Beautiful ergonomics Shep. As I said on TB, let me know if you need a loan of the Nova Dynamics if the repair runs late.
Just replied on TB - top man! -
Does anyone know what the Quartermaster from the Gigrig actually does? I keep getting updates about it on Facebook and as far as I can tell it just turns your pedals on and off! If you could set up presets of a number of pedals at a time then it would be great but you can't do that. Maybe I have missed something with it?
It's a bypass looper - but it has the GigRig buffered bypass system in it for super silent switching and soft press switches - so the signal does not pass through 3pdt switches, rather through a VERY high quality buffer. It's the same switching as used on the expensive Pro/Midi 8/14 units (which you would need for your multiple presets). It can be personalised by swapping certain inputs to have special features as detailed on the GigRig site as well. Basically a super high quality bypass looper. As for pedalboards... A couple of slight updates. Nova Delay now a major part of the board. The space above it now also sits a Nova Dynamics (though it's not in the pic). I've also raised the 8-way looper (a I kept catching the EP-2 rather than the Tremolo!) and also raised my Moog Low Pass Filter as seen below to raise the footswitch a little higher over the MP-201 expression pedal when it's in heel position - oddly it looks pretty cool as well! Bought Bens Tascam interface. Easy transaction, good communication - Very happy! Thanks bud Shep

Tunes low A no problem. A flat with a gentle pluck and good string muting for everything else. Seems inaccurate lower than that.

Tried it. It sucks. Nothing like the Mastotron. Subs on 3 for the Distortron is less than subs on 2 for the Mastotron. I was pretty excited about it, but IMO its not great for bass.

New blog post! Shep On Bass - Signal Chain BASSics, Part IV: Filters. Stuff you all already know... But thought I'd link anyway -
Thanks bud - its just one mans opinion mixed with a range of facts - but I hope some people can take away a few pointers and better still I hope those pointers will work out for them! Just make sure you try every possible combination before settling on one.
-
Read my blog on signal chain basics (link in signature) - shameless plug. Start at part one and you'll just in time for me to publish part 4 tomorrow

Hey bud, no worries - You'll likely have to wait until Tuesday evening though as I'm not planning on being at the studio until then (unplugging for a few days so to speak)...
-
My TD650 had the same issue and I also solved it by reconnecting some internal plugs! Obviously a small flaw in the design!
-
I only ever used the original as a chromatic tuner anyway. I bought it as I preferred the display to all the others on the market - so I got the mini for the same purpose an the display is still very clear. The large one has been demoted to home/practice/back up an the mini is now on my board.
-
Yeah this is a stripped down version of the big brother in terms if size, features and price. It tunes poly for guitar and chromatic for both with most basic detunings programmed. That said mine tunes E,A,D,G in poly perfectly (though not my B or C) even though they say it shouldn't! No USB on the mini either so no future updates would be possible.

Playing around today with some sounds etc and giving my new Nova Delay a run for it's money... (iPhone footage/audio so not great). All improvised on the spot so bad timing and duff notes all round. -
I think I'll just order one from the above mentioned site, as long as "free shipping" as it says really means free shipping. ..Oh wait, it's free shipping to the UK. :damn: Erm, yes, I would appreciate you asking for me.
TC Say they are shipping as we speak to be in stores for sale before the end of the month!
I'm looking at you, Shep.
I'll ask - I'm sure US retailers have a date now though.

Thinking about the Seas of cheese dates - Apparently one night is a 'Best of' set, the other night is Sailing the seas of Cheese & the new album start to finish (Both nights will be 2 sets with a break apparently!?).
Ringmod just sounds like (to use a British expression) buggered-up tremolo to me.
Lol. On its lower frequency settings I tend to agree! -

I think the issue comes from the use of onomatopoeic words like 'wooshing', 'swooshing', 'watery' which are perceived differently by everyone and create expectations in the sound being described - this is a point I think I'll raise on the blog comments actually. I (and by that I mean my mind and ears) consider the resonant sounds of a flanger to be the most 'watery' of the effects, followed by chorus which I perceive to be a little more 'dark and brooding'. To me the resonance of a phaser is a little more sci-fi and space age rather than watery. This is why listening references are better than words! Surely everyone can agree that ring modulation can sound like the Transformers though, yeah? -

I guess it's important to point out that they are all capable of achieving deep sounds, or fast sounds etc - a flanger could be used for slow deep whooshing and so your point (lxxwj) is correct. My post pays reference to the 'typical' sounds associated with the effects in order to let the less educated reader get a good overview to the effects application. Your typical flanger will have its 'middle' settings of speed much faster and more resonant that that of a chorus pedal. And a phasers default settings will typically be slow swooshing sounds - not that they are not capable of doing more besides. -
Always thought that flanger was the whooshing, airplane-like sound.. Phasers are more watery, for sure. Chorus is just your sound mixed with the detuned sound but can also have a watery effect as well as the usual "not in tune" wobble-y noise.
Phasers become 'watery' only when they have controllable resonance (like most modern phasers) and said control is turned up. With little resonance they are quite dry sounding. Chorus is not strictly 'detuned', just out of phase, though the audible effect is much the same. As for flangers - i would certainly not describe them as whoosing, rather fast and highly resonant compared to a chorus effect - though the process of creating the effect is very similar. http://youtu.be/z5P_p7NCjv4
