1. I've been excited about this one for a while. A man I often mention as a big influence - Bond! PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass Radek Bednarz usually goes simply by the name Bond. He is regarded among many bass communities to be one of the founders of bringing electronica and dubstep-styled bass to the live performance arena. His work is at the forefront of what can be achieved on live bass and his work constantly pushes the boundaries of what's possible with stringed instruments. I've mentioned Bond and his work a number of times throughout my blog and always sited him as an influence of mine. Naturally when he agreed to discuss his set up and approach, I jumped at the chance!
 2. Hey, got your PM. If you can answer the questions I've PM'd you then I'll try and get a solution to you in the morning! Shep
 3. If you do - let us know how you get on!
 4. Shipping late next week!
 5.
Finally got time to actually read that whole interview with Jarman. Quality stuff. Hope they get over here some time soon.
Me too! He mentioned they were aiming to get over to Europe soon! They have a track (a live re-interpretation of our tune) on our new release that we are putting out next month and it's AWESOME. I love what they do.
 6.
It's a brilliant site you've got there & I'm happy to point anyone to it.. On a side note, I've noticed that some effects can respond to what's after them as well as what's before them (Moogers being prime examples). I've noticed that depending what pedals I have turned on, the chorus that's after the LPF can affect the envelope amount. Weird!
I would of thought that what you are hearing is the envelope being exploited more as the chorus sweeps a higher frequency range. If you have dirt on you'll have more top end harmonics, which will be amplified in the higher frequencies by the chorus. The envelope in the LPF will be heard in those high peaks as the modulation sweeps up. The envelope amount won't be moving, but th sweep of the chorus is making more of that envelope audible. I may be wrong... But that'd be my explanation
 7.
experimenting with layering distortions for a bass + shoegaze guitar sound
Nice pick of effects. The mess hurts my eyes though
 8.
Like simwells says, there's no rules. However, Shep's blog might be of interest to you... http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/category/signal-chain-bassics
No rules - chuck them all out. What works for you might not work for others. Effects respond so different in different orders so you need to move them around to find the sounds you love. There are practical restrictions, like old analogue octavers will basically track sod all after modulation or heavy dirt, so you're limited as to where they 'will work'. Failing that go mad! Thanks for sharing the link dude!
ta never mind the effects im distracted by the music page now
Glad you like it!! Shep
 9. Cheers rOB, I do my best! Plenty more lined up as well!!
 10.
There are some ridiculous sounds coming out of his bass.. I never knew you could assign separate patches to separate strings!? Blew my mind yet again.. thanks Shep!
Yeah man you can do so much stuff with some software... Impressive.
 11. I miss this bass! Amazing beast!!!
 12.
thanks, great shep. but I didn't expect anything else.
Cheers dude - I can always count on you for some big up's!
 13. Thank you buddy! What Jarman does with MIDI is really quite special. We've spoke a lot on the subject and he maintains that he just fiddles and stuff happens, that he doesn't consider himself to be that well versed in how it all works and how to get results. I beg to differ! The guy is amazing! Shep
 14. Time for some MIDI-bass for a change. Melbourne, Australia's very own Jarman Donohue! PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass Jarman is the dubstep mastermind behind Australia's Men Imitating Machines, a 2-piece projects involving MIDI-Bass and MIDI-Drums and more crazy huge sub wobbling, ear splitting tones than you'd think possible from 2 men. Check out what the MIDI-Bass monster has to say about all things noisy!
 15. If it picks up noise you'll need to move it, if not, don't worry! You'll know the 1st time you fire it up. Just make sure, that if you have a power supply that runs warm, that you are not going to make it even warmer - make sure some air can still get to the casing.
 16. This thread has been viewed over 3500 times since I posted shortly after the OP was made... I think at least 50% of those have been me. I adore this bass! Someone needs to snap this up pronto!!!
 17. Any effects-based trades?
 18. Stunning. Best instruments in the world IMO. I have one on order so no money for this, but can you clarify if the sale includes the midi pickup it's pictured with?
 19.
Having 2 M5's would be more fun!
This is definitely the best solution!
 20. Unfortunately no, the LS2 will not do that. Reorganising the signal chain is a touch call. I can think of one pedal that will do what you need in this instance - The Wobo Loop Inverter. http://woboge.com/boxes_inverter.html You'd set your chain as follows... Bass - input of loop inverter - - loop1 - every pedal upto and including the tremolo - loop2 - M5 Output of loop inverter - delay The loop inverter lets you swap the signal chain order of the loops, so in one position the long string of effects runs into the m5 and then the delay. Press the button and 1 & 2 get swapped so the M5 runs into the long string of effects and then the delay. Hope that helps Shep
 21.
This I need to see..
All in good time! Next one will be an Australian!
 22.
If you get Mr. Chancellor, just remember to ask him to explain all of his signal chain..
Don't worry about that! That said... I have one interview in the pipeline with someone who's set up at least doubles Justin's!?!?
Interview with Juan is the best one yet. Great work as always.
Thanks dude. High praise!
 23.
ok, but where can you go from here ?
Well the plan isn't to interview bigger and bigger artists. It's to interview artists with interesting and complex effects set ups. I have some awesome stuff in the pipeline at the mo, some of which folks will never of heard of - but mega interesting all the same. I will keep trying to track down Justin Chancellor though
 24. How about a sprinkling of Juan Alderete for the weekend... PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass I'm not sure Juan really needs an introduction... But just in case... Juan is the long time effects champion and bass player with Big Sir, Racer X & The Mars Volta to name but a few, Juan has scored his name among the bass elite during his varied career. Always willing to share his knowledge and experience, Juan was cool enough to answer some questions about his gear and how he uses it...
 25. Questions - 1. Do you just use a single channel of all the rack gear other than the ISP or are both channels in use on some of the units? 2. You run everything AFTER the amp!? Sorry of I'm being a tab dumb here... By why? Surely the amp want to be the last thing before going onto the canb!? Just try they exact wiring set up have but put the amp last and see what the results are. Shep
