  1. Cheers Wazoo,,,, its a good point,,,,, might indeed take some advice and swop the pickups,,,,,,,,, again,,, would like her copper shielded as well,,, and maybe a tort guard?????? early days..............Made a good start anyway ...... cheers...
  2. Fragile Canada,,,,,, love it ,,, turnip......
  3. Guess it wouldnt hurt,,,,,, the band are called "Something Corporate" have a greatest hits out at min..... big in America etc....
  4. Seems there is a lot if interest in the Jazz at the moment,,, and I confess,,Ive been looking for one for some time now.. Now I love my Ibanez, dont get me wrong,,, but a more traditional instrument is really required for current projects,,, and I promised myself to look for a proper Fender... I was looking forward to a looming trip to see freinds in Brighton,,, knowing that the minute I walked into GAK, I would fall in love,,,and would have to have her....finance would no doubt be involved,,,, arguments would ensue,,, I just didnt care.....I had waited long enough... The day before we went, casually wasting half an hour,, I walked into one of our local music shops to avoid the rain while Sharon (my partner finished work) And there she was...................... A USA 97 Jazz,,,,not in perfect condition,, but very good,,, this gal had history,,,,a gigging bass,,,set up like a dream with flats,,, and a pick-up upgrade (EMG) A quick blast through an amp and the shop owner says " one to think about eh sir?" expecting me to hand her back with the customary errrrr do you do trades routine???......I ask the price.......a shade under 500 quid..................er no,, was my reply......Ill take her please......he nearly fainted...... Nervously waiting for the card to be accepted,,, phew,,,,, sale accepted,,,,,, she was mine.... haaaaaa Ill just fetch the case he added,, its a bit beaten up im afraid.....hell yeah,, this case had more american tour and airline stickers than Id ever seen....... Walking back into the house ...Bass in hand,,,, Daughter pipes up,,,,, where did you get that case,,, I love that band !! (Disclaimer,,, nervous this might have been a stolen bass, I have contacted the relevent american band) Ill admit,, not being a Fender expert,,, she did have the odd surprise,,, yes I should have guessed the EMG pick ups were active, and didnt till took the control panel off an a 9volt fell out...... But all in all,,,,Im extremely happy with her..........I took her down to Butlins in Bognor and Minehead and she performed well,,,,,and since has done about ten gigs all good so far,,,,,,In the next couple of weeks she will have gone up to Scotland and back down to Cornwall and will report further,,,,,I have even decided to leave flats on her,,,,,a big change to my usual sound,,, but so easy to play,, and dance floors always seem full,,, so ,, im sticking with them for now.....How the hell she ended up in a backwater of Lincolnshire I guess we will never know,, but chuffed she did....... Any comments,,, thoughts, etc appreciated....Top Regards Toddy.
  5. Its like this,,,,, playing music in front of people is a prevlidge,, and you never know when its going to end,,,,,, so every gig is important... Playing/Touring is a catalyst for your personality,,,, if your unhappy or in a bad place it will make it worse,,, if your up for it,, you will have a great time,,, So its no surprise when you see good acts always take the same faces on tour,,, cos they make it a good experiance...oh and they do have to be able to play,,, but ya know ... This point was made clear to me years ago,,,,and it was bleedin marvelous when I went to a Steve Vai masterclass and found he shares the same view....
  6. Er this isnt gonna be like a question on QI,,, where flashing lights come on and get proved wrong I hope..... No,,,,,, I dont believe they did,,,, the Musician bass was a bit before signature models were popular,,,,,,,bloody heavy an a great bass,,,Sting was using the fretless version ....
  7. Lot of mileage in a quote from Guy Pratt on getting the Pink Flloyd gig,,,, When a thousand geezers can do your job,,you might as well take someone thats a bit of a laugh !!
  8. Bump on me,,,,,,these have a really great sound............used one for years...Thats a bargain ,,,,,in fact wheres my piggy bank gone........

  10. Dude,,,, long shot,, but Ive a 97 USA Jazz with active EMG fitted,,,, if you wanna try it out see what you think and your in the area etc...offers there..
  11. Hell yeah,,course Bass Players boils strings,, makes them zingy again,,, used to do this all the time,,,, cover in water, and boil for couple of mins,, amazingly they conduct heat so well they are almost cold instantly when removed ( disclaimer...... be careful) can add touch of vinegar as well,,, all you are doing is boiling off the dead skin an crap,, but as stated above the effect only works for a while,,,, enough for a couple of gigs tho...used to tell the kids it was their tea!!
  12. Lets Play... 97 USA Fender Jazz with EMG upgrade Ibanez SRX 705 Warwick Streamer Std Ibanez Musician Washburn XB126 All different in many ways......but its the Jazz earning the pennies at the min...
  13. Good thread,,interesting points.... Depends what your playing obviously......if playing original stuff you can do what you like,,,if playing in a covers or tribute band you have two choices,, play whats on the original recording,, or as close as possible,, or re-invent the song into something different...if playing in a tribute its often a plodding route as before mentioned,, but thats a maturity that should come hand in hand with the responsibility of being the bass player.....ive seen a few brilliant players been sent home, off- tour because of poor discipline...saying that,, if you really have something special to offer then you need to find a route for it.....my mate loves three hours of prog rock for example ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
