1. I'm having one... No question.
2.
Oh man, you're bringing tears to my eyes, stop it
I can't mate... Dramatic is my middle name.
3.
We get it, you're a mod.
You may find this hard to believe dude but I'm also a human, a fairly normal guy, a bass player, hard worker, married man, sociable chap and a lot more besides. The fact I'm a 'mod' has little to do with everyone going around in circles and new people joining the fight who can't be bothered to read tue discussion from the start. It's only a matter of time before someone else pipes up with "I can't believe that KS could charge $100 for shipping a pot! What a rip off..." But thanks...
4. I agree this needs dropping now. We have been over the UPS shipping cost about 20 times. That's what it cost. Pick the cheaper option if you prefer. Ken does not have control over UPS's prices. As Ken has stated, the cost is the cost. No one would expect to get a free part for a product they bought2nd hand and that hasn't been made in 10 years or more. Ken has had chance to take on board everyone's feedback and comments regarding his approach to customer service and if he feels he needs to change something about the way he does business then that's up to him. Can I suggest that if people needto clear up a dispute or issue with Ken Smith Basses then they contact Ken directly as he seems a rational man who will always offer at least some solution to any problem that arises. Ill put it to the mod team that this thread be closed IF Ken desires it. Ken? Shep
5. Shall we consider this conversation drawn to a close then...? How many OT posts in a row do we think it needs before it gets relegated from General Bass Discussion to Off Topic At least it's friendly! That said, if I see that drummer at the wrong gig video crop up in anymore threads I may just have a mental breakdown...
6. Thanks dude. Diamond Wood is hit or miss with how it turns out - this is one of the nicest I've seen! I'd love a Rainbow Diamond Wood board on a bass... But I'm not daring enough to take the punt as no one knows what it will look like until it's radius'd and finished! As for being an awesome bassist - I'm not sure about that... But seriously appreciate the comment! Thanks Shep
7. Ha. Cheers bud! No no no. The Roscoe Fretless tone will continue to rock my world... I just don't need 2!
8.
yeah the service is crap.. hes a [comment removed by moderator] too...ive heard some bad things about that man.... 10 pages to find that out?
Whilst some conversation completely off the topic (I'm lookin at you Wayne & Skank ) may do nothing for the thread, comments like this are completely unhelpful and down right rude. Mr Smith has not called you names so please keep the childish school yard name calling to yourself. It's only because I'm happy to be full of Sunday Roast that I've not issued a warning. Shep
9.
And it's a constant struggle not to order a matching fretted model to be its brother or sister!
Do it!
10. Stu, Are you guys still selling strings direct? I emailed Lawrence about 10 days back, then the main Overwater address late last week but have not heard anything... Shep
11. Hi bud, The difference between the Standard & the Custom and Signature lines, other than the exotic wood, is the ergonomic carving of the body and a few tweaks to the shape. It's significant enough that I find my Signiture Fretted comfier than my Custom Fretless. This baby is stunning and plays like no other fretless I've owned to date. I've shifted every single bass I own to just end up with a pair of Roscoes, 1 fretted, 1 fretless. The new fretless will have different pickups to this one as I want to exploit some other tonal regions with Fretless as well. I do Endorse Roscoe as 'Local Hero', this goes as far as I scratch there back and they scratch mine. I'm happy to do this as it promotes me as an artist & I WANT to play there stuff anyway (hell I sold everything else and bought 2 I think they're that good!). This bass will last a life time and I'm confident that whomever plays her will think it's a stunner. If you fancy a trip to Nottingham your welcome to come play her. My door is alway open to Basschatters, wether I'm selling something or not, and many have taken me up on the offer. Shep
12.
As far as that one comment about waiting to get all the costs and not just the UPS at first, my goal was to answer him right away as he did have a problem and seemed concerned. I also said that Postal would be half or less than UPS. That $100 UPS number put him in shock and blinded him from the get go.
I guess in this instance, less haste would of been the preferred option. Thats the point though I think... You can't please everyone. While the OP may be upset, and I prob would be to at first, you felt you met the requirment of the customers enquiry, and even if the customer isn't satisfied, sometimes that's as much as you can do.
I will be glad to answer questions when I can but from what I see here, all I need to do is add Twitter to my contact list and I can change my profession on my tax return as 'Typist'
Don't worry... We don't expect to see you on here everyday. That said we all work full time and can't leave the bloody place alone, so I'll se you tomorrow! Night.
13. Had a few PM's already regarding trade offers. Just to reiterate folks… this is sale only I'm afraid.
14. Anything that does a good 8-bit gated fuzz sound along with an octave pedal should do it… Copilot Orbit, Flying Tomato, WMD Geiger Counter or many other gated fuzz pedals. Make sure its an extreme gate though. Octave before it and your good to go. I think mcgraham has been playing around with an OC2 & Copilot Orbit this week so he'd be the man to ask!
15. Ken, Thanks for signing up and setting the record straight on a few things. I think what's important here is that we identify the fact that Ken has done nothing wrong. He runs his business in a way that he believes to be fair, reasonable & honest. His prices are based on demand and manufacturing costs whilst making adequate profit to sustain the business - this is no different from any other successful company in the world. Now before anyone yells at me disagreeing with this statement, I think it's also fair to say that as the business has sold over 6000 basses and is still going strong, Ken should have little reason to believe that anything is 'going wrong'. Indeed I'm sure if you read every post on Basschat referencing Ken Smith basses you would find 100 'Ken Smith Basses are amazing/gorgeous/stunning/the best in the world' for every 1 post complaining about customer service. I would suggest that Ken's customer service is based on 6000-odd happy customers whom we don't hear from, as opposed to the few that we do. I have never visited the Ken Smith forums but I would be happy to put money on it being full of people like us who think Ken's customer service is stunning. From this hopefully we can learn, that like every human, and every company, sometimes you can get things wrong. Maybe Ken shouldn't have quoted the huge UPS price UNTIL he had the USPS price as well, maybe he should have chosen better words when dealing with customers at times etc etc… I'm sure Ken will go away from this now with some negative feedback to stack up against the thousands of happy customers and hopefully use it to his advantage to highlight the areas that a small percentage of people feel he gets wrong. Ken, would you say this is true/fair? At the same time, Basschat is a community and news travels fast. We do see positive feedback voiced here, but let's be honest - it's the negatives that we see and remember. It’s apparent that a couple of posters here including the OP felt the customer service was a real let down. Ken has explained his actions to date and also tried to rectify and explain each case post by post. Hopefully as a community we can attempt to 'wipe the slate clean' and take a view on Mr Smith's customer service from this point forwards. Ken has already declared that he now handles all emails and communication and takes the comments here seriously, so that paired with our feedback should mean a renewed level of customer service to match the absolutely stunning instruments! I for one would like to see Mr Smith welcomed on Basschat after any 'bad air' has settled as I KNOW he has a huge wealth of information to bring to the table. There was some discussion over Dingwalls a while back, after Sheldon joined us and cleared up a few misconceptions. His posts were informative and he answered questions in a way you'd hope an expert would. Ken, I for one would like you to prove us wrong; going forwards and pop back from time to time (when business permits) as I'm sure many would find your input to discussions here very welcome. Shep P.S. Its 2.49am, I've been gigging and my eyes are so tired I can hardly keep them open - as such please let me off any shocking typos and grammatical errors!
16. Richard bought me EBS TD650. Good communication & no problems. All good! Cheers Shep
17. SOLD Hi folks, This is a beautiful Roscoe Century Standard Fretless 6. Spec : Ash body with enhanced grain 35" 3-piece bolt on Maple neck Diamond Wood board (the nicest I've seen) with aluminium fret markers! Hand carved Graphtec nut 18.3mm string spacing (adjustable bridge though ) Bartolini CB pups and Bartolini 3 band 18v pre amp (with pickup gain trim pot on reverse control cavity) Lightweight Hip-Shot hardware Hip-Shot O-ring knobs (will also include Roscoe originals) Strung with Overwater nickels Schaller strap pins (will include a set of Schaller locks as well) With Roscoe branded hardcase (worth £100!) Super light weight for a 6er - little over 8.5lbs!! Serial number A020 Bass cost £2000 and I am asking [s]£1350 £1200 [/s] SOLD (reduced in value by any of the items listed below offered in trade). Strictly no trades (will consider part ex - see below) and collection preferred, but I'll ship ONLY if Buyer arranges courier collection and takes responsibility for the bass once collected... Offer to ship is there though. Couple of bits I'd be happy for folk to chuck in and I'll reduce the cash price accordingly... TC Polytune Moogerfooger Bass or Midi Murf Moogerfooger Delay EBS Neo 212 or 210 or 110 PA amp (nothing too high spec - for a rehearsal room!) Boss LS-2 Only reason I'm selling is to fund a Century 3006 Custom Fretless which is on it's way. I'm sticking with the Roscoe fretless tone as it's awesome, just getting a more exotic bass A few bass chatters have played this and It's had nothing but compliments. Unless you are already a Roscoe owner that this will likely be the slimmest 6 string neck you have likely played and the feel and balance as well as the even tone of this bass is out of this world. Obviously people are more than welcome to come and try the bass out in Nottingham. Pics - Shep
18. So…. Bass —————————— Amp \ / \ / ——FX——--- / \ / \ Keys ——————————PA Sorry about the drawing! You play bass and keys. If you play bass through FX then keys go straight to the PA, but if you play keys through the FX then the bass goes straight to the amp… yeah? I don't think the LS2 will do what you need. I use one and am pretty sure what was suggested wiill not work. I'd ask Max!
19. I feel your pain dude. My pedalboard was born due to this thread and it's pretty much an entire family now!
20. Did a bass trade with Ville. Mad me feel much better about shipping internationally and had great communication throughout the process. Very happy with the end results. Top bloke. Cheers Shep
21. Very good. I had a play with one last time I was at GB Guitars in Brighton. Some great settings in it and no loss of tone at all. I'd consider it the best compact tremolo pedal I'd tried with a bass.
22. My new one. This is featured above from when it was Ville's… but some new pics here for folks… More pics here! - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...t&p=1261757
23. Latest addition to the (now Roscoe only) family… Roscoe Century Signature 6 Ash Body Koa front & back body & headstock facings Diamondwood nut 5-piece Wenge/Maple/Purple heart wedge neck Birdseye maple board with Koa 12th fret inlay Wenge control cavity cover Custom wood knobs (ash with little Koa tops to match!) Demeter Pre-amp Roscoe Bart pups Ultra light black hardware Pics…
24. I think. Octave, fast trem and a gated fuzz would sound close (and cool) enough.
