    Steve bought my Geddy Lee off me today - drove all the way up to my place from Nottingham, saving me a drive and shipping. A great, friendly guy to meet, have a cuppa with and sell a bass to! I know you'll enjoy it Steve - I did!

    My Geddy rolls out the door this afternoon and it's new owner prefers the original white plate so I have this black pearloid one left. I had it made by Aurora Project about 3 months ago. It's actually 4 ply black/white/black/black pearl and fitted my Geddy fine and I would assume it would fit other 11 hole pattern basses as well, but we all know how many variants there are...

    It has some very light surface scratches - you have to look extremely closely in the right light, at the right angle, kind of light - so it's virtually as new.

    It cost me £35 if I recall. Yours for £16 posted.

    I was at Jon's today picking up the green Jazz that's on his stock page... now in my spare room.. hee hee.... Anyway Jon was working on your Explorer, and whilst I didn't get to inspect it in minute detail it did look very sweet indeed. The set neck looks an absolute peach of a job, and although I'm not much of an expert in bass builds it's didn't look far off to me.

    That looks very much like your lounge carpet Tom... are you sure you haven't been tempted already :)

    I've not played one of these (P's aren't really my bag), but they have a great reputation for biiiiiiig tone. I do know a guy that uses one and highly rates it.

    Staying with the standard fourths BEADG gives you lots of new fingering options (ooh err missus) and I'd also suggest trying to stick with it FWIW. Bang on with the point about Rhythm Stick - I can't think of a finer example. Turns a tough song in to a doddle(ish).

    This was in my Shuker 5 when I bought it from Jon's stock, but I knew I wasn't really P bass kinda guy and quickly swapped it out for a 40J that I bought off Neepheid. It has no discernable wear and comes with the fitting kit, instructions, box, foam, the lot that came with the 40J - they're the same for both PUPs - so it's essentially brand new and boxed

    £[s]45[/s] [s]35[/s] 30 posted in the UK. I'd post to the EU but would need to check costs - it might be a small supplement (sounds like booking a holiday!)

    I agree with Rich - the modern bow isn't designed to be tensioned by hand. For one thing Baroque bows tended to have a convex curve (where modern bows have a concave curve) and I've not seen the hand tensioning this done with modern bows. There's also a school of thought that you shouldn't touch the face of the hair with your hand because it transfers oils from the skin and can cause the bow to 'skid'. If I were you I'd use your normal technique and concentrate on the stylistic elements of playing Baroque music - slightly staccato and metronomically accurate rhythm.     It was 1983 and my sis, who was studying music at the RNCM and sharing a house with a bass player, bought me Level 42 - Level 42 and Weather Report - Heavy Weather, so for me it was Mark King and Jaco with Love Games and Birdland respecively. I went on to discover Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller, Bernard Edwards and a host of others.

    I've just bought a bass off Tom... what a lovely lovely guy - a true gent. The bass is fab and I had a really enjoyable couple of hours chatting, playing most of his collection :) and drinking tea!

    I sincerely hope we meet again Tom!
