What Recording software are you using ? I dont know much about the Ableton stuff if you are going down that path . but I guess it is a task of telling the software to use the 2i2 as the input to the track to record from.

I think the pay for a gig has come down a fair bit which often means that duo's, backing tapes , and acoustic sets are more common as it is less faff to a full 4/5 piece band set-up and a better pay day as there are less to share it with .

I can play gutiar reasonably , but I struggle with the guitar

Basically , the likes of EZ drummer have various drum beats , grooves an fills that you can choose to load in to your project , once loaded you can edit what gets played , the timing of it and the velocity( how hard it appears to be hit) , from within a midi chart , where you can draw in extra parts to play or erase parts you want out . it looks a bit odd to start with , but I am sure a 'midi editing 'search in you tube will throw up examples with whichever DAW you choose.

focusrite scarlett 2i2 user here aswell , Reaper user aswell , I don't use a lot of midi , but I have a midi/Usb cable that Reaper recognises . Though EZ drummer is midi I tend to edit existing grooves in reaper rather than compose from scratch , but I don't do complicated !! I started off on a laptop and had no real problems , a few clicky artifacts in the playback were a bit of a pain , but the head phone socket stopped working so I eventually got a proper PC . As I type this I just realised I could use the 2i2 as the Digital-Analogue converter , and still be listening to the lappy if I needed to

WE played a regular pub gig last night , a bit of a strange one all round . the venue was a switch from the landlords other pub because it wasn't 'ready' for us yet , I am not sure what that meant as the place is open and he took it on 2 months ago ! Still lots of late call arounds to let people know we were changing venue , and eventually brought around 25 to the gig. the regulars at the pub quite like us but reckon no one knew we were on or the place would have been much busier . earlier in the week Lead guitar spat his dummy out with an interesting email , so for the first time in just over 4 years we have some hard thinking to do , not really ideal , but if the craic isn't what we thought it was then it needs sorting I suppose

I think on this occasion the general conscensus has been made known , I dont think this needs topic needs any further exploration , if a general trustworthy topic needs raising then that should be the way to continue this discussion . There are plenty of hints and tips in the marketplace to help come to these sort of decisions.
