1. Great pic of Mark @ Bassdirct. He needs that on his website
2. Didn't I see this on eBay recently? Impressive work btw!
3. Awesome dude. Ticks all the boxes for me! Shep
4.
Fish (tail) on Friday! Yum!
Oh dear
5. Another coat of oil… Plus the mid frequency selector switch position drilled.
6. Yes I'm playing a gig! Blimey! J Saverio is a Nottingham based Singer/Songwriter and guitarist. Kinda a soft melodic rocky funk (Think Days of the New). We have been good friends for 12 years and had a few musical ventures over the years. This is the 1st gig of his solo material with more than just him as a performer, in an attempt to make everything sound 'bigger & funkier' he's rolled Bass, Percussion and female backing vocals into the mix. We are supporting Garrison and have been told we are playing at 9pm. A rare opportunity to see me actually play a gig, and be totally unrehearsed :-) Hopefully some Nottingham BassChatters can get down. Venue - The Jam Cafe 12 Heathcote Street (Off Hockley - Around the corner from 'Ice Nine') Nottingham NG1 3AA Cheers Shep
7. Dammit. I thought I was GAS free…. I have a rule for basses now. I ONLY play 35" scale, only 18-19mm spacing, only bolt-on and only 6 string. The amount that come up on here that hit all 4 points are almost non-existant (Plenty that tick 3 out of 4)… Damn you!
8. Had one. Loved it. Sold it when times were hard... Regret it! Would love to pick one up again, but whilst they aren't 'high priced' I don't think I'd buy one unless it was a bargain as I doubt I'd get as much use from it as I'd want to. I agree that the frets are so tiny it does get hard to intonate, but the tone is fantastic. Run it with overdrive... My god it sounds awesome!
9. The first coat of oil was applied today... 6/8 coats to go (2 a day) and then onto the wax. Poly finish on the neck coming soon...
10.
Not going to be long for either, is it? I've been following their progress.
No long at all.Robbie due to start oiling the finish today, and Bernie, whilst running behind lie always has waiting for the spray shop to finalise the finish n the GB, so then its just electrics. In theory, a matter of weeks for both. But I'd add a little longer on the GB ;-)
11. Very smart. I never thought to use Audacity for that!!! I shall be comparing GB to RIM when they arrive now! :-)
12.
Ere's a piccie - a bit of blatant self-promotion, but hey honoured to be stood next to a bass god and what a humble and pleasant guy.
I'd hardly call Nigel a Bass God
13. I like that a lot! Wonder if they need a bassist?
14. I use Overwater Lightweight Nickels, and only Overwater Light Weight Nickels. Have used them exclusively for 3 years now having discovered them through playing an Overwater bass. For me they have the best balance of price & quality on the UK Market at the moment. Love 'em!
15. Looks like the stack version of the BG500 combo (which is amazing for it's cost!). I believe these are at Bassday today for people to try for the 1st time.
16. Dean arrived today to collect my TC BG500 combo. Excellent communication since agreeing the deal and even braved Nottinghams sh*te road network to come and collect. Nice bloke. Exactly what you want from a basschatter... Cheers! Shep
17. Can't access it via iPhone Safari, but via my Mac it's fine
18. I get a double-bass-esque tone from my fretless, but rolling to the neck pickup only, boosting the mids a tiny bit and rolling off the bass about 10%, then I pluck the strings around the 12th fret and play only between the 1st and 7th frets (on y 6 string I can get away with not needing to go far down the neck). Te tone is closer to a double bass than my friends Dean Pace is. Its still not a true upright sound, but it does sound more like an upright than a traditional electric fretless.
19. Gorgeous. Unusual to see one with Silver hardware is it not? Does this have the tight 16.5-17mm strif spacing like the current ones, or is it wider? Shep
20. Fair point… On a more Marseer related point, Robbie just has a small fret dressing to do and then the final set up and oiling can begin. This truly is the home straight now! WooHoo!
21. I can understand that! I live my fretless too. I guess I want clear separation between my fretted & fretless basses. I treat them as separate instruments and like the fact the fretted 'doesn't' feel like the fretless. Although I can totally understand the reverse of that and why you love mandolin frets!
22. Mediums. Couldn't give you the exact gauge. I find the concept of Mandolin frets like on your W&T just... Well... Odd. Lol. Jumbo's are also a little over the top for me unless it's on a Jazz.
