1. The Moog will filter everything out as far down as 20hz - meaning with the filter right down you get silence as our cabs don't do that. With the filter rolled back around the 75-80hz point with an octave pedal before it you are in serious amp clipping lows!
2. What you want to do is run an octave pedal into the Moog with settings described above. The Meatbox has an octave down as mart of it's sound so you'll need to recreate that to get that low! Then use the LPF to remove the highs and beef the lows.
3. Contact Barefaced. Alex knows his products. He's the man to tell you if something's wrong or not.
4. My Roscoe has a matching front and back headstock facing. Love it.
5. Myself and LeeMan are coming from Nottingham this evening. That's another 2 basschatters at least
6. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet... PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass How's about a chat with Brad Fee of the awesome Mojo Hand FX? Yup. I think so too... Mojo Hand FX offer stunning boutique effects pedals designed, built and assembled in the USA. They have a reputation for sounding great, looking stunning and surviving life on the road. The man behind the brand is Brad Fee. Check out what Brad had to say...
7. Sorry guys, these all sold back in January! I'll update the opening post.
8.
I caught the track last night, I like this, it's my kind of music. I'm going to follow this with great interest as I have my own ideas that seem to be in a similar vein to all this. keep up the good work mate, you have a new fan here lol
Thanks dude. Waatu has been doing some serious work on the mix. We're getting close to finish so should be announcing an official release date for the EP soon. Very excited about it.
9.
Great board dude, and very well organised. I think you and Shep would get on very well!
Yup! Give that man a cookie! Nice to have another OCD pedalboard arranger in the ranks! Shep
10. Ah cool - yeah, I promised Tom I'd do a demo for him. I will get around to it soon... Hopefully!
11. Just the guitar sample in the interview. Tom is sorting the bass samples ASAP. I've played the fuzz (Tarkin Fuzz) and it's very close to a Black Sov Big Muff, but with some very nice tweaks.
12. This time it's Basschat's very own TG Flatline: PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass May I present to you Tom George of COG Effects. COG are a relatively new company based in the UK, making high quality, hand wired pedals. Being a new face to the market has not stopped Tom's pedals making quite a splash with both guitarist and bassists alike. Have a look at what Tom had to say about his background and bringing his designs to the market.
13.
Thanks guys. So is this the stuff to get then?

I think this is the one they are referring to, it's the one I've always used and it works great! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velcro-Heavy-Duty-Stick-Black-VEL60241/dp/B00186Q9AK I also tried pedalboard tape and didn't like it, fine if you don't need to move your pedals otherwise when you take your pedals off the board the tape remains stuck together and will peel off from your pedals as Plunkrock has mentioned.
Those are both the same. Product. They changed the box last year. I have bought 3 boxes over the last 3 years, the first 2 came in the black and yellow box, the 3rd in the white and red (so assume that's the new design). If you buy less than 5m though you won't get a box. Make sure you get the self-adhesive version too as they make it as a sew-on too. As far as I'm aware, the loop side is identical to non-heavy duty Velcro of the same width (50mm), the difference is in the hook side. The heavy duty hook is totally different to regular Velcro hook, like a hard plastic with little razor sharp claws on it. You'll know as soon as you see it if you have the right stuff! If there's a big interest in the stuff I'll see if the place local to me will do a bulk-buy deal... Maybe I can get the boxes for £25 each or something...
14. I buy it from a local market stall, but its always been expensive. I bought some on eBay but when it arrived it was not Velcro branded. They argued it was, by it wasn't. The place I buy it from sell it at £6 a meter. There are 5m in the sealed box and they give you 10% off if you buy a box - so I got 5m for for £27. That's ALOT. Unless you are a total pedalboard whore like me, using a sensible amount 5m should last a lifetime.
15. Velcro branded heavy duty is expensive but blows the socks off that pedalboard tape. Be warned though - do not cover the whole of the bottom of your pedal or it ain't coming up! The heavy duty marked stuff is so strong we used it to stick a brick to the roof of our studio (it seemed like fun at the time!). It was still there when we moved out 12 months later!
16.
Awww god!!! When I see this kind of stuff on here I start jumping up & down. As I'm at work I cant listen to the track.....grrrr This sounds really my kind of thing & I cant wait to give this a listen ! Shep by the way I'm loving your website. Your style of playing is really what I'm aiming for, The difference with your ideas to mine is multi tracking my bass guitar, then overdubbing my clean acoustic bass & filling a back shadowy deeper Electric Upright Bass behind it all to give it depth (If this makes sense?) The next step for me is that on Saturday I'm picking up a Portastudio so finally I will be able to do this with better results.....Shep you've really inspired me & what's more you have convinced me that I'm heading in the right direction. Cant wait to hear this
Dude, that is a HUGE compliment. Seriously. Thank you... Kinda makes all the hours put into the blog totally worthwhile. For someone to say they are 'inspired' by my music or ramblings is amazing. I hope you dig this project too! If you ever fancy a day talking pedals and can get to Nottingham, the studio is always open Many a basschatter ha already taken me up on it - offers always there.
TUNE! Shep, that's wickid! I have no problem with the vox levels, I think it all settles very nicely in the mix. Great production. Do like Paul said and shop it around. What a great global project to be involved with!
Thanks dude! Soon as the EP is out we'll be spammin the living sh*t out of it Already doing some prep work on EP2 and it looks like 3 of the 4 MC's are confirmed for it. Another 4 countries on the books! We've also just agreed to a 'spin-off' EP as well. Turtle Handz (who did the tune we remixed in the link above) also features on a track on the EP. He loved the stuff so much he wants to a Turtle Zero collaboration EP, so that will also be coming... I'm expecting it to be something a little more like Death Grips than anything
17.
Oh, this is soo cool! I love the sinister feel of the single. The vocals sound like they are straight from the evil guy of some movie. Love the glitchy feel. Love that the vocals aren't caught up with being ultra polished. I think it's great BUT it is something that I need time to adjust to. It's so out there (not in a bad sense) that i'm utterly stunned by it (in a good way). Going to listen to it more, can't wait to hear more from you guys
Thanks dude. The vocals are VERY dark. Theres some EQ and some deliberate glitching of the vox going off too. Subtle, but in a way that we hoped would have that kind of impact. The EP is nearly done now and every tune is VERY different. I'd say 2 tracks were quite dark (this being one of them) and 2 quite upbeat and funky. I'm quite excited to get this out!!!!
18. You know what - As sparsely as I used this, I REALLY want it back... Need to find funds.
19.
well, I've got a sov BM pedal, for £55 not too long ago. I'm definitely thinking of selling it if those ones on ebay go for £200, and then look at the Wren & Cruff or one of the mentioned COG's. Just blows my mind!
That Sir, was a bloody bargain. They are very expensive due to rarety. You only need one or two famous folks to be using a old pedal and suddenly everyone wants one again. The modern alternatives are, IMO, much better, given the additional years if refinement and R&D. Plus, save you a truck load of cash!
20. Now, you may take me as biased, given it says in my signature that I 'endorse' them, but I am aware that Tom's (TG Flatline) COG Tarkin Fuzz is basically this very circuit with some optimised tweaks for bass. I've played both pedals and they are very similar. I'd be hard pushed to pick which I prefer, each has its own character, but I'd certainly say the COG pedal LOVES the bass. Given what Tom is selling his stuff for (waaaaay too cheap for the quality IMO) I'd suggest you check it out. I'd say it just like Eakimo above, but if you want a Sovtek, buy the COG and save SERIOUS money (and have a better made pedal!)
21. All the guest MC submissions are in, final mixing of the EP is on! In the mean time, here is a remix of a rather wicked HipHop tune by one of the guys featuring on the record. The remix was done by Waatu and was in need of a bass line, so I stepped in. Not officially a 'Patient Zero' remix... but it is really! https://soundcloud.com/waatumusic/turtle-handz-megamaeng-b-52
22. It's a great idea, but obviously not without risks. As long as trust remains within the community then it's great. It's also important that those of us that are more 'relaxed' about meeting deadlines and doing stuff when they say they will put some effort into trying and posting on the stuff to th next person! Sounds fun though. I've done this with a number if members already (you included) so you know I'm game.
