You know that just didn't occur to me?!! It's a tempting option that. Self build I'm probably looking at £5-600 min if going with a fender neck and half decent pickups

I know the Hoppus bass had a p bass neck etc. Perhaps somwhere in between might be nice, tempted to go full jazz?

It's a lovely looking bass! I've a strong preference for the standard jass pickguard and three hole control plate however. The driver is to achieve a bass with the look and feel of a Jazz Bass (minus bridge pickup) but the with sound of a 51 single coil. I'd contemplated a Mark Hoppus bass but prices seem to be climbing, then thought may aswell get an American P, but having previously owned a few and not quite finding the colour combo etc I think I'm going to try this custom build with the single coil as opposed to split etc. Fingers crossed! Just what neck to purchase...

I think I'm going to give them a go! Also I'll have a go at the nitrocellulose paint finish myself. Shoreline a gold here we come

Just by way of an update. Contacted warmoth and the are happy to make what I'm after, just by adding notes in the online order. They have been very helpful! Only thing is I've happened across https://www.guitarbuild.co.uk/ and they appear to do exactly what I'm after. Anyone any experience with these guys?

Ok so my hunt for an American PB has draw a blank currently. Thought I'd investigate building my own bass. I like both JB's and PB's particulary the feel and look of a JB both neck and body but the sound of PB. Well that said the split coil of a PB just seems a tad restrained. Happened across some sound clips of a 51. Sounds like what I'm looking for so got onto the warmoth website. No option for a JB body with a 51 pickup cut? If I'm reading it correctly. Anyone done this or know of someone who has? Seems little info etc

I thought the difference between the ss and valve pre was certainly noticeable, but not for coaxing driven valve sounds etc. I'll keep an eye out for one of these amps as I think, although my abdominal muscles would rejoice if I turned to a class d amp, there's just something I'm missing from them... Not sure why!

Yes I had a trace combo years ago featuring a blendable pre and compressor if I remember correctly. I thought it was a lovely amp but the enclosure was just a little constrained at volume. Recently picked up an old trace 1153, i.e.the smaller ported 1x15, to help get down to the correct ohmage for a peavey alpha bass head I picked up and thought I might look into a trace head for a more gigable option!

Please can anyone advise what version of Trace bass heads featured the blendable solid and valve preamp? And what wattages were available? Thanks

I read that some of the American Deluxe models came in at just shy of 8lbs but I can't seem to find any weight info from fender?

Although I love playing my Musicman Sub it is somewhat of a weighty beast. Are there any lightweight Fender Jazz or Precision models out there? Thinking of putting together a new lightweight gig rig etc. Thanks

I don't suppose anyone one has an idea where I can purchase the plastic, trace elliot stamped, surround to the bass ports they used to use on pretty much every cab and combo? Or is a second hand find the only option now? Thanks

I do get confused with ohms and the like I must confess! Lol your probably right regards an 8x10. Although they are ridiculously cheap at the mo with the new wave of lightweight cabs! Also, even at very low volume there is somthing trouser flapping about being stood in front of a fridge when just practicing

Bill, so in this case I do indeed need a load of 4ohms or lower? i.e. I can't just plug my 8ohm cab into this all valve head (SS rectifier).

Sounds like it might fit the bill for me. I'm a pick player. Like a slightly more driven sound with warm lows and a present twang!

It's not really going to be moved around this cab. Will spend most of its life in my little bedroom studio setup. I could stick a 810 in there and it wouldn't take up anymore space etc. Interesting question about the ohm rating. I might have got myself confused here. Current cabs 8ohm. I've 4 and 2ohm outs on the new, well old Peavey Alpha Bass valve head. Can I run a single 8ohm load into this?

So, I've changed out my studio bass amp. Problem being the new runs a max 4ohm load. It looks like my current 4x10 is going to get the boot, unless I purchase another cab. However, I could probably get my mits on an Ampeg SVT 410 HLF from an old band member. Tiny snag is its not USA made, it Vietnamese. Its not so much the origin of manufacture that I'm concerned with, but the differences between the cabs. I understand the Vietnam one is quite a bit lighter, using poplar ply etc. Has anyone played both or has anyone just got a view on this particular cab? I used to run a USA SVT 210HE & 115 and thought they were great. I seem to remember playing a 410 HLF in a store years ago and it sounding very dark indeed. Any thoughts?

Interesting! In a purely practice situation do you feel you could be heard with a SP212? I wouldn't be expecting miracles etc

Ok I'm not going to lie I'm really drawn to the look of the orange brand aesthetic Those that own one or have experience of playing one can you share? Specifically volume for a loud indie rock band set up in a rehearsal situation? Two guitarists with 30watt vox / 40watt fender combos etc. Also what are they like to move around? I hurt my abdomen a few years back, so the days of single handedly moving heavy cabs is just not an option

Interesting, can you expand a little? Are we taking power rating / sensitivity / frequency response etc?
