1. Joe, I've been through the custom build process a few time... I'd think about the phrasing of your questions as a few of them can easily be read as the same. I've tried to answer them best I can.
What information did you need to know before going ahead with a custom build? --- That I couldn't find a bass that felt right in my hands off the shelf in a music store, for me that was 50% of the reasoning behind going custom. The other is that by going custom you get a gorgeous instrument that looks perfect to you. If in an ideal world your were having a custom bass built, what information would you want to know before going ahead with the build? --- The price always helps! Make sure you've seen and played examples of the Luthiers work as well, however if your at stage of having a custom build done then I expect your questions about basses have mostly been answered over your experiences of playing basses over the years. What information have you or do you find hard to find on custom bass's and builds? --- Many Luthiers tend to be pants at communication, generally as they are so damn busy. Extracting a final quote is not always easy... Oh, and getting an accurate completion date is almost impossible What Information is important to you before going ahead with a custom build? --- Already answered/same as 2nd question. What questions would you need to ask before going ahead with your build? --- Already answered/same as 2nd question. Would you need information on different designs of bass (such as thru neck to bolt on neck) and the pro's and cons? --- I would imagine that you would of been drawn to one Luthier for one of 2 reasons. Either recommendation or because the instruments look cool. If they offer different ranges then you may want to know the main differences between sounds and functionality, although in most cases it tends to be an astestic thing. Not so much a 'design' thing but this is where you'd ask about pickups and electrics as well as wood choice if trying to achieve a specific sounds. You mention bolt on and thru neck, while there are lots of arguments over this effecting sustain, the general consensus from top Luthiers (at least those I've done builds with) is that its purely a preference and feel thing an effects the instrument sound & sustain in no way what so ever. Thanks for your time and your help. Cheers, Joe.
Make sure you alter those questions. There are basically only 2 questions above if you word them right, then you cabbage more useful questions... Shep
2. Amazing pedal. Outa the box it's damn good. Get it plugged into the PC/mac and spend a bit if time figuring out how the oscillators work and bang... Best all round synth pedal about IMHO. Love mine!
3. As the title says, thinking of taking the plunge into the world of the EUB... If like to have a little tinker on one outside of the music shop setting so wondered if anyone local (Nottingham) had one and fancied lending me an hour of thier time. Anyone with a 5er would be of particular interest as having a 5 would allow me to slot into a set of material I'm currently playing... Shep
4. Few more live ones having just got all the shots back. Really happy with them
5. I play and own only 6ers. I play slap (I'm not great but do play slap) and having played them for a while I'm as fluent at slap on a 6 as I am on or 4 or 5, it about finding what works for you. My 3 basses all have the same scale and string spacing - 35" and 19mm. 19mm I wide on a 6, but it means the transition between a 4 and a 6 feels natural for finger and thumb placement for slap and pop.
6. Hiya and welcome to Basschat from a fellow midlander (Nottingham).
7.
I use a Guyatone Phaser. It's really cool and diddy. To be honest,I don't think True Bypass is as important as some people make out. If it's a decent pedal,it'll usually have a good buffer.
I use the same one (little green one). It's very subtle on bass but doesn't effect the bottoms end at all. I really like it. I did try the EBS DPhaser though the other day and really liked it. It's a little more in your face with some strong resonance etc... But for what I do now I think it would suit me great. If you can find the Guyatone one on eBay etc though it's a stunning buy for the £30-40 they fetch.
8. Me rocking the EBS HD350 & Neo 212 at a gig last weekend! Great rig.
9.
That looks ace shep! This is the only live shot I have of my board. It's not very good
It's a decent shot of you though. Huuuuge stage. Looks proper rock an roll.
10. A good digital SLR and a great eye for it is all you need. Was done with a Canon 500d an a couple of nice lenses... Rose is however, bloody good at what she does.
11. Maybe just the truss rod that needs adjusting. If the bridge saddles are all the way down and it's still high there must be a need alter the relief. As a total newboe I'd recommend taking it for a proper set up. £25 odd quid could be a very good investment.
12. Couple of cool shots from last Fridays gig... All taken by Rose Kasili. That 3rd ones a cracking advert for the Boss NS-2
13. Taken at last Fridays gig with my 2-piece. Pics are great, taken by the talented Miss Rose Kasili..
14. I also cut the VLE filter out completely. I have the same amp head for small gigs and while that suits the fretless honk I find it works against the lowend creating a distorted muddy low mid sound. Try turning VLE down to zero and use the regular EQ to out back in whatnot take out (VPF adds bass and treble but cuts mids). So maybe turn up the bass a little? Shep
15. Hi, Can you let us know string spacing and scale length? Cheers Shep
16. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=120734 All is revealed in peds opening post
17.
Strong words, don't they have moderators on here!!!!
Indeed they do. However if I deleted every post in the two threads discussing this sale that stated the seller, or buyer was anything but a sensible, genuine person there would be no thread left. Language has been 'reasonable' and as the situation looks to be resolving itself now I trust no more harsh words will be thrown around and we can all leave it at that... ... Or we'll break out the whoop-ass!
18. Does this generate send midi clock as well as metronome, so you can listen to a click and have something that received midi run at the same tempo? Shep
19.
Have you got his number? Been looking for a time travelling photographer!
lol… Best fail ever!
How many plugs do you need to power that little lot?
7. I could cut it down to 5 or 6 if spent some money on a few other power supply options, but I have no issues with the 7.
20. Thanks dude. A few sound snips of the effects from last night - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...t&p=1116543 Bear in mind that we're only a 2 piece so if it's not drums then it coming from those pedals...
21. Couple of shots from last night off a mates camera. Had a pro photographer down who had some AWESOME pics of the gear as well which I'll get back [s]last[/s] next week... And from the Audience view
22. Thanks Si, your the man! A few snips from last night that friends took, not stunning, but through decent Hi Fi speakers you get a bit of the sub etc… http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/pant...nt=SAM_1325.mp4 http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/pant...nt=SAM_1326.mp4 http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/pant...nt=SAM_1330.mp4 Shep
23. Si, you are a gentleman and far too kind. Appreciate you coming along as well. The turnout was a little smaller than expected, bit with the 50mph wind outside I'm not that surprised. The reception was stunning and pretty much getting mobbed afterwards by DJ's wanting to do some remix and/or collaboration work made us feel like we did something right. I think the extra studio time put in before hitting the live scene has paid off... Getting that dynamic as a 2 piece without samples or midi has been tough and the material written in the last few months (like the first 2 tracks last night) are clearly a step forwards for us. The promoter tells me the Venue manager wants to book us for more events this year and we have a few things on the boil with some pretty big clubs so fingers crossed. A week today until we hit the studio so next time you see us live Si, bring a few extra quid to buy a CD Shep
24. How was my gig last night (Friday)?... Well... Simply the best gig I've ever played. The sound was amazing, the response was like nothing we've ever had before. I'm off to bed feeling proper chugffed with myself Thanks to Phil.I.stein for popping along as well!
