Hi guys, the effects run... Boss TU-2 -> Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive -> Boss Bass Flanger -> Boss Bass Chorus -> EHX Bass Micro Synth -> Boss DD3 Delay The bass is actually Wenge (dark brown with a strong visible grain) rather than black, but the lighting has not shown it well :-) As for rig size... yeah its quite large... cab is the same hight as the bass almost exactly... irony is I don't have a car at all and I'm only 5'4"... yay!

I finally have my dream set up. its taken 6 months of being very poor and working up through a few amps, buying and selling to get what I have but here goes.... Overwater Evolution Custom (Many of you will of seen this a million times in the Overwater Forum here on Bass Chat) MarkBass 106HF (needs some new rubber feet and casters but other wise perfect) MarkBass SA450 Head Pedal Train 2 holding some sexy effects. Right, finally got my first pedal board together, rather than just having some pedals on the floor so to speak... Here it is... Boss TU-2 Tuner -> Ashdown Lomenzo Bass Hyperdrive -> Boss Bass Flanger BF-2B -> Boss Bass Chorus -> EHX Bass Micro Synth XO -> Boss Digital Delay DD-3 All mounted on a Pedaltrain 2, powered by a Diago Power Station (Except for Micro Synth). Kirlin Patch Cables used throughout (with the exception of one, soon to be replaced!) Looking to add a second DD-3 or a DD-6 to the end after having a play with 2 together last week... amazing :-) Cheers guys.

Bought Jason's Mark Bass SA450 and 106HF cab. Have dealt with Jason before as well and bought a Mark Bass 103 Combo. Both times he has delivered, stayed in communication and been a decent guy to deal with. I know he doesn't use the forums a great del, but you can buy with piece of mind! Shep

Hi guys, Having taken a break from it for a while I am now eager to get back out there. I'm 27, have been playing since I was 17, although thee was an 18 month break in the middle. I have done a number of rubbish recordings, but one full album in a pro studio setting back in 2002. I have gigged all over the country and performed in front of audiences from 2 to 2000. I have predominantly played Rock and Metal, with rhythmic feels, but my music tastes are vast and right now I would happily give anything a listen, so surprise me! I'm honest, open and currently using pretty high end gear (Overwater & MarkBass). Being the open person I am though, I do have flows and I with to be honest about them from the outset.... 1. I drive, but do not have my own car. I live in Nottingham city centre, in an apartment without a parking space, so transport is an issue. If you want a bassist that you don't have to pick up for gigs... then I'm not your man! 2. My understanding of music theory is swings and roundabouts.... If you tell me we're in 13/16th's or 7/4 with opposite phrasings then I'm fine and in my element. If you tell me your in the Key of F sharp and playing a diminished chord I will look at you gone out, unplug and go home :-) I play by feel and by working with others until it is nailed. I can be available most evenings/weekends and so am fairly flexible as well as working on Flexi-time at work so getting days off etc is not too hard compared to most, making getting to sound-checks that bit easier. I have been looking at venturing into 6 strings for a while now... and considering many options. My local shop have a rather pretty Aria SB303 6 string in which I have played today. I have done some research into this and found that Aria stopped making them around 3 years ago and there were not many 6's made. One or two independent stores in the UK seem sot have the odd 4 or 5 string going (there is a 4 on ebay at the mo) but the 6's seem to be nowhere... This particular one is quite pretty, Ash body and a stained black ash top and matching head stock, rosewood road with rather nice inlays. ll in all it looks quite 'Luthier' (from a distance!) It actually played quite well. and considering all other 6's I have tired... it was bloody light! A little neck dive but nothing I can't live with. It has an odd 5 position dial for the pickup select which is a bit odd, but does give a good mix of sounds. Overall it had great bottom and mid but the high end was not all that... So maybe some new electronics and strings would be a good call! It is priced in the store at £449, which seems a tad high as from what I can tell the newer replacement to this range can be bought for less than this. The store admitted to me that it has been there for a long long time, they have no idea of Arias last RRP for the bass and are willing to shift on price... for which they will call me on monday... Now I only got to play this through a rather poor Laney 1 x 12 amp in the shop, so I wonder does anyone out there have one/had one, can comment on sound and reliability in relation to the asking price? OK.... Lets give it a go... intended to be as detailed as the first post... in aim of achieving what the thread author set out to achieve... [i][b]Justin Chancellor[/b][/i] Bassist with Tool from the recording and release of there 2nd full length Album 'Ænima' in 1995. Justin remains part of the band at present. [u]A little bit of back ground[/u] - Justin was born November 19th, 1971. He grew up in the UK, of English and Norweigen descent, and formed part of the prgressive rock band 'Peach' (He met Tool after Peach were given an opening spot on tool 'Undertow' tour), before finally settling in the US of A and joining Tool after the departure of bassist 'Paul D.amour'. [u]Basses[/u] - Justin’s plays a Wal 4-string, which has a mahogany body, bird’s-eye-maple top, maple neck, and Indian rosewood fingerboard. He had Wal make another one just like it in the event of an emergency. He also uses a greenburst Wal as well as a forth Wal Mark III bass (Fretless) with a different body shape. For many years Justin has stuck with Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky strings (.045, .065, .085, .110) and Clayton 1mm picks. In the early days of his career with Tool he was seen live with Both Musicman Stingrays, and a Gibson Thunderbird, both of which have not made a live appearance since 1996, with Justin stating that he plays nothing but Wal now. [u]Rig[/u] - To begin with Chancellor was very much a Mesa Boogie man with all his recording and live equipment coming from Boogie. His first few tours with Tool saw him using Mesa Road ready 8x10 cabs as well as a range of other Boogie equipment (M-2000, M-Pulse, Bass 400+). Since 2001's 'Lateralus' recording and release Justin made a few changes to his rig set up. He still uses Mesa Road ready 8x10's for his clean rig, but favours Mesa Road ready 4x12's for his 'dirty' sound. He has also swapped out the Mesa heads and now exclusively uses the Gallien Kruger 2001RB, of which he runs 2 side by side (one for clean and one for dirty). Justin runs three channels all the time. The first comes straight off the XLR output of his Wal bass into a Demeter VTBP-201-DBL preamp (currently available as the Demeter VTBP-201-S), which serves as the clean direct signal and never touches anything else in the massive signal path. Channel 2 is the “clean” rig; Justin’s signal goes out of the splitter and straight into one of the two G-K 2001RB heads and into the Mesa 8x10. Channel 3 is “dirty”; the signal passes through a ProCo TurboRAT distortion and one last EQ before going to the other G-K head and a Mesa 4x12 cab. The overall rig is a blend of these two miked cabs, adjusted for desired levels of clean and dirty, with the clean direct running in the background at all times. To help explain the live set up I have included the following diagram.. [u]Style and Sound[/u] - Chancellors sounds is quite a unique kettle of fish, drawing upon many Guitar techniques and favouring the use of a pick. He use harmonics throughout his lines and the extensive use of chorus and delay in the music creates a dark sinister sound, while still holding a sold groove. Tool utilise timing shifts constantly and Chancellor's counter part in rhythm 'Danny Carey' often works with Justin to create a real push and pull feel through syncopated structures and poly rhythms. Both Justin and Tool Guitarist Adam Jones are openly Anal about the sound they try to create. Chancellor is reported to mark out positions on the stage floor during sound checks, to indicate specific positions to stand in order to creat feedback in a particular way and is known on average to pull 3 hours worth of sound checking for the bass before a live show... I use something which I doubt many others do. You would have to fish around eBay to find one though but I doubt it would cost you much! DOD Ice Box Stereo Chorus (FX64). It was made for guitar but worked a million times better on the bass. Cost me £40 new about 6 years ago. Still works perfect and sounds stunning!!!!

C[/quote] +1 to what Mr Pidgeon said! I use the 3x10 combo and love it. Since I have had the Overwater I tend to let the bass do the work, keep the EQ flat and the Filters between 7 and 9. When I used the Yamaha, the VPF was off completely and a slight tweek to the high-mid setting to get it to cut through. I have to echo everyone though in that a single 12" is never going to cut in aloud band situation. The 3x10 does it quote well, but I gigged before with a 2x10 and couldn't hear a thing, even with the same EQ settings. Shep
