1. Hi guys, Just got back from the Karnivool gig at Rock City. For those of you wondering how Jon runs his effect processing here it is! I had a word with the tour manager and he let me on stage before they packed his board away... There are two rows of pedals at the back, one on top of the other with the switch unit at the front. The bottom row I couldn't get to correctly but there is a Tech 21 XXL Bass edition there
2. Yeah, awesome. I saw this before any treatment was applied. The cut of woo was lovely... But that's something else!!!
3. I played a number of them at bassday last year, and I would put the basses in the top few made basses I'd try. His work is up there with Overwater, Roscoe & GB. I would say it's worth investing in one soon as in a few years his prices will rocket
4. I have a pair of covers from these chaps... http://www.pianocoversonline.co.uk/ Not the cheapest out there, but the service is good and the covers are bomb proof!!! They also have many cab and amp model dimensions preset on the website so if you r lucky that they have done one before you don't need to measure up. They make custom amp bags for lightweight amps as well. Used to have one for a MarkBass head, was a well spent £40 compared to the MarkBass branded one at £90
5.
Haha, yeh could really be interested in a squier as a swap (not really!!)
Squire!? I was thinking a Westfield :-) What sort of stuff do you have in mind 4 string wise? Any particular stuff take your fancy, any certain makes etc?
6. Saw this the first time around and loved it! Really different but Very Very cool. The luthier has a really good reputation as well... I'l nip over to my local guitar shop and pick up a cheap 4 string to trade you for if you don't have a preference on value :-)
7. Stunning instrument. Would look perfect next to my GB Spitfire 5 as well... and I'm only £1499 short :-)
8.
I'm dropping in to Bass Direct to try this bass out later today, already have a 4 string Overwater and was completely blown away
You will be mate, it is a beauty, and has the purest studio sound I've ever heard. I'm pretty confident any fellow basschatters that have already ha the pleasure of playing it will agree completely. It's just too heavy for my weak back when I have to stand and ply for 4 hours...
9. I agree... Black on that would look f'ing awesome
10. Being Mark was kind enough to offer me a lift to this I think I shall be coming along. I am not a W&T owner, but can vouch for Marks pair being Stunning. I'll pop down with my Roscoe & my GB, to meet some other Basschatters if nothing else! Shep
11. I don't know if it's an idea suitable to you but I used to string my 5 ADADG, dropping the B and E strings a full step. Makes changing an octave nice and easy...
12.
Pm earlier. .....
Classic! :-)
13. OK... The EBS combo is vibrating so much I can feel at the other side of the room... Me thinks it's certainly not right! Tis a bit of a let down, but fingers crossed I can sort a timely replacement and all will be well! Update - Exchange all sorted with yet more stunningly quick service from Mark @ Bass Direct. Replacement being delivered early next week. Update 2 - Collection of faulty combo happened today as promised. Yet another nod for Bass Direct's service. Looking forwards to recieving the replacement.
14. You know what. That union jack bass... REALLY does NOT do it for me. It's the missing link in the GB chain in my eyes. All personal taste of course...! Every other GB makes my heart flutter, withou doubt the most beautiful instruments on earth, but just not that one.
15. EBS Session 60 arrived as promised. Lovely little bit of kit, heavy for a little amp, but lighter than most amps! Great range of tones, along with a 'character button' which gives a classic EBS slap sound with boosted highs and lows, plus scooped mids. The Enhanced Filter makes the treble control act as a mid scoop as well. Amazing tone from a little combo and LOUD!!! I do however have one issue with it... there is a very loud hum from it during operation, so much so that you can feel it vibrate when switched on and it audible over your playing at home volumes. Im 99.9% confident this was not there on the amp I tried. I shall investigate further... Pics... Front - Behind the grill - Back - Control panel - Idea of size next to an EBS Neo 115 and my bass-
16. Hi guys, I have been playing with these guys for the last few months, but time has come to commit to one project. I have gone with the project that is a little more 'me'. After talks with these guys I promised I'd spread the word as they are now in need of a bassist. The 2 chaps (guitar/vocal, and drums) are a wicked laugh and very easy going, with there own shared rehearsal space where you can store gear. The room and the band are based in Nottingham city centre area. Genuinely cool pair of guys. The stuff is a rocky, but upbeat alternative mix. It's easy to draw a reference from certain songs to other artists, but not the band as a whole. Stuff I would reference them to having played with them for a while... Eels Presidents of the USA Soulwax Foo Fighters Weezer Future of the Left You get where I'm going. They have loads of material in various forms of completion with a good solid gig's worth of songs that just need a bassist on them now! If that sounds like your bag and you are interested, they have asked me to refer you to http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/ad.php?t=102736 in order for you to get in touch, rather than me posting there contact details around the web! I'd vouch for them without a shadow of a doubt. Shep
17. It unfortunately seems that many basses with a smaller string spacing end up being the expensive ones! I can think of a few with nice tight 17mm spacing, like the Warwick Thumb and most Pedulla basses... On a budget, I would suggest checking out the Ibanez range, they seem to have a mix of either 19mm or 17mm in the standard range (I'm talking non-prestige)... or if you can stretch to it I think the Gary Willis signature is 16mm... which is just silly!
18. It would be rude not to keep hold of the jazz as well... you never know when you might need it... and finding another good example may be harder than expected! Loving the sunburst on this baby... awesome
19.
This is what Im thinking...my views of 'this bass is right for that' have recently been vanquished completely. I am having a good old nose at the Roscoe site, and I MAY...but not certain, combine my need for a 5 string with my want for a fretless. If the Roscoe is that nice to play....it might suit me down to the ground.
If you going to spend that much money, take a day off and go to Bass Direct and try a few out. Each model has it's own feel and because it suits me, doesn't mean it suits you. I've learnt my lesson spending 2k on a bass without being sure. It's worth a days holiday and petrol/train fare to get the right one!
20. New band are Derby based, called Aphemia. Very good at what they do, just going through a few line up changes. They have a website and myspace If you want to give them a listen, although they need updating.
21. Am already eyeing up a vent panel with that though in mind... Have just got back from an audition/rehearsal for a band which looks to be my new proper band!! Woohoo. Love the stuff and have known them for a while due to playing gigs with them a while back. I took the Roscoe fretless, as it was the only bass I had at hand, it's totally not the bass you would usually pick for a metal band, and it had light guage strings... But somehow it worked seriously well, and the string rattle from the de-tuned light strings just added to the sound. They have asked me to join providing I use the fretless 6 Loving this new bass!!
22. Awesome gear, awesome seller, awesome price. Someone snap up a bargain
23.
Ah! I wonder how long it takes to get a non stock item over...hmm. Do Roscoe provide a nice case with their basses?
I believe most of there basses are made to shop order, so prob a few months. I assume when a retailer sells one he would order another to fill it's slot on the wall so to speak. They come with a Roscoe gig bag which is a massively padded case with 'ROSCOE Guitars' Embroidered on it. When I say Passed I mean padded... Both sides as thick as the bass itself made of sponge, covered on the inside with a soft felt...
