They do, but for whatever reason I just never found playing 4 on a 6 to be as comfortable as playing 4 on a 4...if that makes sense!
Makes perfect sense. I guess it's mainly due to familiarity, although one mans ideal is another mans nightmare. I've played 6ers exclusively for nearly 2 years now. When I pick up a 4 it feels so odd and I'm not at all comfortable moving around the freeboard as I'm so familiar with the 6 now.
-
Just play what's comfy on you, has a feel that suits and tonally does what you need. If it has 4,5,6,7,8,10,12 strings, who cares... If it's comfy for you, that's what counts. I play a 6. In one project I use the full range of the instrument so it makes sense, I also find a wide, flat neck forces my thumb into the correct position and as such my technique has improved massively since I played 6ers. Not to say that will work for everyone, but has for me. My other project does not step outside of the 4 string range except in one number. Beauty is that a 6 still has the same 4 strings as a 4 wether I use them or not! Just get what you love dude, it's the only way.
Thanks pal...any suggestions on the signal chain I have there? Exciting!
Well, if I was given the 3 pedals you used my 1st setup attempt would be Octave-Synth-Envelope, as it sounds as though you are using the synth as a dirt effect and I find high gain effects work better before envelopes, however I run my markbass supersynth after envelope as it has more clarity and keep fuzz/distortion and noose stuff before. Most importantly is how it sounds and I'd say what you have sounds great as it is! Additional modulation should come later though so it modulates the entire complex signal... Shep

I wouldn't start a new thread until someone agrees to arrange it... Or it'll never happen. If I get time I'll look into stuff, bit I'm working 6 days a week at the mo and hardly have time to breathe. If no one else steps up, I'll look into it in a month or two when thing calm down in my world...

Sounds good dude... Got the basics/root of the D&B sound there. Loads of fun to be had Next - Modulation.... Chorus & Trem
Hi all! I've added myself to the basschat forum family so that we may be able to quickly respond to any issues -and of course any positive feedback - you may have encountered with our strings. Email is usually preferable, as I don't get to log on everyday to the . Looking forward to speaking with you soon! Anthony Corona DR Strings
Great to see you on the forum... Maybe you could respond to a few of the quality control issues mentioned in this thread. Also, is there a supply issue at the mo. I have been waiting for a set of Black Beauties (6 string set) from Bass Direct for about a month. Each week Mark apologises for the delays and says he is told they will be delivered this week. I was there 2 weeks ago and he made a call to you (??)/the supplier whilst I was there and heard him told that they were sorry about the delay again, but demand has been huge and they'd be with him that week. 2 weeks have passed and he still hasn't received the delivery. I spoke with Mark again at the weekend and he told me that he had arranged for the set to be sent to me direct this week as he was away from Tuesday and had been 'promised' (again) that they would be going out this week. It's now the end of the week and needless to say, nothing has arrived. Is there a supply issue? If so, in the interest of customer service, I think being honest to the shops stocking the product is a good start. I know things get delayed, but to say 'this week' and still be saying 'this week' into the 5th week later says somethings gone wrong or someone's just fobbing the stockist off... I REALLY want to keep using the strings, but I'm not prepared to wait 'another' week. Hopefully there's some news on supply? Thanks! Shep

Clover bass guitars - Quality?
pantherairsoft replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Bass Guitars
Moved to the right forum. Mark at BD does sell these. They are very nice as well. Build and tone remin me a lot of top end Yamaha's. I played a Clover 6 and it sounded just like my Yammy TRB -
Roscoe - are they worth the money?
pantherairsoft replied to Bassonata's topic in General Discussion
Another good example, Shep, but I need frets ... not selling your latest addition yet then? Yes, I noticed you'd started the 'Roscoe porn' thread. Nice.
Unfortunately the Century Signature is going nowhere... Ever. I got the original spec's confirmed by Gard and the boys and the original cost of that bass is staggering (due to all the shims, veneers and luxury wood upgrades). It is not only the finest instrument I've played, but also the most expensive by a long way. New Fretless on the way as well... By a Roscoe. Don't even question yourself! -
If all the overwaters you've played have been comfy, go with that IMO. I like overwaters, they sound and feels great to me. Not played a W&T but if I was putting down money on a custom I'd pick the one that I've played and consistently liked.
Agreed. Id suggest going to BassDirect for a day (or half day at least) and playing every W&T and Overwater Mark has. He'll be more than happy for you to drink his tea and eat his biscuits for a day, and you'll know what your getting across a broad spectrum of basses. I would suggest everyone does this when they are looking at high end instruments. If you go for a custom W&T, Mark is also the man to speak to in order to get the best price on one... Shep

Mine was ash with a Wenge top. The bite and punch was massive and the low B the best I'd heard... But that much Wenge comes with a 12.6lb price tag. Balance was fine, but the weight meant balance meant nothing...

I've been through the buil process with Overwater. They are very helpful and Chris May is a fantastic man to help vuid you. I was very happy with mine tonally, still one of the best basses I've played for punch and growl, but the weight of mine was an issue and so I sold it on. I've never played another with similar weight though so it was just mine. I'd recommend them. As for W&T - send Mcgraham a PM. He's had a custom done and actually owns two. I'd consider them more tonally diverse than the Overwaters, bit also harder to get to grips with. I'm not an owner though so that's just from my playing with mcgrahams... Shep
