You were champing at the bit to get that one in, right..? I'll plough on, and not let the grass grow under my feet, despite that corny offering. Any other left field comments..? Come on, don't be shy; get it out of your system whilst we're here, you'll feel much better for it. What..? No tractors..? No gates..? Combine harvesters..? Load of bull..? I'm disappointed. A right flock of sheep. Huh..!
Hay, I suppose a quick dig will always crop up , but it amaizes me how quickly you sow the seeds of an idea and reap the rewards .
...............I 'd like suggestions as to how to, on a more than tight budget, get a 'field recording' using 2 mics, preferably with phantom power. Anyone got any success stories..?
Put both mics in the same 'field' as the drums I guess
Liking the donkeys! Chickens are so passe... (how do you do an accent?)
I have to say, I don't know how you picked up that the donkeys had French accent , top marks Well done Douglas, I reckon you have broken new ground with that one , I don't recall actual real drums being recorded for a challenge thus far, excellent .

OK then Lots of singing on this one I am afraid , but I suppose a ballad has to have some words The Ballad of Ed Scheiffelin I hope you enjoy
Just got myself a replacement iMac as the old one is almost 8 years old. Went for a 27" 5k display with an i7 4Ghz processor. Hopefully in the next month or 2 I'll get some decent software. I was thinking about getting Logic Pro X, it looks like a bargain. Any users of it care to share their experience, am I better going for Reaper & buying some VSTis? Once I've gotten my DAW sorted out, I'll be looking at interfaces. Edit: Just realised I've posted this in the wrong thread! See you & your link Lurks!
Ah yes , when given a chance to bring clarity to bear , I have the unerring ability to muddy it slightly
Looks like I'm first out of the blocks with a large slab of dub, just like them thar old timers used to play round the camp fire when there wasn't other cowboys to shoot... Hasn't come out quite as big as it sounded before Soundcloud compression! https://soundcloud.c...d/tombstone-dub
Another one of yours I really like , your voice is definitely sounding awesome on this one , great use of the harp , ties it together really well , excellent starter for ten with that tune . I wouldn't normally listen to others before mine is done, however, the tune is done , but I am now on take 50 or so with the vocal , even Mrs Lurks had a go , that was soooo funny , I have however promised her I won't use it ,
I'll sing it for you...
Lol ..............Oh, and .......still Lol ing You weren't my first choice I have to be totally honest .............

Oh , mine is taking shape , the musicality behind it is just about done , but as this one is going to be a folk ballad now , I think I need a voice that sounds listenable , and as I type this I have had an idea ...............
-
In fairness, I think you can offer as many up as you think we can listen to , but I would suggest identifying 1 piece as your entry to the actual challenge. I know Dad is a bit under the weather at the moment , but if we allowed multiple entries, he would be uploading one every 24hrs , he can be a touch productive when on form .

I popped into the Port Crack Converters this afternoon to see what they had, and spied me a Banjo , however they wanted more for a second hand one than a new one of the same model , and would not talk of offers , so virtual banjo it is , I also had a harp in mind Leonard , and a proper jangley saloon bar piano . That said , it might not come out like that at all , last month was the first time that the finished article sounded something like the idea I had in my head at the start of the process, I was well chuffed with that , but at the minute I think I am just going to keep making a selection of noises till I like the sound of one , then run with it , add too much to it , and add enough finishing touches to hide the lack of quality in both the performance and production

I hope it goes well young Skankster , I guess you upstarts need to grab every chance you can In all fairness , we occasionally do the Chester Charity beer festival , not paid , but free ale all night , proper sound rig and engineer, lights and a crowd of 600 make it a great occasion , I am purely participating in the beverage consumption this year as I missed the invitation ' tweet' , modern communication eh .

So not quite Delaneys Donkey then

I have done my background research , it was very interesting , I am learning a bit every month, Napoleonic wars last month, Tombstone Az and silver mining this month its all very celebral, now, time to reach for the banjo

Well done indeed , superb piece , well done to everyone else as well.

Well done to all involved in the project , it sounds awesome

Our singist doesn't really warm up at all , he has a superb singing voice and has had coaching which brought it on loads , but 2 gigs in a weekend seems him knackered , granted, we do too many songs , but he could take a lot more care of his voice, 5 minutes of lips trems and few lah lah lah's doesn't really count . We do try and plan the set a bit with a few of the less demanding vocals in the first few numbers though , tuneful, but not balls out stuff.
For me it's not so much the voice but the crap lyrics that I can't stand. For a long time I listened almost exclusively to J-Pop/J-Rock, where the lyrics were probably just as awful as those I'd been trying to get away from, but being in a language I mostly didn't understand, I was able to appreciate the singing as just another instrument without the distraction of cringing at the embarrassing words.
I too can find lyrics annoying and sometimes cringeworthy , but that is just as subjective as a dislike of a vocalists tone and often boils down to the genre

Many thanks, on both counts, hopefully we'll have you back on board for next month
-
Wow , lowdown's track is just awesome , a beautiful piece that works brilliantly with the theme, I think you can get a picture ready for next months challenge Garry I will hang on to my photo for now

Hope you get sorted Douglas, I shall miss the reviews , but getting yourself to good health would have a slightly higher priority I suppose

Our last gig rhythm guitar asked if we we too loud, too quiet , too talented with a few giggles but not much else , so he picked on a guy who was nodding his head and made him the 'sound' guy . Anyway as it was a lunch time gig with lots of young kids, the client asked us to turn down a bit , so the 'sound' guy got the blame for the rest of the afternoon , It was funny and helped make the show.

Why do we have to put up with bass bass sound at larger venues?
lurksalot replied to jazzyvee's topic in General Discussion
In answer to the OP , and not intended to be smart in any way , but you don't have to put up with it at all . Just avoid the warehouse/stadium type gigs , you have a much better chance of hearing clarity in the proper theatre size gigs . If it is the music you want to hear then the stadiums seem poor all the time , but if the overall experience is a must, then I guess it is a compromise.
