1. I would hope we can pull in more than 9 and a half people and hence bring the price down. Why not start a list on the opening post. If we say Nov 20th as a provisional date, and start a list of those people that would come and be happy to pay in advance. Run the list until the weekend, see how many people have commute and then of we have say 15 people happy to pay in advance we can all paypal you £5 each and book it... Then if you only get 3 names we can prob write it off. Sound good? Put me on the list to get it started...
2.
That is a cracking shot! Looks superb. You seem a little over-energetic with the slapping thumb, though.
Like your trying to slap the bass in half! Lol
3. Final coat of oil on the bass, done with Danish Oil (wonder if it tastes of bacon? ). Bring on the wax...
4. I have 2 on mine as well... Ibanez SR2010ASC Ashula GB Spitfire 4
5. Been playing on a friends Warwick Corvette 4 this afternoon, and while I hate most things about the feel of the actual bass, I realised that slap playing soooo much easier on a 4 string!! I don't really use slap in the stuff I do musically, but love playing around with it at home. Anyone fancy parting with a 4 string Spitfire nice & cheap for me to mess around on?
6.
so am i right in thinking the spalted is going to be stained a colour, then lacquered?? looking absolutely gorgeous btw
It is going to be stained around the edges up to about 2-3" in, effectively like you would do a sunburst, but far more subtle and in a tone that matches the grain on the wood. Then lacquered. Kinda hard to explain the staining but hopefully I'll have a pic within a week which will explain better...
7. I guess because you don't see them in stores etc anywhere in the world. The only way to pic one up and try it is to make a specific journey to Brighton or find someone that already has one. I think if you out a GB in the hands of more people then more people would use them, but being a small company, and one that doesn't really advertise all that much or throw basses at pro musicians that's just not going to happen in a hurry.
8. Nope. He's a small operation at the end of the day. There are a number of players that have credited Bernie like Mark King used to, and like Stuart Clayton still does, but nothing official in terms of endorsement... Everyone pays... Lol.
9. It is looking that way. I was hoping to have one a good month before the other... Simply so I didn't have tobdecide which to pick up and play... Lol
10. Hi Dave, Welcome to Basschat! As a former ARCO rep I also take hearing protection very seriously having had a job selling it to satisfy the HSE in the workplace. Never leave the home without a pair of plugs Hope you enjoy Basschat! Shep
11. Another update from Mr Goodfellow. Bass strung up and apparently plays amazingly! (looks much lighter than last pics due to them being treated with Meths to emulate the lacquered look. This is how it looks 'dry') Headstock facings to be added on Monday, then colour staining, then off to be sprayed on Thursday. Will be set up with Bernies Pickups an Pre, GB Metronome & Tuner and all black hardware (silver bridge in pic is just for the setup).
12. I think I've sold myself on one of these... Will prob have one this week Some great deals out there on the las few in stock. £722, free delivery, money back guarantee if you don't like it... I'd be rude not too... Sound samples - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw3N_S92Wa0...be_gdata_player (Shame about the cheesy voice over).
13. Jamming in my front room today...
14. Its worth checking out. Parking for 40 odd vehicles I'd say and no stairs at all (Providing the function room hasn't moved! :-)). It even has a patio leading off the room for those dirty smokers among you… Don't get your hopes up too much though as we have no idea how much they charge! lol
15. I'm really considering one of these. They are very well priced and while I consider myself a 6 string bass player, it would be nice to have an excuse to play 4 string tuning with a little twist. Its 34", and I have got very used to playing 35"ers, but if I get my mind set into thinking its not 'really' a 6 string I think I can forgive it the extra 1"
16. I know the venue well and its easy to find. Another suggestion from me would be the 'Five Ways'. While it is further out of town, it does have lots of car parking, a separate room to hire which has its own bar, its easy to find as its sat on the roundabout next to the City Hospital & a major (every 10 minutes) bus route from the city stops outside it for those not bringing cabs etc… Shep
17. Stunning dude! Absolutley gorgeous!!! (you might want to edit the title though... )
18. Your best asking Robbie for a quote/price as there are so many options with wood, pickups and preamps... but I'll PM you a ball park.
19. The MPG Level 6 that's up fits all 5 of my criteria for a bass... And it's pretty! Not good
20. There have been 3 basses recently come up that fit all the criteria for a bass worth buying for me (I stick to one set of measurements I know I find comfy and ignore all basses that don't hit all - reduces the amount of basses that induce GAS!). I can't recall there ever being more than one up at once before!
21. No Probs. I was left with a number of patch cables when I went over to using George L's. For some reason I have 5 or 6 of these long 50cm right angle patch leads and I don't recall ever having needed them, let alone buying them! Lol. The cable is good quality and the jacks seems like a typical heavy duty metal jack, seem robust enough for gigging a fair bit. Buying the Neutrik lead obviously means your getting something seriously heavy duty, but if you ain't fussed about the brand than one of my cables has your name on it!
22. 0.5m Neutrik - http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?pro...t=43&page=3 1m Neutrik - http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?pro...t=43&page=3 PM me tomorrow and I'll get you a 10% off discount code (I work for them!) Alternatively I have some just over 50cm with right angled heavy duty jacks. They are not as high quality as Neutrik but are decent AND if right angles are OK you can have one for the cost of postage. Coz I'm nice like that.
23.
I've just tuned into this... oh my word that is going to look amazing! Though I may even prefer the grain on the back of the bass, it is that good. I'd love to see it in a 5 string version, I'm not good enough for a 6 string, nor do I personally want one. But this one looks pretty sweet! Cannot wait till it is finiished, you'll have to post some sound clips on youtube or something so we can hear it too!
Cheers dude. It is turning out to be more stunning than I imagined. Speaking of the lovely grain on the reverse of the bass... If 6 strings are too many there's A lovely 5 string version here - http://www.rimcustombasses.co.uk/pages/gallery.htm (Last bass, bottom right).
