It didn't effect my speaker movement... I'd suspect with a lower power handling cab you'd see results like in the vid. -

Thumpinator - Recieved from Finbar this morning on loan... Given it a solid 3 hours of drum & bass including A/B'ing my entire setup with and without it. 1st thing I noticed is how little my speakers move anyway, even with huge volume an lots of octave etc. They wibble a little with heavy fuzz, but did so also with the Thumpinator engaged. There appears to be no increase in available volume, no change to click and thump from the attack of the strings and no change in the tightness of the bottom end. Certainly nothing like the Gramma pad achieved. One thing did change though... 1 pedal!? My EHX Bass MicroSynth. Mine is modded to control cutoff via expression. In the heel position you get a big smooth sub. This had always sounded massive, but with the Thumpinator at the end of the chain I had to lower the octave volume as it was moving the drum kit! What ever it does, it tightens up that pedal! Oddly it does not do anything of the sort for the Octave section of my MarkBass Super Synth, nor does it for my OC2. Maybe I should put the overall lack of difference down to the fact that the EBS HD350 & Neo 212 cabs are very good at taming dangerous frequencies and handling an awful lot themselves. The exception being, I assume, that the modded BMS generates some very low frequencies that the Thumpinator was able to help the amp/cab out with. Would I buy one - As it stands no. Take the BMS out of my chain and A/B'ing with & without makes no difference regardless of EQ settings, effects, volume etc. However, it does make the BMS crazy with the sub, which would give me more options for blending it as my 'constant' sub sound. That said it's still pretty monstrous without the Thumpinator. If someone parts with one and wants to sell it for a reasonable price I'd consider it for using at the end of my chain in the rare situations that I have to gig my set up through an amp or cab that may not be as 'capable' as my EBS stuff. Sibob - it's coming your way! -
You say that like it's a bad thing
Not at all... But as 'most' EUB's ate a little odd looking anyone can get away with it on a stand. Worn on the strap I can see how the die hard traditionalist Fender lovers may find it a little offensive looking!

You would be correct. The most sub is in the main groove... Which is snippet 3 (the longest one). Parallel octave down settings!

Quick snippets from this weeks studio session. These are from a new track for our upcoming 2nd EP. They are awful quality shot from an iPhone, but hopefully your speakers can take it and you can dig the groove… Shep

Nice little board! I'd gig with that. Stick an OC2 on it and it'd be about perfect. I'd recommend George L's to give you a little more space to play with.... -
Top bloke. Bought his HD350. Total gent, down to earth and he knows his biscuits! Cheers dude. Shep
THis bass should have gone ages ago.....
Hey Tom! How's you? Agreed on the above statement! I do however accept there's an awful lot available in the Market place for people to choose from and 6 string fretless is a niche product. This really is a silly price for real professional Luthier built quality though. A stunning instrument. -
I'm not using mine at the moment. If you want to borrow it for a few days I'm cool with that if you cover postage PM me.
PM inbound!
So I am thinking that the Thumpinator and the Auralex Gramma pad would produce the tightest most focus bass sound that I have ever heard or could also be a wast of another £170!!
I use a Gramma pad already. Does wonders on stage floors. Never notice a difference in the rehearsal room, bit use it all the time from force of habit. It certainly doesn't take anything away... BUT, there's a thread for thy else where - so.... Pedalboards... -
Your cabs almost certainly don't properly generate the frequencies that the thumpinator is cutting out. You'd be hard pushed to find a lot of PAs in venues that most of us play that can REALLY handle that kind of frequency properly too. I think if anything it would tighten your sub sound up. YMMV.
Maybe. The theory is great... If it did tighten up the subs then I'd be all for it... I don't want to gamble on it though. If any kind basschatter fancies lending me one for a week shout up!!! -
Nope! Shame. He always answered promptly when I had enquiries regarding my gigrig modular power system. Hey ho.

Had a couple of PM's yesterday - replied to all, but thought it was worth reiterating the answers here... Bass is located in Nottingham and ANYONE is more than welcome to come have a play (If you're thinking of buying or not - always happy to share a cuppa with a basschatter). This has been my main instrument for 18 months and has been used for gigging, recording & rehearsing. Anyone that knows me however will be aware that I am very precious of my gear and I've kept this in the same condition it was purchased in. It's cleaned after every show and is still lovely and shiny! Lastly, as I've done this for basschatters in the past with great success (looking at you dbass & Fryer), I happy to consider payment over 2 or 3 months if this helps people afford things (come try it, if you like it, give me a deposit and I'll pop her in a case never to be touched again until you pay for her). Much cheaper than buying on finance! Shep -

I'm tempted by the Thumpinator as well... But being that my aim is to generate loads of sub from my huge chain I worry that using it before the effects chain will be pointless given how much sub generating stuff comes after, and using it at the end of the chain will effect the sub tones I generate? Shep -
Quality control seems to the big difference. You seem to know what you're getting with the MIA's. With the MIM's you can find some that feel like Squires and others that feel like MIA's. Small things like the hardware arn't a nice, but I found that by trying enough MIM's out you can find a gem!

Yup! Sounds good. OC2 for the win!

For anyone interested in why the front light is blue here's the low down - The Fafner has a known issue with blowing it's little red lightbulbs. The panel that glows basically has the valve behind it, and behind that a glorified outdoor Christmas tree light. As light builds are fragile at the best of times there blow just from taking the amp to gigs and back. Many Fafner users have never had one pop, however most have been through plenty. Contact EBS and they'll own up to the problem and send you a pack of lightbulbs free of charge. I got through 4 in as many months and asked EBS about doing something about it. They mentioned that Bernie Goodfellow of GB Guitars had developed a work around as he was at the time, thier UK distributor. I spoke to Bernie and he mentioned they'd found a way to solder in a couple of bright LED's to the bulb fitting, effectively replacing the need to ever fit a bulb to it again. I took it to him and an hour later hey presto. I picked blue as it fits with the EBS colour scheme. Bernie is no longer the EBS distributor so I imagine he would either not do this anymore, or charge a fair whack to do it as they aren't 'his' business anymore. As such, there aren't many of these 'modded' ones around! BUMP!
