1. Yeah dude. Cool bunch of guys and they were stunning when we played in Antwerp. They opened the night and were NOT an easy act to follow!!
2. After a nice Christmas break I'm hitting the interviews full force. Here is the 1st of 2013... PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass Jimmy Bridges is the bass, synth, electronics & all-round low-end noise monger for London Post Rock legends UpCDownC. Unlike many of the people I have interviewed, Jimmy does not have a huge pedal set up, though he does have access to an equally complex sounding range of tones, opting instead of a range of Synth and software items to compliment the core of his bass tones. Check out what Jimmy has to say about his gear and his sound...
3.
what's happened to the custom xerograph ? me no see yet ..
There is no low pass on that pic... That's just a set up for one specific song that we were tracking. That said, the Xero is on Taylor's bench having some tweaks made to the CV scale. It'll be back soon.
4.
From the colour of the switch it looks like a ClusterFlux.
ClusterFlux it is.
5. Snap from the recording session at the weekend...
6. I think you are looking at digital units like the one you have or a midi based system with a floor unit. At the end of the day analogue units are unlikely to have external control boards an digital units are rarely made with an analogue-style interface. If you want knobs and tweak ability then the pedal units are the only ones I think that will offer you that (as they are designed primarily for stage live use). A rack system will generally have MUCH more in the way of features an as such involve more menus, which while they may have floor switching options, will inevitably be less tweak-able on the fly. It makes little sense for a manufacturer to make a more limited unit when they have the technology to put together some thing more advanced that covers much more - as you've found with your V-amp. Hopefully you'll find a solution. I'd really suggest trying the EQ-20, its a great pedal.
7. No time wasted! Boss EQ-20? 9 storable banks that you can scroll through with your feet, plus graphic sliders to tweak the called up patch on the fly! http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=161
8. What about something like the programmable Sansamp? Floor unit, 6 presets you can store (or 3 per instrument if you use 2 inputs) and big fat knobs to tweak of it doesn't sound right! http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/bassdriverdlx.html
9. Please any comments or issues regarding pricing to PM as per forum rules. richardd your post has been removed. Baz - thanks for stating the prices. Shep
10. So what exactly do you want on top of what the channel strip already give you? It's looks like quite a comprehensive EQ section.
11. If effects are of little importance, what do you want to achieve from something that your current set up doesn't? Or maybe, a better question would be is what parts of the V-Amp do you use that you'd like to access without a menu? You mention its 'tone shaping' which would imply EQ and filters, but also say that the 'channel strip' had an EQ you like. Do you just need an amp with a more comprehensive EQ section on the front? There are lots of them about! Or maybe a great rack EQ unit to replace your V-Amp, something like Dave Hall's rack for some tube tone and great EQ - http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page47.html. Shep
12. I'm not certain I get what 'both worlds' you want the best of? If I understand correctly you are looking for options of having a single unit which will act as your preamp as well as offering a range of effects, but one which is either analogue or at the very least has an analogue approach with easy on-the-fly adjustment (like the knob per function you mention) and no real need to access menu's etc...?
13. Hi Alex, if I understand correctly you want to know the differenence between a serial loop like yours (one pedal into the next to next etc then onto the amp) and using parallel loops? If so then compared to how your chain is structured a parallel loop would allow you to hear two effects side by side through your amp, as if they were 2 separate instruments. Example... If you run a fuzz into an envelope filter you get a nice wet synth sound. If you use separate loops via something like a Boss LS-2 then you will hear the fuzz and the envelope side by side as of you were using them separately. The sounds will be completely unmixed. The application is commonly used to run effect that suck bass in one loop and to run nothing (so you hear your full clean sound) or an octave down in the other, this allows you to hear a big fully untouched bass tone while still having your effects. Shep
14. Only because I had an hour to put the board together
15. Doing a last minute recording session today at Derby University, laying down one of our funky breakbeat tracks. It's one of simplest tunes we play and this is the stuff I need to play it... (Messy I know...) Oh...
16. It'll be the regular 18mm bridge they got on these. They can go 17.5-18.5mm with some jiggery. The 19mm spacing option they offer is not just a wider bridge, it a wider neck as well so quite a costly upgrade! LOVELY bass by the way. Easily one of the most stunning instruments on Basschat at the mo IMO!
17. Cool stuff. Lots more discussion on this pedal here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185640-sonuus-wahoo-could-this-be-the-best-bass-pedal-ever-new-vids/
18. Ian bought some Patch leads off me. Hassle free. All good! Thanks dude! Shep
19. Looks pretty cool actually...
20. Bought some jacks and a power supply from Tom. Easy transaction and super quick delivery. Cheers! Shep
21. Thanks dude, it means a lot. Knowing people really dig the info on the blog keeps me going! I have another Signal Chain Bassics post in the works at the mo, but struggling to have time to get in done in full. There are at least 3 other parts of that series to come. I will be starting another series of interviews to run alongside my 'Interviews about effects' series over the coming months, looking at luthiers and preamp makers, discussin inspirations an tone instead of effects. The effect interviews will continue still as well, but I have a few guys on board for this series too... Shep
22. It's been a while since I've lusted for a bass... That Streamline is amazing! Have a bump for a stunning stunning bass.
23.
I think I'm gonna need a bigger board ....
Maybe!! :-)
24.
why this and not the rc-30 or the boomerang, shep? I'm still on the hunt for a cheap rc-30, but have no hurry yet.
Like Ant says, you can do lots of patch swapping without needing external switches and I had no more space to fit extras. The 2-switch RC unit is the same size as the Jamman so it had to be one or the other... After a quick play the Jamman won on features!
