummists 50th party , so we had a very decent audience on top of the very healthy amount of locals . they like us in the pub anyway and this is our normal christmas party . We had 3 new songs in the set and they went down really well, and after the gig we went on to the drummists house for an after show party , great weekend overall .
12. Well my latest composition is called 'fish and cod Roe' and I cant find any other songs of that title , so it can be done If you feel the need to listen to it there is a link in this months composition thread in the recording forums. However , you could wait a day or two then vote for it when the thread pops up
13. The actual deadline is midnight on the 23rd and will be as soon as Skol is able to set up the poll after that , I think there is a small degree of flexibility , but just in case I'm getting in early , lots to do now on the Christmas run in. so if you are feeling brave you could try this one out https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/fish-and-cod-roe

15. some great tunes in the mix so far guys , I have had a listen as mine is just about done , though I am hoping to replace some of my own voicing with a collaborator or two , so I am holding back before uploading it . I am not sure anyone elses input will help this one , it is a touch different , but we will wait and see, there is not actually much music in it !!
16. Well done Skol , and well done everyone else , it was a close call till right at the death .
17.
Most DAWs have a standard setting for dithering, which should be fine - or you can customise your own to taste.
To be honest , I was going to customise the settings last time I used them , then I wasn't so sure , so I left them lone , but having done that, I thought I might try a different setting , but I didn't.
18.
Oh, go on then; it's nearly Christmas ...
Yippee , thats another for the studio wall , I will almost look like I know what I am doing soon Cheers Dad
19. I agree , dost I get thine fine sertificate for being the subject of thy finest review this month :-)
20. Bravo good sir , a splendid selection of reviews showing top form to boot. many thanks again for your insights , they certainly do add an extra level to the challenge.
21. I was at a customers house today and he mentioned he was looking at folk songs on the web as he regularly attends local clubs , so as a laugh I pointed him at my entry this month ................. He only thinks its OK and asked if his outfit could learn it and play it at the club .... gobsmacked isn't even close
22. I think this is one of those 'suck it and see' type answers , it is probably best to try a few positions and have a listen to the results, you can then decide if you have a preference. Probably not much help, sorry
23.
I agree. ... ...
Thanks Douglas
............................ Look at Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan. They got away with rubbish voices. It's all about projecting what you have.
I am with you on that , Bob Dylan particularly , an awful noise , but no-one seemed to notice , an inspiration to me at least
24. Some voices just seem naturally sweet and toneful , that is nice , but add that to the ability of hitting the right notes as well , and it is truly an art . Alas, while I am sure that with enough practice I can get quite close to the notes , my timbre sounds thin , weak and hard to listen to. A good folk BV drone is about all I am good for
