1. Kemp was definitely playing his Wal... I Sky Plus'd it and have it on my screen! Has it slung over his shoulder as they walk on stage, but starts playing when the band do...
2. Some great basses on this thread. Musicman do the stealth look so well. I do with they'd make a Stingray 6 string though!!!
3. Quick vid from rehearsal on Xmas Eve. Just after set up before we made any real noise. Shows the pedalboard against the rest of the room/rig/drums etc to give you a full idea of the size! Not sure if you'll get any sound as I've just moved house and don't have broadband set up yet so this has been compressed and uploaded to Photobucket via iPhone. 4. Also interested in taking this at that price. If it's still available AND after Wright/Watt (welcome to Basschat by the way) has had 1st refusal, I'd be interested. Any chance of a pic of the actual cab? Shep
5. So tempted. Lovely instrument. Had my eye on the Bassline Universal 5 in the Gallery for a while, but this may be turning my eye...
6. I had one. Loved the tone, but found it didn't track the G or C strings (I play a 6) very well at all. Sounded great everywhere else. Felt like it needed a certain amount of 'bass' in the note to trigger it correctly. Wouldn't track chords at all either. Still remains one of the beat tonal Octavers available though!
7. Have a great time this Christmas everyone. Thanks to all of you for making BassChat so flipping great! Shep
8. Great looking board Simo. Fantastic. How do you find the MXR Noise Gate. I really need to try a noise gate out soon for my monster board...
9.
Thanks Shep! Someone recommended Roscoe to me recently, I'm not so keen on the shape but they have a spec that suits me well. I'll have to look up RIM I've never heard of those!! Does chambering bring up balance issues? I've gotta get me one of those comfort Strapp's just got to work out the length I need lol
Roscoes are stunning. The fretless Roscoes are the best fretless basses I have tried. The shapes arn't all great, but I quite like the Century series (which I have). Chambering only casues issues on balance if the builder doesn't select the neck woods etc to counter act... any Luthier worth his salt will adust wood chices and strap pin position to make it work. Chambering doesn't always save loads of weight, some basses I've felt only save a small amount, maybe 0.2lbs, but it depends on how its done. mcgrahams Wood & Tronics is chambered and it weighs about 6.5lbs or something silly, so it obviously depends on how its done. RIM/Robbie McDade - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=9653 or http://www.rimcustombasses.co.uk/ - Link in my Sig to my RIM Marseer 6. The weight is saved as the body is quite small compared to a regular Jazz size bass. As for the Comfort Strapp, I have the Short one, which I bought as my RIM has high strap pins. It's fine, but I'd prefer it to be an inch or so longer, as such I'm prob going to get the longer one. The Short one really is for guys that wear the bass high (up over your boobs, like Victor Wooten), if thats you, let me know and I'll sell you mine a few quid cheaper than a new one and I'll buy the long. If you dont wear it up real high then go for Long!
10. I recently picked up an EA Wizzy 10. It's very light. Compact, and fits in a special EA backpack so you can carry it with bass in hand to a gig. Handles a low B well. Tilt back option. Comes in under your budget. Perfect:)
11. I can't vouch for the Marleaux, but get the right builder and the right wood and a light 6 string is all good. I only play 6's now really and weight has been a big factor in finding the right bass. My Roscoe Fretless 6 is 9.1lbs and my RIM Marseer 6 is 8.6lbs. Both very light for 35" scale pro instruments (both lighter than an average Fender jazz 4). When Robbie built the RIM I had the option of having it chambered as well which would of made it even lighter!! Since I've been using a Comfort Strapp as well all basses feel about 1lb lighter than they really are! Shep
12.
Very nice dude, I miss the sound of my LittleMark/AguilarGS112 combination, amazing sound for the cash/size etc. Very happy with the little Promethean combo I replaced it with though too. How does the 10" handle the low B? Eude
Very well. I'm yet to gig it, but have cranked up at home and the low B is well defined. It looses some smoothness if I attack the string to hard on the low B, but as a 1x10 that's what I'd expect. It's not EBS... But it is the next best thing I've experienced! Very happy. Shep
13. My new home practice and small gig rig. A step away from EBS, I needed something I could carry and had a solid fat finger tone for acoustic funk gigs. This whole rig fits into a EA backpack and off I go! Damn sight better sounding than most mini practice combo's too... MarkBass LittleMark 250 EA Wizzy 10 Shep
14.
...............you know that is not a bad idea................I will looking for someone soon..............
Where do I send my CV?
15. Had a chat with Bernie this afternoon. A few delay's took place due to the temperature in the spray shop not being suitable for the poly laquer... this has now been sorted, and after a 2nd trip to the spray shop to get the finish exactly as we discussed, the bass is back with Bernie and having the final assembly done as we speak... Bass should be with me as soon as the temperature deems it suitable to be in the back of a couriers van, OR I can find a way to get down to Brighton (If anyone fancies a road trip, let me know!!!). I've been promised a pic later or tomorrow so watch this space
16.
The more recent stuff maybe.... but you can'tt deny the quality of the older EV loaded 'Diesel' cabs ...

Well, they wouldn't be the top of my "to own" list, Cetera...
They were badass though.
17. I have to agree with Dood here... Definately the easiest, cheapest and most effective way of achieving what you want without filling your signal chain with more technology than you can shake a stick at
18. The Ashdown won't give you the grunt of the mini Ampeg, or the same amount of volume, but for the money its an AWESOME amp. Even better would be to buy this one http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=112388 Bargain! I had one for a while. Its light, compact and loud enough for small acoustic gigs or those without a loud drummer or guitarist. One of the best practice room amps about. Shep
19. Mark is a very knowledgable chap who is a pleasure to deal with. I've dealt with Bass Direct on many occasions and I'd never say Mark would deliberately talk over anyone. I'm sure Mark himself will agree that he does get a 'little' passionate about his products when he gets going (which I must add is a good thing!) and he does know a good bass tone. As such he will often point people towards alternate products if he thinks they would be worth you trying before commiting to a large purchase... and he is a fan of those Berg's. Nice to see this has already come to a positive result
20.
I wish I could afford one. Just want the LPF as I'm not entirely getting on with my FM4.
Different beast though. Depends what you use the FM4 for. The Moog LPF can do envelope filter/wah... But IMO not as well as my 3Leaf Groove Regulator. The LPF however, is the swell master... Its key for Super dub and synth tones.
21.
Yeah I am so excited about it. I love the overall simplicity aesthetically. I have always fancied a ramp and the lyminlays seem so cool. Have you heard about them yet? You basically shine a little torch on the side dots and they will illuminate for like half an hour
Yeah Robbie @ RIM is using them going forward. He posted some pics in his build thread recently in the affilates forum. He discovered them just after finishing my Marseer though. Doh. They are pretty funky.
22. Yeah, the bass has an active tone control, the pull control bypasses that and switches the bass to flat EQ'd Passive
23.
A "bank loan" of moogerfoogers.
That wins. I'd like the 12 Stage Phaser as well... But will resist
24. Agh. I've missed out on this 3 times! Lol. Stunning bass. MPG's are fantastic!
25.
With all due respect Mr Cat, someones opinion on how it looks is wholly educated and justified! I wont buy a bass I dont like the looks of. Regardless of whether or not the functionality in some way accounts for it.
+1 to that. Functionality and sound are key, but if an instrument is unattractive then I wouldn't give it 2nd thought. There are lots of instruments out there. Find one that ticks all the boxes. Thankfully I find the 'odd' appearance of Dingwall's to be pretty cool!
