1. Broke an E once at a gig… Ironically whilst supporting the band I now actually play bass for. Half way through the 2nd track. I had neither a spare bass or a spare string… But the bassist from Aphemia at the time had a spare which he threw my way and I managed to restring and retune on stage in front of everyone by the end of the track and the bass re-joined by track 3. It was a disaster and looked uber unprofessional… Not something I wish to repeat again!
2. I think for me it has to be between Justin Chancellor (Tool/Peach), and Billy Gould (FNM). Growing up it was about Timmy C and Flea, but my tastes matured when I left my teens. I think Justin is the man… I love the tone, style, use of effects, attitude. Great stuff!
3. Ha... 6 is enough! More than enough.. But this may give me the chance to try something different
4. It was released about 10 mins ago and it is free… and it works perfect! go go go before it stops being free!
5.
Nice board! How do you rate the Enigma? Been looking at them on the net and was pretty keen to get one to try and emulate some of the funky Zender sounds from his Jamiroquai days - can it do that? Mark
Yeah they do look cool from the demo's… Can the Enigma be daisy chained, or is it the old EHX story of needing a Gigrig virtual Battery to do so? Shep
6. 1. Roscoe Century Standard 6 Fretless 2. GB Spitfire 5 3. Overwater Evolution 5. Status Shark II 5 6. Warwick Streamer Stage II 5 In that order. I still own the Roscoe and think I always will Shep
7. TRADED PENDING Hi people, I recently got my hands on this via a part ex/trade deal. Let me start by expressing how fantastic this bass is... Great tonal pallet, not heavy for a 6, lovely neck and very reasonaly priced (Yamaha's current retail is £1075, and this is A LOT of bass for the money)! Perfect bass for anyone into 6 strings. There are a number of dinks in the body, a few near the jack, one on the upper horn, a chip to the side of the headstock and a scrape on behind the bridge where the B string is. As such I would described this as very well gigged, but in fantastic condition for such! The bass has had a full clean in and out, a good lem-oiling of the fretboard, all the knobs replaced with metal ones (original ones included also), strap pins replaced with Schaller style pins (again original ones also included) and the switches cleaned, the back of the neck has been lightly sanded so it is smooth as glass (has a natural wood feel rather than a varnished one) and has just had a brand new set of Overwater Lightweight Nickels added. Action is low with no buzz to my pressure of playing... Only reason I'm trading is that I have 2 custom 6ers on the way and this was to be my stand in fretted until they arrive... I have since found that I'm using fretless for everything, and my Roscoe fits that bill. As such I'm not desperate to get rid but if I get an interesting offer I may give it a shot... Basically I'm using it as my chance to try something new, or it stays. What I'm after... Pretty much consider any bass trades. This is a stand in until my RIM and GB's are finished and I realise I can survive with anything of moderate quality. For the time being I must be a 5 or more stings (although all consider nice luthier or Warwick 4's). Failing that try me. I'm looking for something worth about the same or a little less new (around the 1k mark). Try me Pics... A few pics taken when I set it up (no strings, all cleaned, fret board conditioned)... PM me with any question, offers etc... Shep
8.
Great pic! One of those Roscoes is on my 'to own' list!
Cheers dude! They are fantastic. I never thought I'd use it outside of the funky blues stuff I do, but since I have been using it with my rock band it's been the instrument of choice. Really varied tone for a fretless... And it looks badass...
9. I run roundwound Nickels on both fretted and fretless 6'ers. The combine the right combination of bright and zingy, while not being as harsh as the steel alternatives. I tend to favor a brighter tone, ala my Fafner and GB combo, but tend to roll off a little brightness and replace with a little Bass and Low-Mid for my rock band. With the funkier stuff I do on the side it's nice and bright. And I always use a Gramma Pad to tighten the lows when you push the amp to high volume.
10. I have found that the best 'off the shelf' so to speak 6ers tend to be Roscoes IMHO, The necks just seem to pay themselves… yo may struggle to get one for your price range though. Last time I was at Bass Direct Mark had a nice Clover 6 in for around £1600 if I recall. That played and sounded very TRB to me, with a different, well rounded feel. As its new and under warranty, that may be worth a little peek!
11. Quick update from me. The Rosewood board has arrived (Honduran Rosewood - Robbie can correct me if I'm wrong!). Its pictured on the right of the 3 shown. Enjoy!
12. Big bump… Am open to offers. Would love to sell this over the weekend so I can snag the Octavius Squeezer thats going… Still open to trades. Perfect pedal for the overdrive and fuzz lover to add that extra layer of aggression your fuzz tone when you need it most :-)
13. (Desperately trying to find a way to afford the Octavius Squeezer!!!) -bump-
14.
Don't suppose you have any interest in an EHX Steel Leather? It's very small.
No thanks bud. In effect the Steel Leather is like a low-mid booster anyway! Shep
15. Bump on the Mid Booster & George L's Trades/Part ex on… Envelope Filters Fuzz Pedals But more than anything... A Boss SYB-5! The smaller the better! Happy to put cash your way! Shep This post has been edited by pantherairsoft: May 25 2010, 05:49 PM
16. Pretty cool sounding actually….
17. These are fantastic 6 stringers. I just picked one up as a clean up project to last me until my GB and RIM 6'ers are complete… but I think I'll be keeping it. For the money being asked you will not be disappointed. Truly great basses! For those that don't know, these still appear to exactly the same build spec in the current Yamaha retail catalogue for £1075!!! Buy this now!
18. Blimey! I remember wanting this a year ago! And I still do...
19. I am soooooo gutted that I missed this and my tickets went to waste. So much so that I'm not going to look at this thread again! Glad everyone had a wicked night though!
20. Wicked stuff! Been a while since anyone had the chance to add to this….
21. I still have huge GAS for this bass… have a bump!
22. Hi People, This Saturday in Derby sees the all day Metal-fest 'For Whom The Bell Tolls', at The Old Bell Inn on Sadler Gate In Derby. Its a pretty sweet little venue with a sound man who generally does pretty well. The day starts at 2 and goes on until midnight, being headlined by Metalloid. My band, Aphemia, are expecting to play 3rd or 4th, so at a guess around 4 or 5, but this is a gig so who knows for sure!? There are a few bands playing that I have played with before in the past who are pretty good and the beer prices make it even more appealing… Hope to see you there…
23. Why someone took the time to type all that up I will never know. :-)
24. Latest incarnation of the pedal board… gone all mini! EBS Unichorus Guyatone PS3 Phase Shifter Boss DD-20 Delay TC Electronics Polytune Patched together with George L's, on a Pedal Train Mini, Powered by a Diago Powerstation. Simple, effective, light, etc etc etc
