1.
Sounds awesome. I see you've gotten rid of the Moog LPF in favor of the Iron Ether.. is it that good?! You guys have to come to the US sometime.. play some shows.

Bet the air freight on your pedalboard would be a nightmare Shep!

It's a sign. Come to Aberdeen first

Ha.... The Xero was built to spec to replace the Moog. I tested a regular Xero out to ensure the tone would fit (in places I kinda prefer the Moog tone, but the Xero works great for the music) but importantly the IE pedal is totally noise free. Silent as a mouse. The Moog unfortunately rapes my noise floor having all those pedals before it and I need to use noise gates and make some compromise to get tr best from it. The custom Xero needs to go back for more tweaking soon (it was the 1st Taylor had made like this with 3 CV controls so some tweaking was expected) but I'm very happy with it. Freight would be mad, though NC would be amazing (Moog, Roscoe & Krispy Kreme!!). Aberdeen would rock as well. Hook us up with a promoter that will pay enough to cover travel and make a few quid an we'll happily visit either!
  2. Moog Moogerfooger Clusterflux (so I voted 'other').
  3.
One question.. do you run both the sub and noise loops at the same time?
Sometimes. The loops mixer swaps between A and B with one switch and enables both in parallel with the other. I often play a line with the noise channel and then kick in the 'sub' underneath it when it builds up.
  4. Shot of my rig from a video shoot yesterday... Basically it's all Meh except for the fact that there is a cassette deck in the shot! WIN!
  5. Due to have a number of changes recently I thought I'd write this up for those interested in the exact workings of my board... Shep on Bass - My Signal Chain Explained I think that just about covers it all!! Pics taken at a music video shoot yesterday:
  6.
I believe it's a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. In other, more personal news, I have finally decided to start on a pedalboard with most likely a Polytune, a Phat Phuk B, a BB Bass Preamp, an OC-2, and most likely an Oxide, on a Diago board with a Powerstation and hooked up with George L's. Now that I've said it on here, I can't change my mind again! I hope. ...just added it up and it's $1095 altogether. Wish me luck!
You'll save a ton by buying the bits 2nd hand. Stuff like Powerstations crop up all the time for cheap. If you need and straight George L's let me know as I have loads spare if you want a few cheap (pending on postage costs to your side of the world of course!).
  7. The new board in action last Thursday (snapped by a friend in the audience...)
  8.
Ah man. I would have came over after we'd finished up if I'd know you'd still be around!
We weren't quite expecting to go on that late! Was an odd gig. Fun though! Zachary and the ZVEX guys just re-posted your interview on the ZVEX facebook page. Pretty cool!
  9. My live rig... Genz Benz Streamliner 900 Barefaced Big Twin T
  10.
thanks for the AMTP interview Shep. nice work. pity you missed 'em last thursday, you'd have loved it !
I intended to pop in, but we needed up playing until 1am!! Was a late gig.
  11. I've taken that advice and darkened the text box by reducing it's opacity from 50% to 25% - I think it was the right call! To reward you all for being so nice about the site I thought I'd publish another interview!! So, I present you, Dan Leadbetter... PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass Dan is the bass player/noise maker with Alpha Male Tea Party - One of the UK's hottest bands on the unsigned instrumental/progressive scene. AMTP produce a real barrage of frenzied guitar and bass driven grooves mixed with intricate timings, complex song structures and glorious tones. The listening experience is something very special. By their own admission they sound something like "Elton John and sausages"! All you lot may know Dan a little better as Basschat member 'D-L-B'.
  12. Text only isn't an option on the platform I use, but I could make the opaque box that the text sits in a little darker/less opaque to offset that a little. Shep
  13.
I like the design of your site, but unfortunately it is difficult to read and bad for the eyes. btw, haven't heard back from the guys yet. cheers
Cheers dude. I get total opposite sides of feedback. Some people say just that, others say its easy to read and can't see why I'd want to change it. I just asked on Talkbass too and the first reply was totally opposite! Ha. Guess asking the masses isn't going to make things any easier! If a portion of people struggle (either because it's naturally hard to read, or because they use a monitor etc that doesn't like it) then I think a redesign may be in order.
  14. Question - I've put this on the blog too... I have been told on a few occasions that the site can be hard to read on a few screens and devices due to using white text on a darker background. I quite like the overall look, but it's important to me that you guys like it too! The web platform I use has just released a new upgrade which comes with a ton of new features but before I decide to put in all the work in moving the site over I wonder if its worth moving a a 'cleaner' looking site, possibly something which is white with black text in order to make things easier to read. Examples like Janek Gwizdala's & Juan Alderete's websites are good examples of the modern, clean, black on white look. So the question is, do any of you find the site hard to read in it's current format and would find a layout like one of the examples above to be beneficial to you, or, do you like the look and layout of the site as it is? I appreciate your feedback... Shep
  15. Just finished putting the pics form the rebuild up on my blog (I took loads), showing my serious OCD for keeping things tidy. The great pedal board rebuild of 2012: Part I: Starting over. Part II: Powering & patching. Part III: Keeping it tidy. Part IV: The finished product.
  16.
If only..
No Zappa I'm afraid I have a serious number lined up though - Loads of guys vanished so I started another 'round' of contacting people... then they are resurfaced. Good times. Just had a confirmation from another BIG name as well. Quite a niche player, but with a huge audience. Big enough to have a signature model bass available from a large builder and possibly the most complex set up I've ever seen...
  17.
Cheers guys - Thats pretty much the idea i'm going for. How easy would they be to mod to include an exp out? for someone like Max etc... Any ideas?
You'd need to rehouse the pedal in a larger box, the parts and work would likely make it more expensive than buying the boss shifter - which is a better pedal and has the features you want.
  18.
Shep, Is the new layout any lighter than before??? Si
No. The new plinth I a tad heavier than all the separate risers, but a few less pedals brings it to roughly the same.
  19. I have one. No exp as Si says. Sounds quite digital - but in a way I like impressive for the money!
  20.
So dont you ever need to tweak your trem or Fuzzrocious shizzle? Great work BTW! Looks fab! You need to get some neon underlights and sh*t on there though. It's nowhere near tacky enough given how much firepower you got on there! Truckstop
The underglow has been considered!! Leave it with me. The Fuzz and OD don't get tweaked. I used to mess with the PN-2 but find I only use it in hard chop now. It's positioned where I can get to the footswitch as it doesn't stay on when powered down. The Octamizer is an always on effect in loop B so that lives underneath now as well.
  21. Finally finished the rebuild. Took LOADS I pics of everything under the hood etc. and I'll drop them all on my website soon. For now, this is how it looks... Very happy with it. I was a tads OTT with the tidiness and cable wrapping etc. though!
  22. And the main reason for the rehouse - to remove the stupid lip that makes sticking the pedal down an utter nightmare! Dimensions of the pedal (excluding the lip of of the top)... 123mm x 65mm x 33mm. I can loose the battery compartment, as long as the battery snap is left stowed inside the unit so it can be put back in the original case in the future. That would reduce the length from 123mm by 20mm or so.
  23.
Have you got any pics of the inside?
I'll take some later
  24. Anyone fancy rehousing an Aguilar Octamizer into something less stupidly shaped than its original ?
