The XLS is crowns 'Budget' amp, when compared to the XTi range (which you will hear many more positive comments about). The XLS amps are fine, but should only be compared to other lower range amps IMO. They are expensive for an entry level amp though as they are better than many cheaper ones and you pay a little on top for the name. The Peavey is highly regarded as it is very well made and reliable - In performance terms it seems that the IPR is more comparable to the XTi range according to feedback online (though not as feature packed).

Those Amongst Us Are Wolves suppt. Nordic Giants, Nottingham 4th Oct

Saw you boys the last time you were here in Notts. Good stuff! -
PN-2 for the win. The tremolos on the Eventide ModFactor and the Line6 M series (particularly the 'Panner' setting) are also very good.

I don't think it exists. I can't imagine it having enough of an audience for a manufacturer to make one. A mod or custom is the way - maybe mod one with a jack input to add a momentary switch alongside the onboard foot switch?

"best" Audio Interface 2nd hand for under £100?
pantherairsoft replied to skidder652003's topic in Recording
I have to say that 51m0n knows his stuff. He has recently helped direct me quite a bit on a similar search. My budget, like yours, started pretty small but after trying stuff out I opted to sell off a pile of instruments and other stuff to raise the funds for something that will last a lifetime. Simon has pretty much covered all the main contenders, but I'd like to add that I have made a point to try most of these out in some capacity over the last few weeks but contacting people and studios who have them. I thought the extra legwork was worth the effort and most studios seem very open to showing off their gear for 20 mins. At the cheap end, most people seem to opt for the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, while is has some impressive features for such a small package, it's preamps are pretty rubbish IMO. Sound wise, in the cheap range nothing came close in sound quality to the Mackie Onyx Blackjack. It's pretty featureless in comparison to a few others, but the preamps sound as though they should be in a more expensive interface. There are ALOT of products in that cheap-mid price range, but if I was on a budget I'd be buying the Mackie. The next jump to the true mid-professional interfaces is all about MOTU range. The 4pre and Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid both clock in between £350 and £400 and around £250-275 on the 2nd hand market. For a little more you can get the Track16 and breakout box which gives you serious options. For this money they are amazing. Both have different pro's and cons and both have arguably the best on-board features of any interface of any price, though the control system is a little complex on the Mk3. I would say the preamps in the MOTU are a touch darker sounding, particularly on vocals, compared to other pre's around but I couldn't really hear that on a bass. I very nearly went with the 4pre (as I didn't need the fancy DSP in the Mk3 and 4 mic pres at that price is impressive!) as the next price jump is quite a lot BUT the quality jump is also great and I managed to find buyers quickly for the stuff I was selling so decides to take another step up. The next jump is, IMO, into real pro sounding kit, jut with a reduction in features. The new Roland stuff sits here but I was unable to try it and reviews online are mixed, so I disregarded it. If you're a PC user re only thing you should consider is the RME Babyface. It's annoying that it is breakout cable only for it's I/O but it's SERIOUS quality. If you are a Mac user, the Babyface is also an option, along with the Apogee Duet 2 and the Audient ID22. The Duet has become the go-to pro interface for mac users and it sounds excellent, but I experienced some digital interference that I couldn't shake (a friend lent me one over night). He has no such problem but I couldn't solve it. A look around online revealed others that had the same problem, leading me to believe that it is very environmental/set up sensitive. That put me off, though others swear by it. Many even claim they prefer the Apogee pre's to RME ones. The Audient is pretty new, and I couldn't find one to try myself, but did spend some time with a guy on Skype who had one trying a few things out and I was blown away. The pres are bloody amazing, the functions are impressive, the mixer software is awesome. Mind blowing. It's not PC compatible yet, though apparently it will be soon. The last jump for home interfaces is really all about the RME UCX as Simon mentioned. That thing sounds incredible and is comparable to the quality in real top end studios. It is very expensive but will last a life time. The Apogee Quartet is even more expensive, but general feedback online is that side by side is looses out in preamp quality to the the RME (I'd assume that meant the RME Babyface would beat the Apogee Duet 2 if you could A/B them side by side). I'd have loved an RME unit, but couldn't justify the price of the UCX. The Babyface's breakout cable-only set up really bothers me so I'll be going for the Audient Unit (only set back being it doesn't have MIDI I/O) and intend to place my order this weekend. Given this is still new to the market I'm excited to see what future firmware brings. I have to be honest and say that I am still tempted by the MOTU Mk3 (or Track 16) for the extra in/outs and MIDI even though I know it's not quite as nice sounding. I'm 80/20 in favour of the Audient. But I digress - if I was on a budget I would get a Mackie Onyx Blackjack and be very happy. Shep -
Hey folks, I have seen, and would like for muly self some studio foam tiles in different colours. These are available in the USA in quite a large range of colours, look at the options in the photos on this eBay listing - http://bit.ly/1eKmlKZ I would like some, but from a UK supplier so I don't need to pay crazy shipping costs - maybe in the EU as it would at least avoid customs. Anyone come across them anywhere? I have found some electric blue ones, but that's it. I'd quite like the Purple ones in the listing I supplied (I'd go with a grey/purple mix) but will consider other colours. Note: I'm not interested in the crazy priced purple Auralex stuff!

Yes, you can have 2 basses connected at once, though the input gain on both inputs is different (one for active and one or passive) so you'd need to level out the instruments. I've had had it to max - it's in my front room and once the knob is even close to half way up the windows are shaking... So I can't tell you how clean it is up loud... Though that demo seems very accurate in terms of everything else. UPDATE: There is someone coming to try this out on Friday evening so this is kinda' sold pending approval on Friday.

Up for sale is this stunning Eventide ModFactor. I've only had this 2 days - dot get me wrong, it's AMAZING, I have huge respect for Eventide and think they make the best effects in the world (the PitchFactor is my number 1!). This is quite simply the most powerful modulation pedal in the world and has a Bass Wah setting to die for! I bought this in an attempt to not only have a one stop shop for my modulation, but primarily to try and replace my Moog MP-201 and Moog LPF at the same time for my compact setup. Unfortunately it will only do half of the functions I need in terms of replacing the MP-201 and as I have a home studio to outfit I can't afford to keep both. The pedal is in great condition and it's boxed, though the sleeve that slides onto the box with the pretty photo on is missing. Includes power supply (it has a little bit of tape around one end where I assume the cable was damaged before I got it. It's works perfect though so doesn't bother me). The instruction manual is missing but can he found here: Manual - http://www.eventide....Manual_Eng.ashx Presets - http://www.eventide..../MFPresets.ashx Quick reference - http://www.eventide....Factor_QRG.ashx I'd like to get exactly what I paid 2 days ago which is a very reasonable £210 posted in he UK. Any 'Factor for less than £250 is a bargain! Not really look for trades, but will consider part-ex deals with cash my way. The only pedals I would be interested in as part-ex would be anything from COG or Fuzzrocious (not the BDPG though), a SubDecay Noisebox, TC Ditto Looper or an IE Xerograph. Cheers Shep

Barefaced 3rd Generation product range upgrades

I am VERY keen to trial my Big Twin T next to a new Big Twin 2. I would really like a serious A/B test. Very excited to give one a whirl Alex. -
I'm very surprised that it worked. AC does not have a polarity, so no worries there, but it's rare that a DC unit can take AC without dying. If it survived and worked fine then I'd say you didn't hurt it - if you'd done damage you'd have known at the time. Just don't do it again!
Smart looking pieces of kit these new Warwick amps
Pretty damn smart sounding too. They did some serious work on the pre-amp's for these compared to other Warwick amps I've tried. Night and day really. This seems to fit somewhere between an Ampeg and an Aggie - serious punch and a solid rock tone, but with some unexpected clarity and definition.
...I'm also really liking the stuff that Shep is putting out at the moment through his KADE project (details here). Gotta love Basschat for the new music that gets signposted on here

Awww cheers man! Also meant to say I will check out Shep's new music too, I really like what he does, great ears. Sadly we still have no plan to get out of town yet, but if you ever plan to come down here, I'd be delighted!
Awwww guys! I only just stumbled over this. Big compliments. I'm blushing (so are my ears ). Big basschat love!!! ... Oh, and the Kit Richardson record is stunning! -
Awesome stuff. Glad this got resolved! It could have been anything really. One screw from the grill or holding the driver in just a tiny bit loose, or, like you said, putting the driver back like you did meant a cable was no longer touching the back. Either way - If it's gone, it's good!!
I note the positioning of the carry handles invites sharing the load with a fellow band member - cunning!
This was the first thing I remarked on when it arrived. As the box had to be thrown away due to it getting really wet I had a colleague help me bring it home form the office where it was delivered. We were carrying it to his car and I said "It makes huge difference having handles like this. Usually combo's have a single handle on top". It's such a simple and obvious feature... but makes a difference. It's easier to move it on your own this way compared to the single handle too IMO. Especially when it's not a 'super light weight' amp.

THIS IS NOW SOLD! Hi folks, Up for grabs is a brand new Warwick BC300 combo. I was lucky enough to win this as part of a recent giveaway competition and while I feel very luck to have received it, it just isn't going to get used over my EBS/Barefaced rig and is far too powerful to replace my home practice setup. The combo is immaculate and has had less than 15 minutes use in my front room the day it arrived, purely to make sure it worked. It is no longer boxed as the box got wet in transit and was not in a good way so I disposed of it. The amp is mint without a mark on it. Sounds huge and is bloody LOUD! 300w into a 15" plus horn. Graphic EQ, Compressor, Headphone out. Great tone. As this is not a great use to me I think it's only fair I pass it on at a bargain price to a new owner. GAK at similar stores seem to be asking around £550 for this beauty so I'll ask £300 collected form Nottingham. Thats £250 off for 15 minutes use! I am not prepared to ship this as the original box is no longer here and it's too much hassle to find a new box to fit it in. At £300 you can afford some petrol for a new amp! ;-) Has the manual (still sealed) and both Euro & UK power cables. Pics... NOW SOLD! Hey folks, Up for sale is an Orange VT1000 Valve Tester. This has been used twice and put back in the box, literally had less than 15 minutes use since it came into my possession. Still boxed with manual. Not a mark on it. You'd be hard pushed to tell it wasn't brand new. Link to manufacturers info - http://www.orangeamps.com/products/accessories/amplifier-management/vt1000/ Allows the testing and matching of a range of valve types. Super useful for valve amp users and small retailers alike! These retail around the £350 mark so I think £180 posted in the UK makes it a bargain. Pics to follow. Shep
