1. It looks pretty close to me dude!! In other news... A new blog post, this one on powering pedals and pedal boards. Intension was to answer all the common questions that crop up on forums... 2.
Shep thats a badass board - I would not know where to start! My ever growing board for the Tool tribute band........not much missing now - the latest addition the GT-2 is just an amazing pedal, the bottom end it retains is fantastic!
Pretty damn impressive yourself dude!
3. Lol - thanks mate. It's going to be hard to test as the regular one isn't CV compatible - where as the one I would have built will be done to exploit some parts of th MP-201 but I'm hoping I can get a good idea of the tone. Si - BTW, thanks for coming to our gig last week. Was cool to see ya'
4. Took a decent camera to the studio today so I though I'd take some snaps that look a little sharper than those off my iPhone (on the last page or so). Before anyone says it - yes, I know the Polytune Mini is upside down! 5. I can't really tell how the ly differ in sound - which is the reason I want to try one myself. LPF's are largely dependant on what you put through them and so I'm reluctant to trust YouTube vids. From the vids I've seen I'd say the IE one sounds thinner and the resonance is a little wetter - though I've heard the opposite from users. I think it's largely dependant on the rest of your setup so I want to be sure before I make the move. At the moment the Moog LPF is a massive part of 'my' sound...
6. They are a small company - but known enough that I'd expect 'some' level of service. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt - they could be a 1 man company, he may be away for a couple of days and his automated emails may of gone funny - stranger things have happened. I'd wait until after Easter and message again. Have a look on Talkbass too incase anyone knows the builder or is affiliated with them.
7. Have you emailed them? I'd suggest just dropping them an email to say that as you have not received any order confirmation you would like them to confirm the order was relieved OK etc...
8. Yeah - I'm trying to achieve a few things at the mo and the fact that Taylor can do a huge range of custom modifications makes one a potential replacement for my Moog LPF... Tonally it's clear they are very different different to the Moog though and I really need to hear it with my set up - you just can't get a grasp of that sub tone from a video.
9. I'm sure there are a few floating around. I have been discussing a custom version to try and achieve a few different things compared to my beloved Moog Low Pass Filter - before going ahead though I would love to check the tone of the resonant swells out with my set up and effects without having to buy a basic model and pay shipping both ways from the USA. If anyone has one that I could borrow for 24 hours to try it with my stuff I would really appreciate it. Obviously happy to pay for postage etc... Let me know Shep
10. I have recieved a set of Minera fitted MusicPlugs today. Just the ear plugs, not the IEM... The service has been amazing and the moulding of the ears was.... Fun! I'll report back on quality when I've had chance to really try them out!
11.
Thanks Shep - and all the other contributors, that's very helpful (maybe worth a sticky?).
I'm actually working on something at the moment along these lines - which goes into much more detail as well - without going too advanced which should cover most aspects of powering (voltage, current draw, isolations, upscaling power, polarity and a list of good supplies up for the job) which I hope to have finihsed by the end of the weekend and publish on my blog. I'll post a link here when it's done and if everyone finds it covers all the needed questions I'll sticky it at the top of the forum... then as and when any questions come up that were not answered we can add to it...
12.
You also might need to rethink the OC-2 if it is an older Japanese pedal. They much prefer being daisy chained from another Boss pedal (like the TU-2 or LS-2) due to it needing the older ACA power supply. I don't know if the Pitch Black would work in the same way?! Si
I never experienced this with my Jap OC-2 (I had a Jap one, and one form the very last run and they both performed and were powered identically).
13. I'm late to this one. Prime has summarised the headroom issue quite well which I think is important. The Diago PowerStation is a GREAT power supply and I used one for quite some time. Saying it will power 14 or 20 or x number of pedals is pointless though. The Diago will power 100 pedals if they only have a draw of 30mah each, but it will only power 3 pedals if they have a draw of 1000mah like the TC Nova pedals... It's a case of getting whats right for you - and make sure you include headroom. Once you hit the 50% of capacity for a supply it 'can' start to get warm and introduce noise to the system. Power surges, little peaks in the pedals performance etc etc can 'spike' in power usage unless they are advanced units with lots of regulating technology built in. My diago started to get very hot when I was using about 1600-1700mah of power and started to buzz when I hit 2200mah. I have no doubt that it would still power stuff upto 3000mah but at a compromise - One which I was not prepared to swallow. This is not an issue with the Diago specifically, rather with power supplies in general. Also worth noting that a friend uses a Diago and we added up his set up to be hitting about 2300mah ish and while it gets warm it does not hum - as such the pedals used make a huge difference. As everyones set up is different, you never know until it's put together. The GigRig Generator is expensive but you do get what you pay for - It has 5000mah of juice and runs cool and silent even with the load I throw at it. I agree it may be overkill for many peoples set ups - but so is a custom bass costing £1500-2000 when a Squire P-Bass will still do the job. It's about a balance of performance and what you value as important. I would happily pay the price of an expensive effects pedal in order to get the best out of my collection of very expensive pedals. Many people see power supplies/patch cables etc as annoyingly expensive add ons, I see them as being as important as the pedals themselves. As for the adapters to upscale voltages/isolate supplies/change polarity etc - they are all interchangeable and GigRig adapters will work with the Diago and visa versa. The only thing I would add to this is that the high voltage/current adapters from GigRig will happily work, though I'd be concerned about them making the Diago or other supplies run out of juice (they have been decided in mind that the generator has a whole 5amps to play with!). Shep
14.
I had a thought about yours. You attach some wheels and see if you can skate on it
It'd steer like a Volvo though
15. ... An even the largest is tiny by mine...
16.
A great source of info. Cheers Shep.
Thanks dude - The 'Signal Chain BASSics' series seem to be going down well…
17. Wicked night. Ram packed! Big thanks to Phil.I.Stein for showing up (and wearing an OHM T-Shirt!). Some video footage coming soon - though the amount of sub has made it somewhat hard to capture.
18. I'm getting pretty good at solving issues and fixing them with one hand and playing with hammer-on's with the other... This happened last night Not sure about cabling... 15-20m at a guess...
19. Colin bought my Pedaltrain Mini today. Friendly chap with some cool toys - and he plays a Bass Banjo. What more could you want! Cheers bud! Shep
20.
Totally agree there. The 9 just seems to be able to take it and push it right out. Never had that with a amp before. Cracking little amp.
Totally. Last night was a LOUD gig and the amp was being run at about 2 or 2:30. The sound man wanted more sub from my DI so the EQ pedal on my 'sub channel' on my pedalboard was boosting about 8-10db of 50Hz before the Soundman was happy (we are a Drum & Bass act after all). I saw the clip light come on once (and I knew I'd dug in too hard before I saw it go). Thats the one and only time I've ever managed to clip the amp in anyway...
21.
And I am finding my STM600 (the alleged baby brother) to be great also. I think unless you need a massive amount of low end/headroom (like Shep does) I cannot see an occasion where the cheaper 600 would not be more than loud enough. I am using mine into a Vanderkley 112 8 ohm cab, and it is more than loud enough. Honestly into a 4 ohm load, the 600 would be more than enough for almost anyone I would think. So, don't overlook the cheaper one, it is the same in all other respects.
I totally agree with this. The 600 is by no means 'under powered'. It's volume - power seems to be very high and I can't imagine many bassist not getting what they need out one. A lovely lovely amp. Looking forward to trying out your little rig soon too Chris.
22.

Awesome looking set up dude - Some great custom units there! Very ergonomic. I've just finished trying to document my exact signal chain as well... didn't realise it would be such a ball ache to write out: Signal Chain
