1. Joined a band 3 weeks ago - had first gig last weekend - now guess what happens ????? Just had a phone call from the drummer saying he has to quit (for personal reasons). Its really annoying since the drummer organised the whole band and we used his rehearsal space in his back garden so unless the guitarist ( who is the only other member with everyones contact details ) still wants to pick up the pieces it looks like that ones gone peared shaped ( again ) .......... I dont know why I bother I really dont
2.
Nice shirt but I'll second that the sleeves seem a bit too tight.
Mine fits great but the sleeves are a little tight - but as my arms are so skinny it makes then look bigger I showed Mrs TB who thought that the embrodery said Gasschat - that must be subliminal
3. yah - mine arrived today - will try it on for size tonight !
4.
That is sad that you view someone's success by how much money they earn or their job.
I didnt say how much money they earned But the 2 examples I'm thinking of both people hate their job and have to work long hours as they are so badly paid. Not only that but they are in constant fear of getting the sack as well. Not really a place I want to be TBH
5.
It's not that hard to come by surely?
It is if your a middle aged balding bassist
6. yeah I've met a fair few people like this who musically are average but have somehow convinced themselves that they are going to make it and have left school gotten a crappy job while they play music at night. Fast forward 30 years and they're still doing the same thing. I dont know sometimes I think its a bit sad and a waste of a life but then again who am I to tell people how to live and if its what they want to do and also what other people want to hear then good luck to them . I'm sure there are many examples of people who have slogged for years before "making it"
7. nada yet Hopefully it will turn up soon
8.
We played one of our best I think. Lots of energy and the new songs went down really well. We had great feedback afterwards. I took my new TC Classsic instead of the Orange and the DI was miles better. It sounded great. Very happy with it. Not the huge lumps of volume that the Terror has but it was so much easier to adjust the EQ for the room so that it cut through really well. Got a few 'the bass sounded good' comments so I'm a happy bunny.
Yes thats all well and good but how about the cake - you promised there would be cake
9.
. We must have the most useless, ball achingly sh*t drummer nature gave drum sticks to. The guy is to f***ing crap! ... I am very seriously considering quitting. Singer has already said that if I quit she's going as well. Two reasons to stay, time invested and I'd feel rather bad given the amount of money the guitarist has put in - PA and other stuff.
TBH if the drummer is as bad as you say then it looks like a non starter - you should prob start a seperate thread about this though
10. Right, thanks for the interest, it was certainly an eventful evening Since it was a charity gig to raise money for kid having an operation there were a couple of other things going on. The original idea was that we would play for an hour about 10 O'Clock but due to speechs and the like we didnt get on until 11. Played 6 songs which we managed to make last a hour and there was one member of the audience who was so drunk he kept coming up and hugging the singer and playing air guitar in front of the guitarist but that in itself was no big problem. We took a break and were then went back to play another set, By the end of the second song there was a scuffle in the crowd which very quicky turned into a full scale pub fight. At this point was stopped playing and the guitarist singer saw one of his friends getting punched so he decided to get involved. leaving the rest of us standing there looking like idiots. After 10 minutes of shouting and shoving the crowd was pushed out of the pub and the shutters pulled down where we could here more fighting and glass being smashed outside. Had a drink in the pub then we loaded the cars out back and drove off. So not entirely sure I can say our first gig was sucessful
11.
Why has the guitarist had to change the key of two songs? Why not all of them? Or none of them? Weird...
He just changed it to suit his voice
12.
Bet it turns out to be a hoot, Al! Break a leg mate
thanks - that reminds me how is missus clarky ?
13. So after all the hassles with bands I'm finally getting to play a gig this Sat, its a charity event so its pretty relaxed and we're a 5 piece playing very standard rock covers . So far so good only a few problems ; We've only had 1 full rehearsal, The singer has never sung in public before The guitarist has changed the key to 2 of the songs after the last rehersal, The other guitarist has included a song he wrote which I havent been able to learn because I havent got a recording of it but he assures me we'll wing it . Oh and the drummer has assured me that he'l keep the guitarist under control as at the last gig he was so drunk that he fell asleep half way through the second set. So nothing to worry about then The weird thing it I'm not nervous ( well not yet anyway )
14. I dont actually like either and I'm just here to look cool
15. I have learnt Sweet Home Chicago on my first rehearsal and its one of those songs thats really easy if the rest of the band are good - you just feel the changes and its basic blues in E I thought adding a walking bass bit in the break down always sounds quite good as well. I might have a chord chart or something at home, although I wont be home until about 7 tonight so it might be a bit late. Also if your looking for chord charts on the internet remember several bands have done this and I think there may be small differences ( we did the Clapton version )
16.
and don't forget to turn up to the gig wearing spandex strides, a zebra print sleeveless shirt and loads of eyeliner
Have you been looking at my old band photos
17.
Good news! I give it 'til Thursday
That long - excellent ! As their first gig is booked for the 1st Oct if I got kicked out before that I could get to your gig instead !
18. Cool - although I always go out of my way NOT to meet any band I like just in case they turn out to be idiots Although I'm sure DT are to professional to come across that way
19. After retiring from bass playing in the summer I answered an ad in Gumtree as i was bored and they were local . I passed the audition last night ! Got a small gig in 2 weeks time. Given my past experience I'm sure this will all go pear shaped in a few months Still at least I'm pleased with myself today !
20. Ha ,What an idiot ,I tried reading the scale in bad light ! 9.5 lbs is probably right, I had better check tonight
21. I'm getting rid of some gear so first up we have this bass which I bought this on a whim 2 years ago cos I wanted a ricky copy but I dont need it now. Its basically a sound intrument but please read all the description: The Good I think it looks good and the wood grain really comes through the paint I have had it professionally set up by Chris McIntyre, including inserting a shim in the neck, it does play really well and feels comfortable The Bad It is cheaply made and for some reason the pickup poles were not placed directly over the strings, the effect of this is that it is a bit muffled in a band situation, in addition to this the pickup selector can only really be left in one postion to get a decent sound of it. Its made of pine which does make it a bit heavy, although I've lugged it all over London .According to my kitchen scales it weighs in at 9 1/2 Kg If you shake the neck there is a rattle, which indicates to me that the truss rod is a loose although TBH the neck is straight and I dont want to mess about with it . So there you have it , I paid about £200 for it but TBH I dont think its worth that which is why I'm looking for £ 100 for it. I think this would suit someone who wanted a project bass. Can be picked up in SE London or I can sort out a courier but I'll have to get a price for that Any questions please
22. Hi, Selling this on behalf of my stepson, it was an unwanted gift and as such hasnt been played much. It seems in good nick and its got its original pedals and sticks but it doesnt have the box or the manual ( you can get the manual on the internet) Looking for £ 40 for it , plus whatever the deliver costs are , although you are welcome to pick it up from SE London , or I could get it to you in central London if thats easier. Cant really think of anything else to say about this - if you have any questions please ask Cheers
23.
There are only 12 notes.
There's 24 in jazz
24.
Okay, sorry, I may have misunderstood your original post. When you said: That suggested to me that you'd learned all the songs with your bass tuned to E, then just down-tuned to E flat for the rehearsal and just kept using the same fret positions, so effectively transposing the key of the song down a half step, maybe I've misread that.
Ahh I see what your saying - I think I was wrong then
