The DD-20 manual shows you (on page 26) all the different relationships you can set between the tap tempo and the delay time in terms of note lengths. I personally don't have a DD-20, but I've fiddled with one for a good long while and as long as I had the TEMPO thing set to a crotchet (quarter note, call it what you will ) the delay time was equal to the tap tempo. And, of course, you can set it to quavers (two delays per tap) or triplet quavers (three delays per tap). That's the beauty of the beast! Dotted notes are always a good one with delays.
As the man says, You can alter it… quite right. To change between BPM & Delay Time just hold 'TAP' button for 2 seconds. Shep -
Nice. I recently got a DD-20 and i've been struggling a little. Probably because I didn't take the time to learn it with guitar or bass before adding it to my drum pedalboard. Anyway, do you find the tap tempo function OK? Mine reacts ok to differences in tempo of tapping, but the tempo of the delays don't bear much relation to the tempo of the tap.
Hmmm…. I love the pedal, but use the 2 headed tape delay and the Warp setting the most… This was my first Tap Tempo delay pedal so I don't have much to compare to.When using it at rehearsal, if I tap a solid rhythm along with whats being played then start playing it does react in time with the music, but not in the sense of one foot tap per delay so to speak. Almost like the delay is double time to the tap. I do find it easier to get my hear around when you change the display from Milisec's to BPM! Shep -

After the huge clear out, I have stuck with the following… It does all I need, with the only other sounds coming from the Overdrive section of my EBS Fafner head…. TC Electronics Polytune EBS Unichorus Boss DD-20 Delay Patched together with George L's, on a Pedal Train Mini, Powered by a Diago Powerstation. Simple, effective, light, etc etc etc Shep -
Rupert bought some George L's from me. Polite, good communication, paid instantly. Couldn't ask for more! Cheers Bud Shep

I used to play in a band called Salt:Burn, we used to rehearse 3 nights a week, or 3 hours a time, and often slotted a gig in as well. it was a lot, but we were a tight as a ducks arse and as such got some pretty high profile gigs at the time. These days, with Aphemia, I rehearse 1 night a week, on a Wednesday, for 3 hours, which is actually about 2 hours when you take out the amount of gear we have to set up and breakdown. Thats enough, and we are still tight as hell. I'd say once a week is enough time, unless you feel as musicians you need extra work.
I'm pleased to hear things have come together well for you. You do realise, of course, that you will be required to let me test drive each of them at some point
I'm sure that can be arranged... I'd like to give your fretless another go at some point as well... Determined not to let that fretboard all the way to the pickup stuff defeat me -
Awesome I love Robbies work.
Agreed! Very original and very stylised. I'm not a huge fan of traditional really, it takes something really special in a classic shape to appeal to me (although there are the odd ones), but Robbie's stuff just does it for me, and his finishes are always stunning -
Very very pretty!

Cheers guys… I'm happy with the clean up, looks and play's lovely. The string spacing is a little tight for my liking and the neck a little thicker than I'm used to but it sounds bloody lovely, and it will more than do as a temporary measure until these babies are ready later this year.. Determined to have the line up I have been planning for some time of a Fretless and 2 Fretted 6's, there was only really one option for the last choice. I have been a fan of Robbie's work since I first saw the Marseer about 12 months ago. Since then I have ummm'd and ahhh'd over having one made. A few things have worked out well this year and I decided it was time to take the plunge. I am more than happy with my Roscoe 6 Fretless, and with the GB Spitfire 6 inbound, the Marseer was the only choice. I love how different it looks, and am a huge fan of the fish-tail and slotted headstock. I have spent some time discussing this with Robbie, and I'm pretty sure he's bored of my questions, but it seems we have settled on something that suits my needs and that I am very excited about. If you that have not seen a RIM Marseer, they look something like this… http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=458904 and, http://www.rimcustombasses.co.uk/pages/gallery.htm (There are 5 and a 6 string Marseer's in the RIM gallery with the slotted fishtail design). For those of you that have read this far/are interested, here is the spec we are working with… 6 String RIM Marseer Custom 35" scale Maple/Wenge Bolt-on Neck with RIM-style slotted headstock Ebony nut Honduran Rosewood Board (Side dots only) Black Limba Body with RIM-style slotted fish tail & Matching control cavity cover Myrtle Top and matching Headstock Black Hardware (Hipshot O-Ring Knobs, Schaller Strap Locks etc.) and custom fish tail bridge Aguilar OBP3 Pre-amp Delano SBC 6 HE/S Pickups 18.5mm String Spacing All in all its going to be gorgeous. To get it all started, here is the Myrtle top we are running with. Shep.
The MAMMOTHsoundaudio custom Chimaera Feedback Looper; is that just like the BargeConcepts VFB-2?
Hi, Yes in terms of Foot switch config, but not in terms of the control knobs. The Barge Concepts one has a clean and feedback blend. This has a control of how intense the feedback gets, so No feedback, through a little, all the way up to amp-screaming-forhelp-can't-cope-with-it-feedback. Shep

And finally a good set up and new set of Overwater lightweight Nickels… Badass bass cleaned and sorted… DONE!

After a full clean inside and out, replacing the knobs with nice metal ones here are the final results…

There is a new addition to the family! This is effectively a stand-in instrument to last me until my GB and RIM 6 strings are complete. My GB 5 has retrned to GB and so I was left with only the fretless. I picked this up in a 'well used' condition as a fix up/clean up project and to give me something nice to play. I spent an afternoon stripping and cleaning and here are the results… 1st up… Pic of how it was upon arrival (these were not taken by me, I was too excited and got stuck in before taking any!) There are a number of dinks and cracks in the finish which don't bother me too much and some buckle rash on the back, but mainly it was dirt. The fretboard needed a good seeing too and the Neck had some dark patches where the lacquer had been replaced with sweat and grime. I cleaned the neck down but underneath the grime it had eaten away at the Lacquer in certain patches… I got to work with some fine wet & dry, followed by some finishing paper and came up with this… There are still a couple of areas that have less lacquer less than others but the feel is perfectly smooth and slight discolouration in areas really doesn't bother me. It is silky smooth now. Next the fingerboard got an hour of cleaning with lem-oil and scraping out around the frets with cocktail sticks. After a few coats and a good polish here are the results…

Recently obtained a nice, well gigged TRB 1006 from Steve in exchange for some pedals and a little well earned cash. Bass is exactly as described and he kept up to date with shipping and tracking numbers. Great stuff, top bloke to deal with!
That looks lovely - funny how Bernie is now using a lot more spalted and buckeye top woods after having been a might disparaging about the pieces used on my Seis...
Ha. I know what you mean. In fairness though he did mention when I was there that he used to hate Spalted, but has to accept that the general trend now is that they are popular and as such he has to hold his hand up and be more open about using them… people want them so he needs to use them. Told me a story about fighting over a nice Spalted top with another Luthier when they were at a suppliers at the same time. I think thats when he realised he likes them more than he realised :-) I think he is warming to Spalted and Burl secretly, and he seems to accept that times have changed.

i guys, the vocalist/guitarist of my band is a Senior Developer with a large Web Development company here in Nottingham. He may well be interested in taking on some work on the side. If you would like to drop me a PM with specifics and some relevant contact details I will happily pass them over to him this weekend so he can get in touch. I know he a stickler for W3C regulations so everything in XHTML and 100% Validation rate. From what I understand he is efficient in PHP/ASP/JSP & Coldfusion to name but a few…. but they all mean nothing to me so who knows :-) Regards, Shep

Sold him my EBS Octabass. Easy transaction, no hassle at all! Wicked stuff.

Cheers Eude, Yes it should be awesome. I'm pretty damn excited about it all. Bernie has produced some stunningly good Birdseye maple boards over recent times as well. Having had one in my hands when I was down in Brighton there was no doubt about what was going on this bass! Shep

Hi people. This has been in discussion for some time but as I have only just finalised a few more finite details with Bernie I thought now would be a good time to start a build diary, which I will update each time I receive any news from Mr Goodfellow. I have had the intention to go all 6 for a while, and having recently obtained my Roscoe 6 Fretless I knew it was to be the right move. I had fallen into having two 5 strings, one strung B-G and another E-C. It not only meant I was taking 2 instruments out, but also kept confusing my poor brain swapping between layouts... The Roscoe is very comfy and the transition to 6 was surprisingly easy. As such I immediately knew I wanted my GB's sound on the 6 string layout. Not being a huge fan of the Rumour shape, but loving the sound, feel and balance of my Spitfire 5 there was only one option... This is the first 6 string Spitfire Bernie has been asked to make (Although since we started this up he was commissioned to build a 6 string neck thru version as well), after numerous 6 string Rumour's it was only a matter of time before someone asked! I spent a little time at GB Guitars a month or so back trying to find a top that would not only look great but was proportioned right against 6 string pickups and a bridge on it and I feel we have come up with something special… The job sheet looks something like this… 6 String GB Spitfire Custom Spalted Top Lightweight Ash Body 35" scale Birdseye maple neck with matching Birdseye maple fingerboard GB Bass Processor, G-Spot and GB Kick-Drum electronics Black Hardware, O-ring knobs, Schaller Strap Locks etc. We have a little work to do on the neck profile as I aim for a slimmer profile that usual, not too dissimilar to that of my Roscoe Fretless, but that will come in time. As this is the first 6 a few minor changes need to be made to things like the regular head-stock, as such I don't expect this to be a quick project. That said, when Bernie gets stuck into something he tends to work at some pace, so who knows! To get the ball rolling here is the nice bit of Spalted that we picked for the top. The 'Rot' running through the middle is an almost perfect width for 6 string pickups and bridge and they look lovely sat atop it… I think it will work a treat! Enjoy, Shep
