Up for grabs is a Focusrite VRM Box. This is basically a speaker/monitor and room environment simulator, allowing you to use your headphones to much greater effect when mixing audio. It's actually a fairly impressive bit of kit and when matched with some good monitor headphones the results are pretty awesome. Asking £35 posted in the UK. Good condition (light surface marks), boxed, all software, manuals etc included. Try every order. Stick with the one that gives you the best combination of sounds (eg, YOU prefer Octave into Dirt, or Dirt in Octave). The only right way is the way that sounds best. Whatever the general consensus is, it's wrong!! It's your gear, and it has to sound killer to YOU! As you have so few pedals in the setup there's no excuse to not try all the possible combinations. GO!

If you are playing into a Laptop anyway, and using filters on the laptop then I'm not sure you need to worry about other plugins. Stick with your OC-2 and get a decent plugin designed to turn bass into BASS. Something like Renaissance Bass form 'Waves'. I have it and use it on Kick drums and synth bass when I make electronic music as it sounds decking huge. If you are processing via software then I see no reason to do this over changing the pedals at your feet.

The Aguilar Octamizer is very good for subs as it has the filter built in, and isn't huge enough to destroy your amp. The Density Hulk is also killer, but I don't recommend sending it to your amp/cab as to get it at volume it puts mega strain on your gear. If you play shows without PA support, then the Aggie is my weapon of choice.

Bought a pedal from Ian, top guy, easy to deal with and great communication. Cheers Shep

Hey, sorry for the late reply! Mad weekend. Width at the nut is 47-48mm (I don't have a caliper for precision measurements), so roughly the same as your wider one! I find it very comfortable for a 5 string. Actually fairly narrow compared to other 5's I've owened and used!
That means we will get three extra full size rigs into the space that would have been taken up by Shep's pedalboard Only jokjing mate, would have been nice to have said hi to you again, been a while.
It has been ages! I'm fairly confident that this will not be last local meet up though!

I'll have to measure the nut width this evening and let you know! I'm not sure off of the top of my head. It's quite slim. I went with 18mm string spacing, but the neck is very slim. I will check and let you know. A friend has a pair of Wood & Tronics 33". They play very nice and were what turned my eye to shorter scales. I made a point of trying out as many as I could and when I was on holiday in Germany I visited Musicstore.de in Cologne, which is huge. They had some stuff from local luthiers in and they had 2 basses that were 32" from LeFay - http://www.lefay.de/english/bass_singer6_32inch.html . The neck scale just felt so right for me. I'm a short guy with limited reach and playing a 35" scale involves my arm being fully extended to reach the 1st fret. I had developed some shoulder and hip issues from playing basses for a long time that were just too large for me and had a year of chiropractic work to get myself tip top again (and it helped). Picking up the 32" was instantly noticeable compared to the 33"s and I placed the order with Roscoe the week after (I already had 3 Roscoe's and am listed as a local endorsee on the website, so I went straight to them for it).
Wow, thanks for the info everyone, some nice medium scalers here I can see! Very nice. I love my Roscoes. Mine are sans mags with Richard McLish RMC Midi systems. Wondering when Keith made yours? As far as I know, I was the first medium scaler in 1999, with my second one a year or two later. Roscoe-1.png And my buckeye burl: Roscoe-2.png Yeah, the Roscoe's are more than amazing. Keith is certainly one of my heros in the bass world. He also finished my Viola bass for me - which I designed and had built: V-Bass.png I am not sure how to post photos yet to this forum. I did a search on the help files to no avail. On most forums in the US you simply copy in the photo web address and paste it here with some code in front of it and after it - and the photo magically appears. No such luck here though apparently. Any advice for the newbie on the photo front is much appreciated! Cheers, BassHappy
Hey dude! I am well aware of your MIDI enabled 32" Roscoes. In fact they were referenced when I bought up a 32" scale with Gard. Mine is a recent one, born in 2012! Though I understand there have been very few 32" made between mine and yours. As for photos, most people upload to an external site such as Photobucket (what I use) or Flickr, and just copy the 'IMG' code that site gives you into your post on any other site to show the pic. It works on basically every forum out there so I never need to upload images directly to forums. Hope that helps.

Very sorry guys, but I am not going to make it to the event. I'm not going to be away with work over that weekend making it impossible for me to get. Bad timing. My apologies. Take me off the next list that gets published.

My Roscoe LG Signature is a 32". Obviously that means the custom build route, but since buying it I've sold every other bass that I owned. I am a one bass man these days and can't imagine playing much else! Some more effects goodness for you??? PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass May I present Jamie Stillman, the main man behind EarthQuaker Devices! Jamie was awesome enough to spare me a little time to answer my questions about his background, his pedals, and EarthQuaker as a company. Check out what he had to say! -
It's an analogue Octaver and built in a fairly old school way. It needs very clean and tidy finger technique as it's monophonic, so even gently brushing your finger on another string while playing 'can' confuse the tracking. Also, top end will mess it up as the additional harmonics in the signal can confuse it. Try rolling to the bridge pickup and see if that helps. FWIW, in my experience, putting a compressor before it does absolutely nothing, certainly not with my technique, and then you have the issue that your compression is at the start of the chain, which may not suit the rest of your set up (assuming you put the compressor there for a reason). Typically when using a monophonic octave pedal you have to learn to 'play the pedal' as opposed to treating it like something that will effect what you do. Shep
I tend to ruin them with a marker pen then struggle like buggary to sell them on lol.
This works too!

Great idea. Here's a review of Pedal Labels I did a while ago - Similar concept, though a little larger than yours: http://sheponbass.co.uk/blog/review-pedal-labels - Still a cool product! Marking a default position is super useful, especially for those who are on-stage knob tweakers and need to fall back to the default position when they have done.

I'll bring my Roscoe LG V Signature, far too many effects pedals and pending on the transport arrangements my Barefaced/EBS rig. Can't promise the rig will come along though I'm afraid.

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
pantherairsoft replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
I realised today that the amount of pedals I've had to sell over the last 6 months is unacceptable! Plus, I have waaaaay too many out on loan with people! That said, it's time to put a new board together for 2014! This is what's currently at hand... Watch this space! -
That's great thanks Paul. I'm just little concerned about the Enigma/Bass Wah relationship. The Enigma has an 'expression out' line on the same side as the input. Does this automatically mean you put the wah before it? When I tried that, there was no sound at all coming from the output...
The location of the socket for expression is only relevant to where it wold fit on the PCB and nothing to do with its relation to the input of output. Shep

New year, new interview! Time to get back onto this!!! PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass I'd like to introduce you to the dudes behind the very awesome Mantic Conceptual - L. Ray & C. Fredi! Mantic Conceptual, while still pretty new to the boutique effects world, have been making some real noise of late! Their rugged, industrial looking pedals have started appearing on the boards of some big names and the who's who of pedal users - Juan Alderete, Jonathan Hischkte, and Nick Reinhart to name but a few. Check out what the boys had to say!
