1. Lots of you have heard it already (and a few of you have downloaded it as well!) but to 'celebrate' the fact that my electronica project has got as far as being able to afford to record a 2nd EP (!) we are doing a promo give away of 100 free download copies of our 'Subscapes' EP. Either 'like' us on facebook, 'friend' us on Myspace or 'follow' us on twitter and get in touch via one of them (quick message/email/post) and we'll give you a link and code for a free download of the EP. http://www.facebook.com/ourhelicalmind http://www.myspace.com/ourhelicalmind http://twitter.com/#!/OurHelicalMind New EP recording taking place last weekend of the month - really excited about it! Shep
2. I'm off to Brixton with the wife next week to see them. Can't wait!
3. I played the Steve Bailey Fretless 6 at BassDirect. Weighed a ton! Tonally it wasn't very even, the E-G strings sounded solid, but the B was weak and the top end didn't suit the C. Neck was too chunky for my tastes too - but then I like a very slim 6er neck. Can't of been that bad though as it seems Mark sold it - can't see it on the site now!
4. Thanks to this thread you now know every single bass is the best 6 string bass! So basically take your pick. My vote goes for the Roscoe 'Century' range. I find the 4's & 5's comparative to most high end basses, but the 6's are just jaw dropping. Shep
5. It sounds impressive but the video and voice over reminds me of watching Independance Day - "Don't worry folks the Americans have developed something like no other and we're coming to save you"... I need to find some user based vids etc. I'd never use all the sequencing stuff it does anyway so I may consider seeing if SFX can do something that JUST changes modes...
6. I have seen the midi2. I hate the demo though... It's shot like an action movie. It's advertised like 'The best thing in the world'. I'd like to see a practical demo... That would be much better.
7. Seen them before but never tried it. Would be useful on my Whammy. It would be useful on my Freqbox as well as I change lots of perameters bit I imagine, looking at those pics that it would obstruct getting to other knobs. Think you'd only want to use it on something you change one control on.
8. Pretty damn loud! Played a gig the other night with accoustic guitar, vocal and mic'd Cahon though a PA. I played straight out the amp with no DI. Filled the venue, cut through the mix and volume only up at about 4. Lovely I'd like to compare the 110 to the 112 Neo, but I've read there is such a slight difference it's hardly worth bothering.
9. It's on my list of pedals to keep an eye open for on the 2nd hand Market.
10. For once I'll keep it on a budget and keep my eye on the or sale forums. I own a Groove Regulator which is on my main setup and I do love it! It's a bit too large to fit on this little board though, and maybe a little deep and sunny for what I do. Needs to be sensibly priced and no larger than a Boss/EBS unit. Shep
11.
What no envelope filter in a funk project?
Read the post above! I'm on the lookout for one
12.
Egad Shep, no OC2? I'm shocked. Oh yeah, Sibob, nice dubstep line. Like dat.
Theres plenty of space left for an OC2... To be honest I wouldn't use it much with this project. It's soooooooo NOT Dubstep There's just room for one pedal no bigger than a Boss unit. Either an OC2 or an envelope filter. Or maybe I'll just leave it as is...
13. My current mini rig - EBS HD350 & EBS Neoline 110
14. My mini board - for my acoustic funk trio - Slight change from my usual set up TC Ploytune -> EBS Unichorus -> Subdecay Echobox -> EBS MultiComp Shep
15.
Oh come on people!!! This is a completely sublime instrument, someone buy it!!! I would but for three tiny issues, I havent got the money, the space or the talent for it
Sublime it is! Space - Sell something not as stunningly awesome as this, Talent - That's totally a matter of opinion. I consider myself to be an 'average' bassist. A little time on a 'good quality' 6er and you'll never go back
Hi Shep, all's generally good this way. This sale has gone on far too long everyone, it's a steal at this price
Hey Tom, Glad to hear all is good. Yes, this has gone on far too long, although not as long as my Bassline Universal (which is as rare as hens teeth). If the Bassline does sell, I'm likely to withdraw this beauty and keep her as my spare for gigging. Amazing how many people haven't tried a Roscoe. To me they are up there with the best. Of all the 'Luthier/Boutique' basses I've owned they ooze quality the most. Fretless-wise I really think they are the dogs danglies! Bargain at £1250! Still interested in the few part-ex bits listed in the 1st post. Whilst I will consider offers, £700 (as I was offered today) is just a tad too low! Anyone fancy this bass AND my Bassline Universal, gimme a shout and I'll do you a crazy deal
16. Excellent excellent stuff dude. Really love it!
17. You slept and missed it. The RIM went to Nobody's Prefect as part of the trade with the Stunning Roscoe above. The Spitfire went back to Bernie and the GB Camp where is will find a new owner or become a special show bass... I'm a 2 Roscoe man now and never been happier with my bass tone and feel. GAS free? Where basses and amps ate concerned - YES! For the 1st time in years.
18. Yup! Your amp and cab combination is identical to mine - winning formula for me!
19. As per forum rules, please state an asking price or the thread will be removed. Cheers
20.
That's the difference between a bass player and a bass guitar player, I guess
Agreed!
21. It didn't effect my speaker movement... I'd suspect with a lower power handling cab you'd see results like in the vid.
22. Thumpinator - Recieved from Finbar this morning on loan... Given it a solid 3 hours of drum & bass including A/B'ing my entire setup with and without it. 1st thing I noticed is how little my speakers move anyway, even with huge volume an lots of octave etc. They wibble a little with heavy fuzz, but did so also with the Thumpinator engaged. There appears to be no increase in available volume, no change to click and thump from the attack of the strings and no change in the tightness of the bottom end. Certainly nothing like the Gramma pad achieved. One thing did change though... 1 pedal!? My EHX Bass MicroSynth. Mine is modded to control cutoff via expression. In the heel position you get a big smooth sub. This had always sounded massive, but with the Thumpinator at the end of the chain I had to lower the octave volume as it was moving the drum kit! What ever it does, it tightens up that pedal! Oddly it does not do anything of the sort for the Octave section of my MarkBass Super Synth, nor does it for my OC2. Maybe I should put the overall lack of difference down to the fact that the EBS HD350 & Neo 212 cabs are very good at taming dangerous frequencies and handling an awful lot themselves. The exception being, I assume, that the modded BMS generates some very low frequencies that the Thumpinator was able to help the amp/cab out with. Would I buy one - As it stands no. Take the BMS out of my chain and A/B'ing with & without makes no difference regardless of EQ settings, effects, volume etc. However, it does make the BMS crazy with the sub, which would give me more options for blending it as my 'constant' sub sound. That said it's still pretty monstrous without the Thumpinator. If someone parts with one and wants to sell it for a reasonable price I'd consider it for using at the end of my chain in the rare situations that I have to gig my set up through an amp or cab that may not be as 'capable' as my EBS stuff. Sibob - it's coming your way!
