pantherairsoft replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
New blog post! This time: Modulation & LFO's... Shep on Bass: Signal Chain Basics, Part III: Modulation. The original intention was to cover filter-based effects as well but due to the size of the post filters will be covered in a post of their own... Enjoy. Comment on the blog with any feedback, additions or insults Shep -
Pimp My Board - Awesome idea.
I should get in on this really shouldn't I lol Si
I'm going to need a week!! lol
Well, Shep - will look forward to that: will it just be on BC or will The Daily Mail be running it too?! Re. deleted posts - I'm pretty sure (as of my name, Alan Z. Eimer) that all mine are removal of unsightly (i.e. repeated) BUMP's or general pruning (as I've just said, I am Alan 'Tits' Marsh) of old/closed threads; but would, of course, appreciate a PM if I've forgotten something potentially incriminating...........
Lol... Nothing incriminating... just bumps - though you got me hunting now :-) Anyway, back on track - Lovely bass.

Cool - Just let me know!

I edit my last post before you replied - sorry about that. Day/weekend trip to Notts is the answer!
The others seem to have x amount per output. The gigrig seems to share. Think i might order after payday. Shep - dont suppose you fancy another board to feng shui up? heh
Course! Thats my idea of heaven. Get all the components together, get to Nottingham early one weekend and we'll nail it in a day. I have all the tools, tape, cable ties, clippers, cable testers etc etc. Even know a local market store than can get the super industrial velcro that you need to use a crowbar to wrench the pedals off the board. Hot Rox is almost next door as well if you run out of George L's!
-
Loads of options. GigRig has the benefit of being so powerful that it will always have room to grow. You're kind of future proofing your power system if you end up with a massive board. At the end of day, you just need whatever works for you bud!
Hah yeah! Std base 2 thing. Except the dha... Which needs 3(!) supernova's in paralell. Think i'll get another supply for that. Power for all (bar dha) - 160 quid Power for all (inc dha) - like 300 odd! :|
Ouch. Yeah some pedals are a bit of a bummer like that. The adapter would be a monster as well - bigger than some pedals! lol
thanks, thought as much. It was already discontinued when I was looking so not too frustrated. Amazing sounding bit of kit. if i look to upgrade I will go for one.
Yeah. I'm really impressed with it. Id never found a compressor aside the onboard ones in EBS amps and the Multicomp that I liked for subtle stuff and I'd never heard a noise gate that didn't kill my low end and my sub stuff. Lovely bit of kit. -

Best bit of kit ever. The noise gate is the best I have ever used without a doubt outside of a super expensive studio rack and the compressor is totally transparent. I'm blown away buy how it really does not effect tone at all. Even my sub. I use very subtle compression in 3 band studio mode, just to keep the ear splitting highs in check and it's perfect. In the single band mode I get a little click if its set to 100% wet. As soon you you mix in any dry (which you will pretty much always do when you play a stringed instrument that heavily relies on the attack of the string) then I don't hear it at all. I doubt I'll ever use the squashy single band stomp mode anyway... That noise gate needs an award. Bad part is that its discontinued now and TC have none left to ship. Shep. -
'kinell, your board weighs more than my tube amp!
Weighs more than my amp, cab and bass together. Weighs more than our drum kit inc. hardware! -
Do GigRig do any adapters for AC pedals? I couldnt see anything on their site for it so im gonna guess not. I hate the power supply for my Line 6 M9 but havnt found anything else that can power it.
They did make the Whambo which powered the AC Whammy IV (and other pedals with that requirement). It was withdrawn though, I believe this was because one of the manufacturers went bust/was effected by natural disaster in Japan. Dan would need to confirm this but I did have a Whambo at one time and wanted it modding slightly and they were unable to do it due to issues getting components from Japan. I would expect the AC based support will return in the future though.
Dude your board must weigh a ton. Team lift?
Not been officially weighed but its circa 50-55KG at an estimate. Strictly a 2-man lift - unless you are mcgraham who decides to play super man when he helped out at a gig - and nearly broke his back in the process! -
That's exactly the sort of thing I mean !! .. don't suppose we can add a 'name-and-shame' section ?!
You know as a mod I can still see all your deleted posts! :-) You really wanted a reply to this one... lol ;0 I'm saving up the name and shames as ammunition for when it's really needed! lol

Few small tweaks to the board. Need to sort this properly still but layout changes look like this - TC corner... -
In all honesty - I've never used it. It buzzed and hummed like a bitch. Kinda just ignored it. If it worked for a light distortion I'd be very happy!
My money would be on the power supply not giving it what it wants! You heard from Dan?
well it's 500mA - but the site says to use the 1200mA. http://www.davehalla....uk/page29.html I think all centre negative except the DHA.
That'll be fine mate - looking at the pedals left over there is nothing horrid so I'd bang that on an email to dan. My Prediction. 1 Generator 2 Distributors 1 SupaNova (for DHA) 1 Reverse Polarity adapter (for DHA) The SupaNova may be swapped for something else depending on how the DHA take to the power consumption.
-
1200mA for the DHA - really!!!!? I imagine all the others will be very low draw and wouldn't worry about them too much. Nothing digital and demanding there. Does everything work on centre negative supplies? Source Audio BEF is 145mA max according to the manual.
-
Always worth a (worthy) try (I'm sure you too will have experienced some less worthy/sensible trade offers ... although they can be amusing). And thanks (again) for another BUMP ...
I've had some amazing offers on it. Best one yet was a Yammy RBX and 'a few quid' to balance out the deal...
-
Yeah. It's worth noting, that like an amp, a power supply likes headroom! Yes they will 'work' up to the listed rating, but once you pass the halfway mark of a power supplies draw then you may find it gets noisey, hot etc and generally does not perform well. Beauty of the Generator is that it's so damn powerful you can power a silly board like mine and still not really tip the 50% of power/draw rating. Makes a MASSIVE difference. Most of the stuff on that list should be easy to find. Gimme a shout of you get stuck on any of em'.
-
Ta Da! The Generator will work a treat. Pretty much everything is 9v. The DHA might be 12v but the SupaNova adapter will take care of that. The high draw stuff may need some tweaking so you need to do the following. Rewrite your list above and confirm and voltages you are unsure about. List the polarity of each pedal. Add the draw (mA) next to each pedal is you can - particularly any high draw units (say 250mA +). Email it to Dan @ GigRig. He will work out if any special adapters are needed. When you get the stuff. If anything doesn't play ball, let Dan know and he'll tweak/adjust/modify adapters for you as you go (some pedals react odd in chains even when on paper they are fine!) until its perfect. I would think you'll just need an adapter for the DHA plus the cheap polarity changers for each pedal that centre positive (if any are), though if any have a huge draw then something may be needed (Deep impacts draw?). Email Dan and he'll tell you exactly what you need. Wicked product and even better service & after care.
