Another +1 for David Wilson. Top quality professional and a great guy to deal with.

I’ve used them a few times. So far, good prices and quick delivery. I’ve not had any experience of returning goods or dealing with Customer Services.

I love my Berg AE410 but if it didn’t live in my mates garage and get transported to gigs in a van it would be a pain in the backside. It’s not due to the weight, rather that it’s really difficult to squeeze it into the boot of my car. If we didn’t have use of the van I’d be looking for a two (smaller) cab solution.
-
Sorry to hear that @Lozz196. Hopefully after a bit of time off you can find another project that allows you to get all the enjoyment of gigging without such a punishing schedule. 😎

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2019?
gazhowe replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
My best purchase has been a Broughton Audio High + Low Pass Filter pedal, it’s made a real improvement to my live sound. I haven’t made a bad purchase this year, but there’s still plenty of time for that impulse buy that I’ll regret pretty quickly. 😊 -
IME a conflict of dates and priorities will happen sooner or later, either naturally despite everyone’s best efforts or will be manufactured by someone. Best to talk it through with the drummer first and see if he is prepared to compromise and explore options together to keep everybody happy when diary clashes do occur. Good luck! 😎

Anyone here kill a set of strings in one gig?
gazhowe replied to markdavid's topic in General Discussion
I tend to change mine every 4-5 gigs and use other basses when practising and rehearsing. It’s not that the strings sound dead after that time but I do notice a loss of the brightness and sustain I like from fresh strings. I’m using Ernie Ball Slinky’s. -
Thanks @Lozz196, I’ve only just bought my first P bass (Player Series) and like how it sounds but this thread got me wondering if it was worth changing the pickup. You’ve just saved me a few quid. 😎

Can anyone describe the difference in tone between the Fender Custom Shop 62 pickup and the stock pickup in the Fender Player Precision’s please?
-
This ^ and not helped by the production on their later albums. Not sure I could decide on a ‘best’ album but my personal favourites are: 1. Grace Under Pressure 2. Moving Pictures 3. Power Windows

A Korg DT-2 digital tuner from 1987. I don't use it much but it lives in my gig bag and still works.

I went to buy a sandwich last Thursday lunchtime and ended up unexpectedly buying a Fender Player Precision as well. It’s the 3rd time I’ve gone out for lunch and bought a bass without planning to, all from the same shop. Hopefully this one will be a keeper, unlike the other two, but I really need to find a nice sandwich shop further away from PMT Newcastle in future.

Line 6 G30 for me.

Check out the money back guarantee offered by Thomann who have great customer service and are happy for you to try things out and return with no questions asked. You would obviously need to be careful to ensure that the item is returned in pristine condition but it's well worth considering IMHO. https://www.thomann.de/gb/helpdesk_moneyback.html

They look decent. If possible, it would be good to have lights at either side of the stage to ensure good coverage. You could always get those and add a 2nd one later if necessary. 😎
-
That looks decent bang for buck. If it’s placed at the rear of the stage the band will be in silhouette so you will probably also need something to the side and/or slightly in front to illuminate you all. As @taunton-hobbit said, you need to be careful with lasers but class 3R looks like it can be used with minimal risk.

TBH I think you might struggle to light up both the stage and dance floor for that budget. I would prioritise lighting up the band rather than the dance floor if you need to compromise. If i was looking to spend that budget I would go for the LEDJ Q Colour to provide a colour wash for the stage. One on each side of the stage, mounted on stands, would work well and provide ample coverage for a 4m x 3m (and bigger) stage. That would leave a couple of hundred quid to provide effect lighting that could further add to the stage show and also light up the dance floor. There are quite a few Chinese made moving head lights on eBay that offer a lot of functionality for the money. You could probably pick up 5-6 units for the remaining money. I'm assuming that you are using some type of lighting controller to operate your lights via DMX but all of the above can be used with in-built programs without a controller. FWIW, my band uses the following setup: LEDJ Q Colour x 2, LEDJ 7Q5 x 7, ADJ Inno Pocket Spot x 2, Equinox Slender Beam Bar Quad. Airstream DMX controller (via iPad) Gaz

super cheap moving head LED stage lights, anyone?
gazhowe replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
I run all of my lights via DMX (using an ADJ Airstream Bridge and iPad) as I've found that most inbuilt shows would result in the lights pointing in the wrong direction 50% of the time! -

Thanks again @EBS_freak. I've got some moving heads that do beams (2 x ADJ Inno pocket spots and a Equinox slender beam bar quad) so a couple of these will be nice alternative to enable me to vary the effect lighting in our lighting setup. 😎 -

Thanks for that @EBS_freak. Have you tried using it with smoke or haze yet? I'm interested to know whether the output is a fairly well defined beam or more of a wider wash-type effect. -

I’ve not tried them but they appear to offer a lot for what they cost and worth a punt. I’ll be getting a couple (or similar) when I need to replace the floor standing lights we use to light up the drum kit.
