Flea does have an amazing technique , his playing includes a lot of different styles and he plays for one of the biggest rock groups in the world So for better or worse he is held up to be a "bass hero" TBH I never really liked RHCP I always thought that everything else about them was a bit second rate and if it wasnt for Flea they would be a very average band

All The Queens Ravens (Clarky); 18th July, Nambucca (Holloway Rd, London)
thunderbird13 replied to Clarky's topic in Gigs
I'll try to make it - just depends on the timings. If you find out what time your on let me know ! -
On the few gigs I've played I always try to make an effort to look into the audience and smile , well it is supposed to be fum ! One trick which I have borrowed from public speakers is to look at the audience mkaing a z with your eyes . looking at the top left of the room straight across, then diagonally down to the left and across again - seems to be sufficient eye contact to make everyone happy

Archway Tavern - Dusk Till Dawn - Any Experiences?
thunderbird13 replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Played there about 3 years ago - nothing special just typical conveyor belt type of band pub. When I played we were told to be there for soundcheck at 6 and the engineer didnt turn up until 7.30 ! -
Actually, two band members have tried to put us on bills already, and they are the two least-reliable people. I said no!
I wonder if thats the problem - perhaps their waiting on the edge too see if something wil take off and if it doens then they havent wasted too much effort

well done - now you will begin to understand " it was the best of times it was the worst of times "

Singer is flat, broaching the subject...
thunderbird13 replied to jaydentaku's topic in General Discussion
Our singing sings flat, bit of a fundamental issue that one...... Given the nature of the band, it is not viable to look elsewhere, this is purely for fun.
Interesting- I'm in the same position , actually the last 2 bands I've been in have been purely for fun and in both cases the singer has been terrible TBH I dont know what to suggest IMHO there are a few choices : Either put up with it and just regard it as fun - which is what I did both times although TBH after a year or so it does begin to get to you a bit Try to do backing vocals to help him out - never an option for me I just cant sing Have it out with him - although I have no idea how to do this tactfully Sorry I cant be of more use - let us know how you get on -
I suppose I would agree that OT has become a bit more argumental over the last few weeks . TBH there have been many times I thought of posting but then really couldnt be bothered in case it got into one of those pointless arguments BUT I'v eseen this all before and it does go in cycles so in a few months I'm sure it will all be a massive love in again
The owners of Spotify have monetized it very nicely thank you at the expense of the artists to the point where their royalty rate is much less than that of the the old selling recordings model.
That is sadly true - BUT I dont think Spotify is going to go away now so we have to look at a way of keeping everyone happy
One problem I have is that when your internet connection is down, you're stuffed.
Actually that did happen to me . I had an audtion for a band , got all their setlist on a spotify playlist , took a day off work on the day of the audition to learn the songs and I couldnt get the bloodly internet to work - ended up trying to learn the songs using my old mobile stream over 3 g which kept stopping I didnt get the audition

I think whats happening with all digital content are that customers are moving more towards an accessibilty model rather than an ownership model. So I'm quite happy to pay £10 a month to spotify and acecss all the music I want to listen to . I have no problem with this although it does mean that if I stop my subscription I lose all my collection ( until I resubscribe of course) . I take no pleasure from owning 500 or 600 cds because to me they are just bits of pastic with no emotional attachement ( vinyl woudl be different) I'm still not sure if the industry has grasped this behavioural change yet - and even if it did I'm not sure how it could "monetize" it

Jakesbass, Jakesbass And Thrice Jakesbass
thunderbird13 replied to jakenewmanbass's topic in Tutors Available
Just had a lesson with Jake and I can only agree with the general sentiments that he is a natural teacher with a gift of making the student feel at ease. I was particularly impressed with both his no nonsense approach and his ability to look at areas of my playing which needed attention. Overall a very positive experience and one which I will endeavour to repeat. -
How to actually write Basslines.....??
thunderbird13 replied to Prime_BASS's topic in General Discussion
Good thread - This is something I've been thinking about for a while now. One question I have is do you aim to create a bassline which, although fits into the song has a seperate and distinct melody and structure to it and could almost be a standalone melody ( I suppose you would call it counterpoint ) or do you write something which blends into the rest of the insturments. -
There is nothing wrong with having a like button per se but IIRC it came up on someones profile rather than on the post , so on the rare occasion anyone liked something I posted it I would look at my profile and see 1 more like. It would be much better if the likes were not linked to the profile but to the post a bit like in The Guardian comment is free - that I believe is the main argument for , to keep the threads tidy not as some public popluarity contest I 've got an awful feeling that I havent explained myself very well
-
I was never that much of a fan of the like button as it did nothing to help my paranoia BTW why is this not in off topic ?

I've got a reasonably accurate transcription from Guitar Pro if you want it pm me your email and I'll send you the pdf

Anytime I mention Basschat I'm met with pretty much the same response as when I tell people I play bass - a slightly puzzled look followed by "why" ?
-
of course it's funny...spesh when you type asschat. oh, the hours fly by !
I often google baschat since my typings quite lazy , the first hit it brings up is Fetal Medecine which I think would be a great idea for a band
