Tuner. Octave down. Low Pass Filter. Moog MP-201 - If this broke I would cry.

That the beauty of personal taste, preference, and also how differently we all hear things. Not every bit of kit is right for everyone's needs/sounds/band mix etc. if nothing else, we just proved that fact!
But can you put a synth on your pedal board and just kick in that one killer sound at your next gig?
Nope - but you can stomp on an equally good sounding synth pedal that's damn sight cheaper than £700!?
Excellent! Source Audio Bass Synth would be interesting...
Agreed! I imagine a combination if parts of the current pedals, with some tasty new treats as well! -
Currently messing about with the following, just playing with some sounds for a project really, all changeable as usual Yes there's loads more power than necessary, but it's so I can add in stuff for experimenting off-board and just power whatever. Si
Thats very cool Matrix-esque enclosure on that board! -
I sold mine for £80 before anyone took interest in them. The guy I sold it to all those years ago still has it too so I was able to play around with it again recently. I'm happy to say I don't regret selling it one bit (except for the bit about making lots more money off it now!). I know lots of people think it's amazing... but I'm not one of those people. I find about 2 or 3 usable tone in that unit and I can get those tones using separate stomp boxes for less money and with more flexibility. It's all personal preference I know, but for that money - christ, buy a Moog!

Pleasure man. Thanks for reading. In having a run on pedal builders over the coming months, more of a focus in that area. I have some awesome stuff lined up! -
Shep on Bass - Interviews about effects!
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Effects
Time for another (well overdue!) interview... PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass I'm very excited to present to you Bob Chidlaw, the man responsible for the sound design and development of Source Audio's range of innovative effects. Bob Childlaw is a man with a varied technical background and huge love of vintage amplifiers and effects. So how does this background relate to creating genre defining digital effects? Have a look at what Bob has to say about it all... -

2 can play at this game. Thought I'd join in... Nice. Toms a genius. I have 2 custom units already, I've tried every pedal in the range and I have another 2 or 3 (might be 4, Tom?) custom bits in the pipeline. Stunning build quality, excellent finish and perfect audio. Shep

My new Thru-Tone PM-1 (Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Mod)
pantherairsoft replied to gstirrat's topic in Effects
It's an expensive mod, but a luxury pro job and fantastic work by the look of things... I'm impressed. The glowing blue is a nice touch too... -
The Moog is the benchmark for a static/sweep-able Low Pass. It has a warm, fat and very analogue sound - something you'll either love or hate. They can add a little noise the the chain, but IMO for all the noise they add the tone is to die for! The IE Xero is also excellent. It's smaller, cheaper, uses a typical 'boss' power supply (the Moog is reverse polarity and needs and isolated supply) and sounds lovely. It have a very different voiceing to the Moog though, with a different resonance flavour. It doesn't sound as warm as the Moog, but is much more 'hi fi', again - you'll either love or hate that fact.
I quite like the feel of this although the vocals get a little lost at somepoint and 1:30 doesn't sit right with me but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be. Overall, I like it
I know the bit you're talking about - when I first heard it I also thought it was a little 'odd'. But in context, setting up for the glitching section just after it grew on me and Waatu. So it stayed
Wow Shep!! This is one cool project you have going on mate. Love it. That 'Ballpoint Magician' track is great. Beautiful production - sounds superb through my cans. The beat itself is really quirky and interesting. If you hadn't mentioned I'd have put money on the bassline being 100% synth-generated - amazing how you manage to get those sounds! (but then I know your pedal board is like the flight deck of the Space Shuttle... ). I like the vocals too - crisp delivery and caught my attention straight away. Honest opinion? I'd say it sounds as good as your Helical Mind stuff to my ears. I'd maybe even go so far as to say it's got a more original feel to it. You should tout this stuff around some labels - seriously - it's f-ing great!
Very high praise dude. Very kind. That bass line is the most straightforward of the EP - just a single track of bass. The others are MUCH more effects heavy. This tune is nothing but an OC-2 on my clean sound. -1 Octave up full and dry & -2 Octave off. Basically no mixing on the Bass needed either. That sound is lush! As for labels. It's on one (ok, I do own it)... Which is enough for now -
Hey folks, Those of you that know me know I typically get involved in fairly unusual projects or stuff which involve my effects pedals outnumbering band members by 10 to 1. Well, this project could be the most ambitious of them all. Patient Zero is a truly international collaboration consisting of myself and Canadian beat-maker/producer Waatu Music. Waatu found me via Twitter a couple of years ago when I was playing bass for Our Helical Mind and approached us about doing some remixes, of which he did many... and they were awesome. He's been as much a fan of my playing and effects-heavy sound as I have his awesome take on modern HipHop and we'd spoke about doing more besides remixes together. Enter Patient Zero! PZ is a blend of HipHop and Electronica, created by both digital and analogue methods. Beats produced in Canada then come to me in the UK where I build all the other sounds and textures using the bass and effects. Some tunes are a single, solid traditional bass line, others have 4 tracks of bass going playing everything from Dubstep Wobble to ambient space sounds. Then, every single tune is pre-mixed and sent to a different MC from a different part of the world to treat as a blank canvass and add vocals as they see fit. The end result therefore being a collaborative effect combining totally different creative influences and sounds. We are currently putting the finishing touches to the 1st EP which will be titled 'Scarecrow Tactics' and alongside myself and Waatu, features the vocal talents of ThiNXx (South Africa), Turtle Handz (USA), Tusken Coalition (UK) and Dyzlexic (Australia). That's 5 countries represented from release 1. The 1st tune is available now as the 'single' - Ballpoint Magician ft ThiNXx can be heard & downloaded for FREE here!!! This is the straightest of the tunes where the bass is concerned, but I love the dark vibe that ThiNXx gave what really sounded like a funk tune before his vocals were down! Anyway, I hope you guys dig it. If you are a fan of hiphop and/or electronica then I'd love to hear your feedback/thoughts/comments/hate mail as applicable. We hope to have Scarecrow Tactics out by the end of May and already have a list of people interested in working with us for EP2, which we hope will not be far behind. If any of you guys are or know any MC's/Vocalists and live in a currently non-PZ-represented country then get in touch and help us with total global coverage!!! Please download the single (it is free after all) and give us a LIKE on Facebook - https://www.facebook...ientZeroProject Also find us on Bitnormal Records - http://www.bitnormal...t/patient-zero/ Shep

Horses for courses I guess. I can't see how a pitchblack has any simplicity over the Polytune or the Polytune over the pitchblack. They have an on/off button and when you play a string the screen tells you what the note is. I prefer the screen/read out on the Polytune. It find it more readable than the other options. It works for me and I guess that's the important thing.
-
I love it - I've owned them all and I find the Polytune & the mini the easiest to use and look at. My least favourite is the Pitchblack.
Oh cheers! Very tempted to get some swamp ash ones, reckon they would be very nice, or something a bit darker so they dont look they are trying to hide . How does he cope with stacked knobs? They always seem a tad complex to find in wood at a reasonable price...
I don't know - I've never ordered any Fire him a message via eBay.

The knobs have been the biggest thing. Not being able to make contact with the pots has cured all static sounds.
