It is daft isn't it , I have probably read all about this in the last year , books , and seen articles, advice on threads and posts and even on sales blurb for bits of kit , somehow you think you know the stuff , then all of a sudden I pick up on a detail where plugging headphones in to the computer as opposed to the interface makes a difference to what I am hearing and leads to a question I should know the answer to already Even further , I remember commenting that my mixes on soundcloud seemed duller than my reaper mixes , yet that could be simply down to where I plugged my phones in , and again , I might mix through the interface if I have done some recording and then at another time just plug in the computer to work on it later , and every time, my mix is being messed with before It even gets to my ears. I guess sometimes you have to experience things to understand what it means , and the sad thing though is that I only picked up on this by accident . with the phones plugged into interface , I played rendered mix and it was on the computer speakers , so I changed the phones over , I then though that I must be able to send the sounds to the interface to stop having to mess around changing the phones over , yes I found out how to do it , and because It was effectively a switched comparison the difference became obvious. So after messing with this mixing malarkey for nearly 2 years ,I have just reached the first step , and it is raising far more questions than answers

I enjoyed that, only on lappy speakers but the song is great and from what I heard it won't need too much production work .

My fave Motown track , while a bit young to know its release , my elder sister had Motown albums and I recall this on a compilation album that I played to death after an experience of unrequited love in the 3rd year at school As I am so familiar with the song and the name I was quite surprised that he wasn't far more proliferous. RIP

Beatles First US Gig at Washington Coliseum
lurksalot replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
I have sat top level at Shea , scared the sh1t out of me and how the hell you would hear a band with less amplification than most pub bands have nowadays is beyond me . I understood that the scale of those first beatles gigs took everyone by surprise sound wise , the screaming of the crowd pretty much drowned out the best the band could throw at them . -
AAAh my heart bleeds , it wasn't a prayer either ,

Marvelous , so when your vote count comes out on top you have a marvelous and inspirational picture for the (correct ..) seasonal challenge

you flatter me young sir , the lyric is a mere regurgitation of our celebrated family rhyming dictionary , handed down thru generations , many ,many thanks , now I must be off to Jigsawchat , it is a tad quieter over their , but one can have some fun on the missing piece thread especially with some thick card and some felt pens .

Ok , so this is my second bite at the cherry with this , same song re-mixed a bit , new vocal (still me though ) , re- recorded the bass part and mic'd a cab in as well this time, added a freesound file in and now it will do my head in if I spend any more time on it so It is up now It is a touch bottom heavy but is reasonably tight for me anyway as it is supposed to be a dance song I think it should be hope you enjoy https://soundcloud.c...ce-hall-shoop-1

I don't get to listen too much music properly nowadays ;( it tends to be in the van and it also tends to be radio so quality listening is a bit awkward , also just to rub it in , my phone has loads of music on it but I hate using earphones when I am out and about , and getting music on it is a right phaff aswell , as it is synced to an old lappy , but you have given me an idea to try , I can switch the monitors from the interface to the computer headphone out , so I will give that a try to see the difference.

This one has just struck me now that I am rolling my Composition in glitter , as it doesn't polish so well, and I have noticed a big difference in the mix when using (the same) headphones through the interface playback and the onboard soundcard. the onboard sound is bottom heavy , lacking clarity down there and light in the mids , yet the interface sound is pretty sweet , even if I do say so without great authority ! I cant find a way of checking any adjustable tonal adjustments on the computer , so is it fair to assume that the interface version will not be colouring the sound , but the onboard soundcard is ? Any pointers on the issue will be exremely welcome .
Loved the challenge. Learnt some new stuff. Played around with MIDI. And a couple of bods liked my mix. Can't complain life is good
That works for me , apart from the MIDI bit

Sorry to be a pain to those that have commented but I am doing a bit more work on my entry this month , I have been having a really good play with Reaper and have learnt a few more tricks both with recording and production , so I will see if I can polish this t**d just a little , or at least roll it in some glitter

well, what I do is cut the cable and put a UK 3 pin plug on them , spare kettle leads , sorted

NBD (X 2) - Spector Legends 4 & 5 Classic *Audio Clip 2*
lurksalot replied to discreet's topic in Bass Guitars
Welcome to the Spector fold Mark , I love them , I have a legend 4 that I bought many moons ago and kept GASsing for Euro , I ordered one a couple of years ago and got the Euro 4LX 35 TW ,Czeck built , an absolutely beautiful bass to play ,and a stunning level of finish. I am sure you will eventually get to one and you will have the widest smile when you do . -
Ah Shucks Douglas , thank you dude . I have now voted, and listening to all the treatments there is much in all of them that has great merit , maybe a mash between the lot, taking the bits I particularly liked would work , well done all , it is quite amazing listening to the fruits of some peoples imagination , well done all .
I've done another couple since, and have another still on the hob.
I didn't really mean as an entry to hold the space , more as an 'album' filler to pad the gaps out between the good ones
-
Ah Dad , it is your inspirational shooping that made me do it , still, your ears are still free for a continued treat even when watching paint dry , and with any luck it might make it last longer
-
I have had a listen in to the work already in , and I must say gents , absolutely top drawer , I think I will leave mine in as a filler

OK then , I'm in link removed sorry I still cant get to the point where my voice sounds any good and thats a shame because I keep putting more sounds in to disguise it and the tune just started to sound a bit busy , I got it quite good at one point then everything I did made it worse , so lots of backwards engineering , 1 step forward 2 back On the plus side this was great fun to do this month, I tried lots of things and learnt a fair bit doing it , I really enjoyed putting it together and even better , we have just had the fibre put in the village and the upload took less than a minute , stroll on , who'd have thought it . I hope you enjoy it ed to add I have done a bit more work on the production , and will put the new one up shortly sorry all ,

You can try , but you are more intertwined with my entry in this months composition than she is....... as it currently stands .........
Can't be any worse than mine! I've been tempted to get autotune, but for the moment notch filters, reverb and delay will have to suffice...
Oh yes , I am with you all the way , but I have invoked the wrath of 'Reatune' with a fairly heavy attack , so its a full house so far from me , the only trick left is to have it so low in the mix that you can barely hear it , I asked the daughter if she would contribute her beautiful vocal tones , but alas , she says my vocal work so far makes her ears sick and she does not wish to be associated with it
at least you have the bare bones, i have nothing
It amazes me sometimes how something just kicks in and gives me an idea , I don't for one minute suggest it is a good idea , but it's something to work on , and besides , with this challenge I find the journey to be as much of the fun as the destination
..? At least you've got an opening first line..! (... although it might swing better as 'At least you have the bare bones, I have nowt'. Can you pull off the accent, though..? )
Oh , Dad, you are sooooo close , I have tried to put on a fake accent to add a bit of interest to my dire vocal tones , I am not a fan ofy own voice but at least I have disguised it a touch .

Everyones a bit quick off the mark this month I have the bones down , I have even recorded a vocal , but again , I am really hoping to get a visit from someone who can sing to give it a proper shot , even Lurksalittle winced at the suggestion she could contribute , so while it is a little bit poop , it just might have to suffice , I will hang on in hope though . I will listen to the others when I am uploaded , looking forward to it .
