1. Question - I've put this on the blog too... I have been told on a few occasions that the site can be hard to read on a few screens and devices due to using white text on a darker background. I quite like the overall look, but it's important to me that you guys like it too! The web platform I use has just released a new upgrade which comes with a ton of new features but before I decide to put in all the work in moving the site over I wonder if its worth moving a a 'cleaner' looking site, possibly something which is white with black text in order to make things easier to read. Examples like Janek Gwizdala's & Juan Alderete's websites are good examples of the modern, clean, black on white look. So the question is, do any of you find the site hard to read in it's current format and would find a layout like one of the examples above to be beneficial to you, or, do you like the look and layout of the site as it is? I appreciate your feedback... Shep
  2. Just finished putting the pics form the rebuild up on my blog (I took loads), showing my serious OCD for keeping things tidy. The great pedal board rebuild of 2012: Part I: Starting over. Part II: Powering & patching. Part III: Keeping it tidy. Part IV: The finished product.
  3.
If only..
No Zappa I'm afraid I have a serious number lined up though - Loads of guys vanished so I started another 'round' of contacting people... then they are resurfaced. Good times. Just had a confirmation from another BIG name as well. Quite a niche player, but with a huge audience. Big enough to have a signature model bass available from a large builder and possibly the most complex set up I've ever seen...
  4.
Cheers guys - Thats pretty much the idea i'm going for. How easy would they be to mod to include an exp out? for someone like Max etc... Any ideas?
You'd need to rehouse the pedal in a larger box, the parts and work would likely make it more expensive than buying the boss shifter - which is a better pedal and has the features you want.
  5.
Shep, Is the new layout any lighter than before??? Si
No. The new plinth I a tad heavier than all the separate risers, but a few less pedals brings it to roughly the same.
  6. I have one. No exp as Si says. Sounds quite digital - but in a way I like impressive for the money!
  7.
So dont you ever need to tweak your trem or Fuzzrocious shizzle? Great work BTW! Looks fab! You need to get some neon underlights and sh*t on there though. It's nowhere near tacky enough given how much firepower you got on there! Truckstop
The underglow has been considered!! Leave it with me. The Fuzz and OD don't get tweaked. I used to mess with the PN-2 but find I only use it in hard chop now. It's positioned where I can get to the footswitch as it doesn't stay on when powered down. The Octamizer is an always on effect in loop B so that lives underneath now as well.
  8. Finally finished the rebuild. Took LOADS I pics of everything under the hood etc. and I'll drop them all on my website soon. For now, this is how it looks... Very happy with it. I was a tads OTT with the tidiness and cable wrapping etc. though!
  9. And the main reason for the rehouse - to remove the stupid lip that makes sticking the pedal down an utter nightmare! Dimensions of the pedal (excluding the lip of of the top)... 123mm x 65mm x 33mm. I can loose the battery compartment, as long as the battery snap is left stowed inside the unit so it can be put back in the original case in the future. That would reduce the length from 123mm by 20mm or so.
  10.
Have you got any pics of the inside?
I'll take some later
  11. Anyone fancy rehousing an Aguilar Octamizer into something less stupidly shaped than its original ?
  12. I understand they are shipping this week... As for space - we'll see
  13. End of day one progress of the great pedal board rebuild... The layout (This took ages to settle on)... And under the upper tier... All the powering going in and all the power cables cut to length (still to be cable tidied at the end!)... Waiting on a GigRig Isolator to arrive to power a few of them (hoping it'll arrive tomorrow) but other than that it's powered. Tomorrow, 9am, patch cabling begins Shep
  14.
Labelmaker - very wise...
Ooooooooooooh yes!
  15. Anyone ever heard of Justin Meldal-Johnsen? PLEASE BE AWARE - MY WEBSITE IS NOW CLOSED. THE INTERVIEWS CAN NOW BE FOUND HERE -> http://simonpoulton.....com/sheponbass Justin Meldal-Johnsen is a serious bass heavy weight. He is responsible for recording, touring and providing the low end for such massive acts as Nine Inch Nails, Beck & Gnarls Barkley. In the world of bass players he is the kind of name that many many players aspire to be. He is also a serious pedal-head! I was lucky enough to steal 15 minutes of his precious time to get some answers over his effects, gear and live set up.
  16.
Whereabouts are you playing in Bolton? I might head down if i can. Liam
Sorry dude - I meant 'the closest to Manchester we have been is Bolton'. The live EP on our Bandcamp was recorded at a mini festival in Bolton a short while ago. We should be heading back in a couple of months though so I'll keep you posted!
  17.
Looks like a real good job mate, if your ever playing around Manchester i'll be there!
Thanks dude. Closest we've got sonar is Bolton, though I'm hoping to hook up a gig with TheBrokenDoor again soon and Manchester is my target (maybe with From The Kites Of San Quentin...)? I'll keep you posted!
  18.
I've played in garages for 99% of my musical career, it won't be that hard for me.
Good call! You sound perfect for the job!
  19. OC2 as OC3 sound very different. The OC3 sounds closest on the -2 Octave (Monophonic) Mode... Just don't actually use the -2 Octave knob. That will get ge you as close as the pedal can get to it... But best bet would me to get an OC2!
  20.
Nice one Sheps! You didn't need my Roscoe after all!!!
Thi isn't the actual video - this was a warm up of ideas that turned into a video itself! We are shooting a video for our new single with a video producer and some Gucci equipment on the 10-12th but I have managed to obtain a Rosoce to use for the shoot with minimal logistics involved in getting it here! Appreciate the offer you made to borrow yours for it though dude.
  21. I took all the measurements at the studio, made the little feet and the plinth at home and prayed I'd got the measurements right... Thankfully it fits with about 1mm spare! I am clearly a power tool god! We're hitting Europe on touted in a few months so I'm going for 'bomb proof'
  22.
Very interesting, Shep... but I think you should probably get some more pedals - just to be on the safe side. .
It may not surprise to you know that I've had a clear out and these are the ones that are left... My stripped down ergonomic board so to speak I've done some slight adjustments as well... Stripped the board, removed all old Velcro and scrubbed it clean, then removed the foam on the base (most of)... I've made some wooden 'feet' for the top tier to sit on as well as it used to sit on foam which, while OK, has squished a little meaning there was a little movement... I also put some serious work in making this plinth for the whole front row. Every pedal was on a different size riser to lift it over the lip and to make things more accessible, so instead I made a single one which is covered with 'Veltex' material (which is a fabric cover made by Velcro which acts like the soft side of Velcro). I'm pretty chuffed by it... So it should all work a little like this...
  23. And so the great rebuild of 2012 begins... ... See you soon!! Shep
  24.
Great video and track. Did you record this track in a studio in the Lady Bay area? My mate Paul co-owns a studio there and he talked about 'a bass and drum outfit where the bass player played a seven string plank (he's not good at Maths) and a Barefaced cab' - I thought of you! Anyway, I'd like to catch you live sometime.
Hey dude, Thanks! Yes - we've done all our studio recordings with Johnny & Paul @ Moot. Awesome guys. Have known them since they were at Pristine, maybe 10 years. Live - 17th Aug at the Maze!
  25.
nice! now i see why you wanted to pay for the tremorslo on monthly payments (looking forward to getting mine and pairing it with the PN-2 for some trem-madness!)
Yup! I wanted it to pair with my PN-2 as well
