Bass players & structural health.
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in General Discussion
It's an internet forum - of course it will. Good luck with the rehab Shep - I hope it continues to work for you.
Lol! Cheers. I have actually had some excellent Physio advice in the past and that came from Basschat (essexbasscat!). -
Bass players & structural health.
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in General Discussion
I hope this won't become a 'what's better' thread. I totally think it's down to an individual case by case circumstance as to what is needed and/or what works for the body. In my case, the Chiro gave me the same advice and guidance as the Physio didn't plus the chiropractic work, making my time at the Physio somewhat redundant. I've found the process fantastic thus far and the post above is just a reflection of my experience as well as a number of discussions with John about musicians he's helped. JTUK - My Chiro takes a similar approach to this, I see them once ever 4-6 weeks with a 'course' of work to undertake between sessions and we-reasses the situation based upon the impact this has done. Much of Chiro work overlaps with Physio work in my experience, but the core 'hands on' side of things differs. From my experience with the Physio though I would also suggest that it depends on who you see as to what sort of treatment you get! -
Hey folks, Many of you will know that I have been having a number of structural health issues over the last 12 months from tendonitis to serious back and should pains - This has caused me to have to sell my entire bass collection and have something made that is quite specific for me needs. As part of my 'rehab' I decided to visit a Chiropractor despite the NHS suggesting Physio was a better option (unfortunately the Physio I saw was of little help and had little interest in helping...) and after out very own Dood mentioned he had gone down this route with great success, I gave it ago. It's been a long road but so far the results have been great. Along with my Chiropractor I have produced the following article for my website & blog which addresses a few things that musicians can look out for etc. As there have been a large increase in posts around BC with people asking for advice on what to do with aches and pains etc. I though a few people may find this interesting. Granted Chrio' is not for everyone but maybe some of the advice etc. will help... Shep on Bass - Ooooohhh my back! Shep
That Stache does sound massive.
The Mids control just makes it a monster. That was with the mids on about 3 quarters. It's about twice as massive sounding as my Mastotron which until today I considered the most massive sounding fuzz I'd owned. -
Reverse delay?
This. Very short reverse delay setting with a low volume. I use an almost identical setting on a track we play. It's very subtle and is hardly hear until you stop playing and as it's pretty much a single repeat it sounds as though the note is being 'sucked' back.
HEY SHEP! How are you finding your custom Stache?
I'm at rehearsal so apologies for the awful iPhone recording and YouTube upload. It's likely this will sound and look like a bag of cack - but hopefully you'll get a good idea. It's immense!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8yQnnd5ATo&feature=youtube_gdata_player -
Quality and precision is the key. They consider fret positioning to be vital to the tiniest measurement. They are set up for 34 & 35" scales and don't do hand slotting. It'll be sorted soon I'm sure. What's important is that they are not prepared to compromise on quality for the sale of getting it done.

The new guys that confirmed they could do the custom slotting have now elaborated to say that will do it, but only if they use their own woods to create the neck and fretboard - effectively they will build but not slot someone else's board. Back to the drawing board.
Some pictures of my SKB 5006
Very nice! Has a very Yammy-TRB vibe going on... maybe the inlays that are doing that...

Just a heads up that we are playing a show in Nottingham next Friday (11th May) at The Jam Cafe, Hockley. It'll be a bit of a different show for us, being that we are used to playing shows with big bass bins to drive my sub etc... The Jam Cafe is just that - A little cafe, better known for singer song writers and similar. We are playing with a couple of very cool HipHop/Funk acts (Great Scott & The Afterdark Movement) so hopefully it'll go down well. We'll call it an 'intimate' show with Our Helical Mind :-) Facebook event page Shep

As the title suggest... I have some straight George L's plugs an require some more right angles. I know the right angles are the more commonly used, but there are places in which the straights are far more suitable. Anyone need any? I may sell a few also... If you have any right angle ones to sell I may also consider buying Shep
Now I'm wishing I would have nabbed that Freqbox when I had the chance. A couple of years ago a local shop was selling a brand new one, in the box for £165! You may slap me now!
SLAP!
I love the feel on the first sample. First two are around the same song idea? It's great how far your music has come, definitely much more polished and developed than when you first started.
They are all around the same piece of music actually. It's a 3-part movement in ambient D&B - The whole piece was about 20 minutes. 3 moods to the same 'idea' to represent 3 sections of a film etc... The final finished pieces may be being used for some soundtracks... otherwise they will be polished & used on the next EP/Single. Thanks for the compliments guys... These were done in a different manner to who we usually record. basically done as if it was a gig, facing each other performing single takes. I'm very happy with the results so far. It was also an experiment to see how 'full' I can make the sound without any sound-on-sound looping or it becoming a total uncontrollable mess.
AHhhhhh that looks so good. I REAAALLLLY want a Rat Tail but I just can't afford importing one brand new.
International shipping is $38. I wasn't charged anything for duty/tax etc. which surprised me as Parcel Force delivered it and they usually stamp a stupid handling fee on even if they fee without is £1. -

Thought I'd share a few snippets from a recent recording session we did for some soundtrack-based stuff. The full versions of these song may never get released, but I wanted to share a few bits. More of a breakbeat/ambient vibe. These are not final mixes so please excuse any imbalances or lacking frequencies etc... These were all recorded in totally live takes with just the two of us (me and a drummer) so everything you hear that is not a drum is me playing, modulating & tweaking stuff live...
