*GONE* Overwater Evolution 5 Custom
Whats the weight of this beauty?
Managed to weigh this just now (cheers for bringing the scales round Mark!). It weighs just over 5.5kg, or around 12.2lbs... thats as accurate as I could be with the tools at hand. I've played heavier, but certainly played lighter as well!! -

I wish I had some scales to tell you! Its pretty weighty. I'd say 20% heavier than my GB Spitfire and the Warwick Thumb I had. Chris May at overwater made a comment that it was one of the heaviest he'd produced... I never noticed until i started playing standing more... Sitting you don't notice it. And due to the heavy dense wood the low B is truly astounding! -
Really shouldn't have got rid of that one.....

I recently sold a BO5... The guy got a bargain as it was a beauty (pic's in my gear thread -see my sig-). I actually prefer the feel of the BO's, but where the Thumb sound is concerned I agree... I wish I still had mine as well!!!! -
*cough* *cough* Rumour *cough*
lol lol lol lol If I ever got shot it would have to be trade, only way to get your moneys worth back. A 2.5k instrument could be traded for another, but would never sell for enough to buy a new 1.

Simple design but very nice curves on the body. Looks very comfy to play. Never played a 27 fretter before! One for the list of things to do :-)
If I did that my dear sweet wife has assured me my next album will be titled 'A Castrato Christmas' BB
lol. Awesome. Not for you though obviously.

Buy it, or throw an extra 1k on top and I'll 'consider' selling you my Evolution which is even prettier :-)

On another note, last night was the longest rehearsal I had done with the Overwater... I always knew it was a heavy bass (Chris May said one of the heaviest he'd made due to all the Wenge), but my god I'm feeling it now! Heavy enough for me to consider in the back of my mind trading it for something lighter!!!! I'm sure i'll of gone off that idea by the morning though :-)

I agree completely. In fact with the current project I'm involved in I'm using the EBS a little differently, as a dirty rock amp. Quite a cut to the top end actually. A fat bottom and a little dirt in the mids. The band I'm playing with have an Ampeg SVT-2 available to them as well which I tried last night, and everyone agreed that the Fafner did the fat chunky metal sound better than the Ampeg. No slap, no zing, just fat-ass-metal-balls. The more I use it the more I learn to see how versatile it is, way beyond the pitch that EBS put out for it. I do tweek down the tweeter a little at the mo, as mentioned they are stunning and highly responsive, but the NEO cabs as a whole really fit the metal/rock sound well with there slight emphasis on a gritty bottom end.
I'm really not sure if the EBS rigs give me the sound I like, but Mr Goodfellows basses are certainly growing on me............
The basses are stunning, and the sound is unreal, especially in the top end boost. The EBS stuff seems to handle the top end better, and with no hiss, compared to any other amp I have tried, meaning they compliment the GB basses really well. That said, my Overwater sounds thunderous through the Fafner as well... definitely my bass of choice for rock/metal.

I think it looks fantastic!
GB lovers!... I've just put my 5 string GB spitfire up on the for sale section...go check it out! Dave
Welcome to the forum! Lovely GB you have. Great contrast from the natural wood and the Tort plate!
The TD660 is cool but I'm not sure of the advantages over the TD650 in order to change. Both great amps though!
... Still not as cool as the Fafner though! Should have all my gear back in one place on Saturday so a new group shot is on its way :-)
Is that the lead between the terminal and the voice coil that has detached? When you reattach it, ensure it doesn't twist as it is a flexing part and can fatigue, or worse shift about and touch its neighbour, giving you a dead short (I've dlown a few fuses with one that did that).
Er... I think so... The metal contact has broken and the cable is detached. Looks like a fatigue break on the contact anyway, I assume as it was not soldered correctly during manufacture.
Wimp!
You know it! :-)
Defo. God knows why the original had a bulb in it anyway. Resistor and LED, job done. Plus you can get some really cool colours. Go for blue!
If Bernie gives me the choice of blue, I'll go for blue :-) Promise...
I want a TD660!
Lol...actually, of all the amps, The Fafner really is my Fav :-)
I'm pretty sure i've got a Blue bulb lying about somewhere for the fafner. I changed my original red one for blue when mine blew the first time. I could stick it in the post to you if you want?? Jake
Quite like it in blue... However I have just spoken to Bernie and he is going to modify the head to take LED's instead to avoid more bulbs going. Cheers for the offer though dude, really appreciate it!
Hope you got your soldering iron ready. Undo the two screws on the front of the grill. Pull the grill sideways to release the grill from one side of the cab and then pull the other side of the grill out of the recess on the other side of the cab. Make sure you keep the washer, screw and rubber tubing safe. From there, unscrew all the screws from the speaker. Lift the speaker out. Solder and fix. Put the speaker back in. Replace the screws around the speaker. Put one half of the grill back in the recess and position the rubber tubings in place over the screw holes. Careful push the remaining side of the grill into the recess. Replace the washers and screws. Job done.
A sterling idea! Or... I can do what bernie just suggested and have him do it on Sunday :-) I am unsure about soldering it as the metal contact has actually snapped in two, rather than the cable coming off. Either way, come the weekend it should all be good! Fingers crossed!

By holding my hand inside the the hole inthe back of the cab with my cam and snapping away I managed to find the problem!!! Lucky shot... You can see the little metal plate the cable solders to has snapped as opposed to the solder coming loose...
-
I've taken the back panel off, it doesn't give you much room to move to I have found the issue... excuse the non technical terms! There is a red and black cable that runs from the crossover panel to the speaker and they are camped in with a par if screws. They are fine. From this two screws run two more cable that go down in to the speaker. One of the two (one coming from the red wire's screw) has become disconnected. From what I can feel (as I can't see), they are soldered onto small metal tabs and it feels as though the metal tab has broken off... although it may solder back on...but I assume I have to take the speaker out of the front...?
-
I'm not very experienced with cabs... looking at it, I assume its all accessed from the front and everything pulls out that way. I don't have a meter though...

Hi guys, I took receipt of an EBS Neoline 115 yesterday. I tried it out a week ago in the studio of the same guy I bought my Fafner head from and a well trusted local musician. I was busy yesterday but he was kind enough to offer to deliver for me. I did not get chance to try the speaker until today however as my amp was at the studio until late last night. This morning I plugged in my amp, set it all up, flipped it on... oh! I get hiss and ping from the Tweeter, clearly pushing the top end, and as I adjust the tweeter control on the back of the cab the signal through the tweeter gets louder/quieter as it should... but absolutely nothing through the 15. No movement, no sound etc. No sign of damage etc and I know it worked perfect a week ago. Now, I'm not being ripped off, the chap I bought it from has already agreed to pop over this evening, collect it and give me the cash back. In fact he sounded positively mortified. Issue is I want the cab!! Its pristine condition and has never left the studio since it was bough just under 2 years ago. I have contacted Bernie at GB/EBS and he is going to call me back later, but thought I'd try you guys in case I was missing something... I've tried a number of cable, both speakon and jack to ensure it was not a cable or socket issue... Cheers Shep
