1.
Ha ha ha ha, check out http://kitchenchannel.org/pedal/ .
Quite scary how many Sonic Kitchen pedals have snuck in there! Among the blenders
 2. Al, do you have a website etc showing off your stuff? Or just this thread...
 3.
I'm going off my own topic here, but what about tracking, did you find one better than the other on that?
Not in my experience. Analogue octaves all seem to do the same thing... A passive output (or active with the volume rolled back) seems to perform better... Usually rules apply (ply higher up the neck/single notes only etc).
 4. THIS IS NOW SOLD! This is a rather rare bit of fancy audio gear. It was designed for DJ's to take an incoming audio signal and convert it into midi clock to allow them to sync midi gear to records they are playing. It can accept 2 audio signals and figure out the BPM's of each, and you can pop between the 2 tempos as you see fit. I actually used this without any form of input and just dialled in the tempo (goes from about 90 to 180ish BPM) to control my midi gear at the tempo I wanted. Has a tap tempo button as well. Basically this was the best solution I had before me and my drummer got sync'd up to a metronome/drum machine with midi. This is the limited edition chrome version (which was a crazy £50 more expensive at RRP), though other than being shiny that doesn't change anything! When these were released in 97' they were £250 (£300 for the chrome one!?) and as such there is one of these on eBay at the mo asking £100 - given its old now I think that is a little over the top.[s] I'd like close to what I paid for it about a year ago, so £55 posted in the UK. Pick it up from Nottingham and I'll call it £50.[/s] SOLD It's in pretty good condition given its 12 or so years old but has a few light marks. Has the original power supply and a print out of the manual (which it came with). No box. Links to info online about it... Review from Sound on Sound magazine - http://www.soundonso...es/redbeat.html Manual from the manufacturer - http://www.redsound....01%20manual.pdf Would consider trade with a Diago Showman pedalboard, or other board of that size. Shep
 5. I tried the flat wounds thing with both active and passive and found it to make no difference at all with regards to octave tracking. To be fair it's the tracking that has changed with the passive anyway, it's the tonal change - a hotter input seems to choke the output a little. Id still happily use an active. The difference isn't life changing, but noticable enough to be worth having the option. Plus I can't stand the sound or feel of flats - as such flats are considered an all round fail in my book lol
 6. Not too sure in the clipping options... The spec was - make it as massively high gain as possible but that doesn't squeal and whine when I don't play... PN-2 is awesomeness!!
 7.
Just saw this thread and read the interview with Ry - good work sir, i'm looking forward to the next pedal builder features. If anybody is remotely curious about Ry's pedals after reading this, i REALLY recommended checking them out. My grey stache is just awesome, definitely my fave pedal
Thanks bud! There are another 3 builder' interviews in the pipeline at the mo and it's something I intend to focus more one after these are done and published. Ry's stuff is cool. I also have a Grey Stache on the way (With clipping options and an 'always-on' gate to eliminate feedback)...
 8. Useful for pedalboards and not something I've seen before - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boss-Diago-Gigrig-Pedaltrain-pedalboard-Pedal-Saver-/110860591294?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item19cfce60be#ht_1386wt_1183 Replaces the bottom of a boss pedal with a flat surface. Come in packs of 3...
 9. I used to own the MXR and I really liked it... It was quite 'rocky' and aggressive though which didn't work for me in the music I was playing. It's certainly a pedal I'd recommend though. The Aguilar is smoother and synthier - the closed to the OC2 I have used. It's filter is unique, allowing you to use it for sub-like tones rather than a full range sound as well. I like it as it performs a specific task for me - sub under my main sound. Both are great but voiced VERY differently. As the MXR has access to much more mid growl though it does sound pretty badass with a good overdrive or fuzz after it!
 10.
Looking forward to the next ones!
Soon...
 11.
I've been telling you that for ages Active basses are balls, un-neccesary EQ, no dynamics, choke effects.... passive FTW Si
I won't go that far... and where clean bass is concerned Passives sound very lacking to me - as the one I am currently playing does - but through my Octaves yay. My Moog Freqbox prefers it too... none of the other effects react differently, just the analogue octavers and the Freqbox.
 12. OC-2 or Aguilar Octamizer into a Mastotron is my recipe of choice. Yum.
 13.
What we've learned here is 'Wanna use pedals.....get a passive bass' Si
I have just changed the spec of my new Roscoe to include an active/passive switch. I'm currently borrowing a bag of bolts OLP Stingray copy - my octave pedals never sounded so big!!
 14. Cool! Glad you like. I'll give you the Taylor one. It's in the pipeline. The rest are a secret
 15.
I need to watch these. Can you reveal hints of folk?
Watch? There are YouTube bids etc included but they are written articles... This would imply you have not yet read the 2 I have published and that means you are of my Christmas card list!!! ;-) lol. Hints... Er.... Maybe...
 16.
great stuff, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing on that German bass forum! The statistics on my site told me I suddenly got a load of hits from a web server I'd never seen before so I went for a look. I recognised the profile pic!
 17.
I got my pedalboard/case from Spider Engineering (I think they're known as Flightcase Warehouse). They make flightcases to your size, so if you wanted to go the same style of route where teh board is part of the lid (rather than a wedge that you lift out) then might be worth checking them out. Here's the webby. They do quite a lot of other useful stuff too.
Cheers dude. I had a Spider Engineering board a while back. Unfortunately it took 3 gigs for some rivets to drop out and fall apart . On the flip side a friend of mine bought a custom sized board from FC Warehouse years ago and it's been through more airport baggage handlers than you'd believe and still looks new! I Think I was unlucky.
 18. blitz (Dermot) is a fairly new member here, but having just bought a Korg Pitchblack off me has proven himself trustworthy, friendly and all-round basschat-like! Cheers dude Shep
 19.
That's pretty damn close to John Davis' board if I remember correctly? I don't think you could get away with much less than that, unless if you tried something like what Fattybassman does with his M9? Just a thought.
Not dissimilar to JD's board, though he now uses an M9 as well to cover all modulation (so in place of my Cluster Flux). I don't want to buy any more pedals to make this work. I just had a little clear out and am hoping to replace my LPF with the Xero as long as the custom specs work out.... I have an order in for a new dirt pedal from FUZZROCIOUS as well to fill the space where my 'fuzz' was sitting. Pedals are now strictly one out, one in... so nothing new for the mini board.
 20. Lol... A Mastotron will be on the board, but I am to add a second to my big board (so one can be in the sub channel for that spiky Prodigy-Esque sub stone) which will replace the Boss EQ pedal. That will be easy to get to. Current plans dictate that the top tier will not need to be removed in swapping the pedals... Current idea is MP-201 (which takes up 11x11"!) Moog Cluster Flux Moog LPF OR Xero depending on what I have TC Nova Delay Boss OC2 Mastotron WMD Geiger Counter I may drop the Delay as I'll be doing less soundscape stuff and more fat low end and wubwub'ing...
 21.
Was that why you were looking into the Xenograph?
Actually no... but it will help. Main reason for the Xero is as amazing as the Moog sounds, it's noise floor is not brill. In my old set up it was fine but at the end of my extreme set up its a a bit too noisy for my liking... My fault for having a million pedals before it! I won't take the beat to bit. just surgically remove a few units from it. All cabling and powering will stay in place and I'll look to have separate powering etc on the little board (eventually!) and I'll just move a few units back and forth as needed. Looking at sizes online the Diago Showman looks to be the most sensible one for me. I think I'll start planning the layout around those dimensions and see how I get on...
 22. I've been set a summer challenge - to create a smaller pedalboard, using the effects I have, but that will easily go in the back of a car/on a seat/be carried etc with the aim of doing a few shows on the fly (turn up with a mini kit, bass and board and use other folks gear)... Slimming down the pedals will be HARD given the diversity I am used to but I think I have a good idea of which pedals would make up this mini board. Question is - which board to get? Needs to be tough still so softcase/gig bags ones are out... The Diago Showman is an option but I recall it not being as tall as the Tourman and struggling with some expression pedals etc? (Maybe the owner of one can clarify?) This will only be for a few shows, open mics and backing MC's, rather than performing out regular shows... Shep
 23.
Yeah that will be the low impedance at the input - the Wooly Mammoth does the same thing, sounds thin and nasal with actives.
The non-oscillating side of the pedal is fine with Actives (mine was anyway). The one I had was a VERY early model (number 21 is think) so I don't know if the current circuit is changed in anyway.
 24. I used to have an ABSynth and I miss it a lot. It works with an Active bass but in the Oscilation mode it will only react as the builder intense if you roll your volume off on the bass a little. Too hot an input overloads the pedal an while it makes noise still it is thinner and, lo-fi and actually drops in volume. Still a usable sound - but not the intended one!
